Autumn Term

8th February 2021 24th September 2021

Message from Mrs Conrad Tomorrow we are looking forward to welcoming over 150 families to St Teresa’s Prep and Senior Schools. The sun is promising to shine and our Year 6 tour guides are very excited about the prospect of showing off their school and all its outstanding facilities. The grounds are looking immaculate and the teachers are keen to showcase some exciting lessons. Gary has prepared delicious catering, the Maintenance Team have been working tirelessly to ensure everything is in order and FOST have been wonderful in organising parent ambassadors to welcome prospective parents and tell them about life at St T’s. Huge thanks to everyone for their hard work and commitment to St Teresa’s – I am proud to be part of such a special community.

It was wonderful to celebrate our Community Mass this week. We particularly remembered those girls who have recently received their First Holy Communion, and were delighted that they came in their dresses. Fr Stephen also joined us for this wonderful celebration.

This Week in the Prep School Eco and Gardening Club The girls in Years 3 and 4 had a wonderful time in Eco and Gardening Club this week. We found out what the eco part of the club is all about and all the different ways we can look after the planet. The girls brainstormed their ideas and then started to create a poster celebrating Eco and Gardening Club with some amazing results. The girls also dug in some compost ready for planting next week.

Macmillan Coffee Morning The girls wore purple and green hair accessories and enjoyed a special cake at breaktime today in return for a donation to this very important cause. Thank you for your support!

Year 5—Pharaohs Year 5 used their knowledge of Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics to write their name on a cartouche. The ancient Egyptians wrote the names of their gods and royal people in an oval shape called a cartouche. The oval shape represents a rope with special powers to ward off evil spirits and keep the name inside it safe.

Year 6—RE As part of our topic on Loving, we read and discussed Psalm 23 and then the girls wrote their own modern version, comparing God to someone who takes care of them.

This Week Our school value for this year is ‘Character.’ As part of our reflection through the year, each half-term we will reflect on one outstanding character who we can adopt as an inspiration. This half-term we reflected on the amazing life of Saint Teresa of Calcutta, still known to millions across the world as Mother Teresa. At the core of our understanding of character is the idea of ‘becoming the person God calls us to be.’ We are here for a purpose, we have a unique contribution to God’s plan for the world, and our fundamental pursuit needs to be recognising this calling. And it takes time. She spent her early years as a teacher working with impoverished Bengali girls in Calcutta, providing for them an exit from poverty through education. This was God’s work, yet she knew that she was called to more. With permission, she left her community and established the Missionaries of Charity, living and working alongside the poorest of the poor, bringing the love of God to those who needed it most. Through her tireless work, and that of her religious sisters, she changed the lives of countless millions across the globe, particularly orphans, the elderly, cancer patients and AIDS/HIV victims. His work was recognised by more international, humanitarian awards than any one person has every received, including the Nobel Peace Prize: she was voted, by a huge margin the most respected individual in the 20th Century, she brought the love of Christ and the joy of the Gospel to countless individuals and all without any personal gain whatsoever. Truly, she is a great model of character for us to remember.
