Issue 5
Autumn Term
13th October 2023
Message from Mrs Conrad It was wonderful to welcome so many of you to our Harvest Festivals having made it through the terrible weather and roadworks! The girls delighted us with a selection of thought-provoking songs, poems, dramatic performances and even a barn dance (!) that celebrated the beauty of God’s creation. We were reminded that we are stewards of our planet, who must look after our common home and that even little changes we undertake can make a big difference. Well done to everyone involved and special thanks to Mrs Gibson and Mrs Harris for all their hard work in preparing the girls for these special events. May I also take this opportunity to thank you for your incredible generosity in donating items for Dorking foodbank; I know these will be greatly appreciated by many local families in need.

Their task was to include a range of marks which vary in tone. They applied this criteria to create some sensitively-drawn albatross and seals.
Year 3—Art Club In Year 3 art club, the girls have been exploring pattern and colour and have created these wonderful landscapes.
Year 5—Story Telling Trip On Tuesday, Year 5 were invited to Cranleigh Prep School to listen to Danyah Miller, a professional storyteller. She retold Michael Morpurgo's moving story, 'I Believe in Unicorns' and the children were transfixed throughout - as were the adults. Danyah weaved magic and illusions into her storytelling as well as involving the audience. It was a truly memorable afternoon, which concluded with a special unicorn biscuit for everyone and the gift of three copies of the book for our library and classrooms.
Sports News Netball On Friday, the U8 netball teams played their first match of the season against St Catherine’s. The U8A team had a great match and drew 1-1! Well done girls. The B team achieved a well deserved 1-0 win. A big well done to Olivia for scoring the winning goal and Laila for being awarded player of the match. The U8C team displayed excellent team work and improved their match play tremendously in this very evenly matched game. Well done to Isabelle C for being chosen as player of the match. The U8D team demonstrated their robust knowledge of positions throughout, resulting in them finishing the game with a 1-1 draw.
Hockey The U10C and D took on Feltonfleet on Saturday morning. The weather was lovely and the girls were in good spirits. The U10D's worked hard and never gave up. They weren’t able to secure a win, but the girls had a blast and learnt so much. Player of the match went to Isabella. The U10C team had a great time on the pitch and had a competitive first half performance. They played hard and fair, but unfortunately did not come out on top this time. Amelie was awarded a well earnt player of the match. Well done girls!
Swimming The girls had their first swimming competition of the year against Wimbledon High School. The fixture involved over 100 girls competing which is an astonishing feat. As you can imagine the noise was incredible from start to finish with every race being hotly contested. The standout performances came from the U8C team who managed to come away with a victory. It was great to see so many of the girls competing in the pool and we look forward to the next competition.
Hockey The U11ABCD took on CLFS in a home and away fixture. The U11As had a great game and won 7-2. We are super proud of them and really excited about this team. The U11 B side contested a very tight game against City of London Freeman’s and, unfortunately, narrowly missed out on a draw. Sophia N put on a masterclass in goal to receive a well earnt player of the match award. The U11C team showed great energy and enthusiasm. They won 3-0 and the player of the match was Lily. The Ds took part in an end to end match and were unlucky to come out without a result this time. Player of the match was Bella.
Netball Shooting Club Please encourage your daughter to come to netball shooting club on a Tuesday lunchtime.

This Week It was a joy for us this week to celebrate our Harvest Festival Services. These were a fantastic opportunity for us to give thanks, at this traditional time of the year, for the grace of God’s goodness to us by providing us with abundant food. We so often take this for granted, so it was good to stop, recognise all that we have, and to give thanks! Of course, we also recognise that the abundance that we have is not always shared with the world around us. During our Services we had the opportunity to pray for those who do not have enough to eat and to reflect on the reasons, particularly greed and climate change, that mean that so many in our world do not have enough to eat. It was then a joy to turn our thanksgiving and our concern into action with our food bank collection. We were overwhelmed with the huge generosity and we know that the donations that have been made will make a huge difference to those within our local communities who, through no fault of their own and often due to the current cost of living crisis, are unable to provide the basics for their families. A huge ‘thank you’ for your great generosity! All the items received will be delivered to the Dorking Food Bank where, we know they will be very gratefully received! Thank you

We hope that you have had a good week. Both Mr T and Cookie are now in the barn with all the other ponies and have passed their license! This means that they can be used in lessons, and they will be slowly introduced to riding lessons during the term and in the holidays. As the weather has been very unpredictable in recent weeks, please can you make sure your child comes dressed appropriately to their lessons. Please pack a jumper and waterproof coat. Hoodies should not be worn, and if they are we will ask to tuck the hoods in before being around the horses. And If your child cannot attend one of their lessons, then please let the office know by phone or by email, or the lesson can be cancelled on the booking site. As if you wish to cancel a lesson, we do require 48hrs notice or more in order to offer credit.
Topic of the week: Show Jumping There are so many disciplines in horse riding, one of them is show jumping. It was first introduced to the Olympics in the 1900s in France, and quickly became more and more popular. There are different types of show jumping and one of them is ‘Chase me Charlie’. You have to jump clear (which means no refusals, faults or knocking poles down) as the jump gets progressively higher, and the one who jumps the highest clear wins.
Fun fact! Huaso the horse jumped 2.47 metres, which is the highest jump ever recorded. ~ Libby C
NSEA News We wish the team and individuals the best of luck at their next competition!
