Hockey

On Saturday 16th September, the U10 Hockey team had a tournament at Downsend. The girls played with determination and demonstrated excellent team spirit. They competed in 4 matches and finished the tournament in 4th place. Well done to Harlow who stepped up in goal for the first time and made some amazing saves and to Eva C for her well-deserved goals!

Well done to all the U11 hockey team who came 2nd in the Downsend tournament on Saturday. They battled until the final whistle and gave everything they had. The girls showed fantastic speed when attacking and defended solidly as a team when needed. A huge well done to Sophia N who stepped up as goalkeeper for the team and didn't let in a single goal!

Music News

Musicians of the Week

Year 3 - Isabelle C for beautiful singing while learning our Harvest songs

Year 4 - Electra B for excellent focus in our Toot lessons

Year 5 – Sybella J for wonderful singing and focus

Year 6 - Isla BH for being an amazing sound tech in Hymn Practice!

Toots!

We have been lucky enough to receive a class set of Toots! These are plastic flutes which have a removable lip plate so that the girls can make a sound immediately and later in the term, switch to a flute mouthpiece. They are just the right size for little fingers and have keys – which means no squeaking!

Year 4 are currently learning to play the Toot and really enjoying their lessons! So far, we can read and play B, A and G. Keep up the good work girls!

Message from Mrs Harris:

I would be very grateful if you could help your children to remember their instruments on the following days;

Monday – Y3 recorders, Orchestra, Assembly Band

Tuesday – Wind Ensemble

Wednesday – String Group

Friday – Guitar Ensemble, Assembly Band

This Week

It is unquestionably the case that we are all too often bombarded on social media by so called ‘affirmations’, with dubious provenance and, often, still more dubious content! As part of an occasional series in Chapel this year, we will be looking at key messages that scripture has for us, particularly in terms of our relationship with God.

This week we reflected on what type of relationship Jesus invites us into with His heavenly Father. He points out (John 15:16) to His disciples that instead of the Master - Servant relationship that they expected, He calls us into an intimate friendship. He explains that the very same close relationship that He has with His Father is precisely the same relationship that we are offered, if we choose to accept it. ‘I have chosen you and I call you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have learned from my Father.’

Most of us can confidently make a list of the qualities that we look for in a friend, and we know that if we are to be a true friend, then we also need to show those characteristics.

However, we can sometimes forget that those characteristics that we are looking for are exactly the same as the qualities and characteristics of God’s love for us. That was Jesus point. We too easily imagine that there is a huge distance between us and God. There isn’t! If there were, that would be a Master - Servant relationship! The key to the Good News that Jesus brings is that the God who loves us, knows us and has chosen us is closer to us than we are to ourselves is the closest friend that we could ever have!

Let us give thanks for this amazing offer of friendship!

We hope that you have had a good week.

There will be a couple of new equine faces up at equestrian. Mr T is a chestnut horse who arrived on Friday 15th and is still settling in. He has been moved up to the barn with the others after being stabled down the bottom stables with King for a few days. He is friendly, but can get a bit nippy so please be aware of this behaviour if you do say hello. Cookie will be joining us on Monday 25th, she is a skewbald pony who will go down the bottom stables for a few days while she settles in. She is very sweet, but will not be introduced to anyone until she joins the other horses in the barn, as we need to ensure she is happy and comfortable first.

As the weather has been very unpredictable in recent weeks, please can you make sure your child comes dressed appropriately to their lessons. Please pack a jumper and waterproof coat. Hoodies should not be worn, and if they are we will ask to tuck the hoods in before being around the horses.

And If your child cannot attend one of their lessons, then please let the office know by phone or by email, or the lesson can be cancelled on the booking site. As if you wish to cancel a lesson, we do require 48hrs notice or more in order to offer credit.

Topic of the week: the Farrier

The farrier has to come every 4-6 weeks to shoe your horse, depending on whether your horse has shoes or not. This is necessary as the farrier needs to trim their feet to ensure that they don’t get too long, which can disrupt the horse’s balance. It is also important to check that your horse's feet are healthy and that there are no abscesses or anything else that might make them uncomfortable. Wearing shoes help to protect the horse's feet, especially on the roads and on stony ground, but it is not necessary and it also depends on the horse.

We wish the team and individuals the best of luck at their next competition!
