8th February 2021 18th June 2021

Message from Mrs Conrad This week, we have celebrated our annual Values Week across both the Prep and Senior schools with the focus being, very appropriately, on Compassion. The girls have been involved in assemblies, art projects and online activities which have helped them to reflect on the importance of compassionate love – showing empathy and walking alongside others in their suffering or sadness. As always, we have been hugely impressed by the love and care our girls have demonstrated for our local and global communities and the determination they have to make a difference to the world. Thank you to everyone for being so understanding about the last minute changes we have had to make this week to end of year events. Between the DfE and the weather (!), we have been kept on our toes to come up with solutions to making the end of term as normal as possible and ensure the girls don’t miss out on key school events. I hope I will be able to see many of you face to face at our rescheduled sports day in the last week of term. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the sun will shine!

Great Work! Poetry Competition The Year 6 Poetry Club each wrote a very different entry for the CISC (Catholic Independent Schools’ Conference) Poetry Competition which had the theme 'Uncertainty and Opportunity'. All three poems were creative, original and deserve recognition, however, Cáitlin W's poem achieved the runner up prize. The judge, Nick Perry, a writer who has recently written extensively for Radio 4 drama, said of Caitlin’s poem: 'A well-constructed poem with an effective use of repetition that builds to a liberating conclusion.' Congratulations to Cáitlin, and we hope you enjoy reading all three entries.

Eco and Gardening Club During Eco and Gardening Club this week the girls watered and weeded all the raised beds. They had to take care to pick the correct plants but they were very careful and efficient! The girls also planted two tomato plants from Mrs Bishop’s garden into the raised beds. On top of this, they watered the miniature gardens where some of the grass seed has germinated. Next week we are looking forward to visiting the pond onsite.

Year 2—Collages Year 2 made some beautiful prayerful collages as part of values week this week.

Year 5 Time Traveler Topic Year 5s Time Traveler topic led them to explore the art of the surrealist Salvador Dali. Taking inspiration from his painting ‘The persistence of Memory’, the girls were set the task of creating their own clock faces.

Year 1 Year 1 are in the thick of their 'Rio' topic now and are loving every minute! We have explored many different aspects of Brazil and have many more to go. This week's Art focus was all about Christ the Redeemer. The girls got to find out all about the famous statue that stands tall at the summit of Mount Corcovado, and they looked at lots of different pictures, studying its shape and detail. The girls then sculpted their own miniChrist the Redeemer statues out of clay!

Year 5 Art Club The girls in Year 5 Art Club have had great fun, designing, sewing and creating their own designs, using a variety of stitching.

Sports News Another busy week of fixtures and the sun stayed out for the majority of the week. Although we are all disappointed Sports Day could not go ahead, the girls and I are looking forward to showcasing their skills to you on Wednesday 30th June. PE star class of the week goes to 4RN for enthusiasm in lessons.

It was tough competition, with two of their opponents playing at county level. They kept their heads up high and showing good perseverance. Over half term, Miss Rippington competed in two races, the first was an obstacle course race and the second a kayak race. Welcome to iPrayONLINE

A key feature of Values Week each year has been iPray. This year, to overcome the challenges of COVID, we have devised iPrayOnline - a set of 9 virtual prayer spaces. There has been the option to light a virtual candle for someone who needs a prayer, make a virtual LOVE HEART to say ‘thank you’ to God for a loved one, ask God one of those knotty questions, complete some mindful colouring, play the Praise and Worship Jukebox and much more

Join In You can view all the activities by clicking here (Please note: you will need to access the file using your child’s Office 365 account to be able to complete the online surveys.) Alternatively, click here to Light a Candle, Make a LOVE HEART or ask a Question for God. We hope you enjoy the prayer activities as much as the girls have!

Not only did we have an incredible half term week with our Pony Days, but we said goodbye to Ellie as she set off to her new home on Friday 4th June. Arnie and Sky will also be leaving us at the end of the term to start their new chapters. We are on the lookout for horses to join STE and have a couple in the line up already. We also have three tickets going for a trip to the International Horse Show on Thursday 16th December 2021. Please contact the office to find out pricings if you are interested.
