Issue 3
Spring Term
26th January 2024
Big Garden Birdwatch Our Eco and Gardening Club would like as many girls as possible to take part in the Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend. Big Garden Birdwatch is the world’s largest garden wildlife survey. Every year, hundreds of thousand of nature lovers take part, helping to build a picture of how our precious garden birds are faring. The girls watched a video during assembly today, explaining that they need to spend one hour this weekend watching the birds in their gardens and record the ones that land there (even if it is none at all). They can then submit their results on line via this link. You will also find a guide to the different kinds of birds that you might spot in your garden. We’d love to see some photographs of the girls in action to include in next week’s bulletin.

Leila A for her excellent knowledge in our topic work this week, sharing her ideas with her peers and completing our activity on volcanos and earthquakes in the ring of fire! Hollie G for her excellent work this week in English, building a word cloud of vocabulary to write a poem about a volcano. Hollie used a range of poetry techniques, including similes and metaphors. Monica H for her contributions to our English lessons this week. Sharing her descriptive vocabulary to build her word cloud and use this in her sentences when creating her poem. Well done Monica. Florence D for fabulous ideas whilst preparing to write her expanded noun phrases for her volcano poem and for some super explanations of literacy devices to the class. Well done Florence. Arabella N for creating some fabulous expanded noun phrases using the prompts provided and sharing these with her group willingly. Well done Arabella. Sofia A for the wonderful enthusiasm you have shown across all our learning this week. Layla B for the determination you have demonstrated when tackling our multiplication and division questions in Math this week. Matilda W for including some effective adjectives, to add interest to her writing. Ivy M for her enthusiastic approach to investigating electrical circuits. Thea BH for her constant enthusiasm and desire to do well and improve her understanding. Cara AS for her development of her writing, using interesting language. Maggie M and Sophia D for their fantastic effort when using methods for multiplication and division this week. Jena W and Eva C for their brilliant descriptions of Tudor London, referring closely to the success criteria to ensure their writing included all the elements required. Sophia L and Elodie B for their super work in Maths recently, persevering with a challenge and showing resilience when learning a new method. Sophie B, Poppy E and Sybella J for their thoughtful and well designed Bishop's Armorial. Apollonia C-D for being an excellent ambassador for the music department. Isla BH and Maisie R excellent participation and ideas shared while exploring the synopsis of ‘A Mid summer Night’s Dream’ using hashtags #shakespeare #comedy #thecourseoftrueloveneverrunssmooth Amie B and Molly C for careful map work in Geography while locating key cities targeted by Germany during WWII and the counties where children were evacuated to. The whole class should be congratulated on their wonderful assembly. Chaeah H for stepping in last minute to take part in the Scottish dance in assembly. Amelia L for working positively in lessons and showing courage in adversity. Mrs Bishop for her impressive Scottish accent! Isabella C for using excellent editing skills when creating comic strips based on 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. Emily S for writing an extremely descriptive diary entry bout one of the miracles in John's gospel.
Drama Stars Kitty N for her creative responses to the poems and settings we explored. Thea B H for using her imagination to help to create some impressive dragons. Ruby S for her amusing characterisation and improved confidence when performing. Stef v E for her amazing performance as 'Wall' in A Midsummer Night's Dream
Year 3—Ink Nests In their art lessons, Year 3 have been exploring how ink can be used, and tried out feathers, spray bottles, droppers and wax resist to see what effects they could make. They have then applied these to drawing nests, with some super results! There was an amazing array of mark making and experimentation, to try and replicate the different elements of the nests such as the eggs, feathers and twigs.
Years 5 & 6—Young Shakespeare Workshop Year 5 and 6 enjoyed a magical and interactive performance of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' this week. The talented group of actors brought this comic tale vividly to life for the girls, including the whole audience to create the bustling Athenian market and the wood full of mysterious fairies and sprites. The hilarious rendition of 'Pyramus and Thisbe' had us all rolling in the aisles! The girls loved being audience, chorus, sound effects and players and are now using this unique insight to inspire follow up work in class.
Year 6—Vive La Mode! Year 6 have been learning about the world of fashion in France, an important subject in the culture and country's social life, as well as an important part of its economy. They have explored several areas of this industry such as famous brands and fashion shows. They have particularly enjoyed using the techniques used by fashion designers to create their own designs. We hope you enjoy them. Vive la mode!
Year 3— Rocks, Rumbles and Relics As part of our ‘Rocks, Rumbles and Relics’ topic, we have been looking at the activity of tectonic plates. The girls peeled a satsuma carefully and then tried to put the satsuma’s skin back together. "It's impossible!" many of the girls exclaimed. This gave them an understanding of how tectonic plates move and have changed the Earth’s surface over time.
Year 3—Art Club The girls in Year 3 Art Club have had fun creating mini-beasts in the style of Eric Carle, using collage and overlaying techniques. They then chose a background to either enhance or camouflage their creation.
6JG—Class Assembly This week 6JG brought a little of the Scottish highlands to the school. In celebration of Burn's Night, we learnt all about the Scottish poet Robert Burns, with poetry readings, dancing and a beautiful rendition of Auld Lang Syne. The girls remembered all their lines and even had a go at Scot's dialect.

Sports News Netball - Well done to the U8 Netball teams who took on St Catherine's school in a very close netball match. The girls worked the ball around the court well, despite St Catherine’s School being very good defensively. All the teams displayed fantastic team spirit. Congratulations to everyone who played and a special mention to Monica, Ivy and Millie who were awarded player of the matches.
On Tuesday, the U10 A-F netball teams played against St George’s. The conditions were wet and windy but the St Teresa’s spirit was not dampened. It was great to see the whole year group out playing. Well done to all the girls.
Hockey - The U10 A&B Hockey teams returned to the pitch on Friday to play Sutton High School. The A team contested a very tight game, with both sides having great opportunities to score. Avery K had another good performance in goal, making some excellent saves. Sophia L managed to convert an opportunity, putting us 1-0 up. Congratulations to Eliza P and Penny C for their player of the match performances which helped secure the first win of the year. The B team also had a tight game with only 1 goal separating the teams. Matilda made some excellent saves, which kept the team in the game. Despite the team's effort, it was not enough to get a draw this time. Eva M put in a great display of determination and work effort to earn herself the player of the match award. Well done!
Pupil news Congratulations to Izzy D and Sophia C who competed with their team (Royal All Stars Pegasus) at Future Cheer Essentials cheer leading competition at the weekend. They did amazingly well, and came first place in their category, against some very tough competition. Well done girls!
Judo Success Amaya achieved gold in her weight category for St Teresa’s in the southern area schools qualifier. The skill level was high and Amaya fought hard. She will be competing in Sheffield at the national competition in March. Well done Amaya!

This Week In the past, travellers around London could be seen with their well-worn copies of the A to Z Map, a book that showed them every street and road across the whole of the city. The problem with the A to Z though was that you had to know where you were and the direction that you wanted to travel in. Get either of these wrong and you would almost certainly get lost. The introduction of Sat Nav has changed all this. Once the destination has been set, our digital assistant will guide us onto the quickest route. And even on those occasions when we go astray, it quickly reroutes us. This week we reflected on the character of Jonah. Famously, having been told by God to travel East, over land, to Nineveh, he instead travelled West, over the sea, to Tarshish!! Things were bound to go wrong as he did the very opposite of what God called him to do. Rather than obey, he took the still more perilous decision to confront the greatest fear in the ancient world, the chaotic, unpredictable sea that was sure to be filled with every manner of terrible beast!
We can often be like Jonah. While we may not be quite so deliberate in our disobedience, most of us know those times when our thoughts, words and actions have gone against what we know to be good and right, what we know to be against God's gentle call for us. While we are unlikely to spend three days consumed by the horrors of the deep, when we reflect, we know, in our hearts, what we should do! Just like a sat nav, even on those occasions when we go terribly wrong, God gently redirects us. However far astray we may have gone, when we turn our attention back to Him, He will gently guide us back onto the right path. Perhaps this week we can reflect on where in our lives we need to make that change in direction, knowing that our loving Father will always be there guiding us on our journey.

We hope that you have all had a lovely week.
Our gorgeous pony Tango is looking for a new loan home. He is looking for a small adult who wants a fun ginger pony to go out hacking on, and possibly do some light schooling. If this sounds like you, or you know of someone, please contact the office.
Topic of the week: Exercise If your horse is in work, making sure they have regular exercise will keep them fit and healthy. Doing a range of different types of exercises, such as dressage, jumping, hacking and lungeing, will help your horse’s overall fitness and happiness. When working in the arena doing things like serpentines, figures of eights, and circles, as well as polework and groundwork keeps their interest and allows them to work different muscle groups. It is also important to go off-site to go hacking, going to an arena hire, cross country, and lots more!
