Explore Lectures

As you are aware, we are celebrating the value of Intellect this year. When we speak of ‘Intellect’, we strive to explore different spheres and topics beyond the curriculum

Under this guise, we have organised a fabulous series of lectures on a vast and diverse range of topics to run throughout the rest of the academic year. Our eminent and exciting speakers will aim to stimulate curiosity and encourage us all (parents, friends, family and staff) to explore something new.

The lectures will take place on Monday or Tuesday evenings, starting in January. They will be held in the Sixth Form Lecture Theatre and are open to all, free of charge. Nibbles and drinks will be served from 5:30pm for a 6pm start and a 7pm finish.

Golden Book

Well done to all of the girls in our Golden Books this week:

3RN Anna R for her excellent effort and attitude with her reading this week. Anna has worked hard on her fluency and expression. Well done!

Rosie M for her effort in English during our Tremors topic. Rosie has listened carefully to the objectives and has tried very hard with her descriptive writing, using fantastic vocabulary!

Primrose L for her excellent setting description of Pompeii. Primrose included wonderful adjectives and a variety of sentence starters to make the reader believe they were there the morning Vesuvius erupted!

3KC Clemmie W for fabulous effort in her phonics and spellings this half term. Well done Clemmie.

Rosalind D for always trying hard in all she does, for being a polite and kind member for persevering with her volcano poem. Super work Rosalind.

Esme S for super focus in maths particularly in our new topic time. Brilliant work Ayla.

Ayla M for her successful perseverance with her speaking voice when rehearsing for our Explorers assembly this week. Well done, Ayla.

4BB Avery K and Imogen S times in Maths

4CR Sophia L for her superb effort to choose description when writing a spooky story opening.

Eva C for her fantastic effort to use exciting vocabulary to enhance her work in English.

5HC Isabella G and Clara O for their excellent written description of a garden, full of figurative language and high-level vocabulary choices.

Jessica T and Alice F for their excellent and creative work on the fruits of the Holy Spirit in RE.

5MK Pascale E for her careful and thoughtful work in RE this week when discussing the Fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Rachel H and Abi F for always approaching their learning with such enthusiasm, particularly during group work.

5KH Flori H for her creative use of vocabulary when describing a secret garden.

Harriet L for the progress she has made in English since the start of the Spring Term.

Florence D for being a kind and thoughtful member of 5KH and a good friend.

Year 3 Class Assembly

The girls in 3KC loved sharing their assembly with the school community and their parents on Wednesday. Whilst being explorers, they shared loads of facts and newfound knowledge about their topics "Tremors" and "Urban Pioneers" as well as sharing their dancing, humour and plenty of singing. Well done girls, merits all round!

Year 3 Science

During science this week, the girls found out whether they had created fossils using three types of bread, two gummy sweets, greaseproof paper and some heavy books. We then left them for over a week and found out the answers. Guess what? They had created mould fossils! The bread had gone a little mouldy and stale but this showed the girls what happened when moisture was removed from the soil and created a mould around the sweets.

Years 3 & 4 Art Club

As promised, here are is some of the finished work from the Year 3 and 4 Art Club's 'Daisy Watercolour Paintings'. Mrs K and Miss B love how diverse the creations are, and how all of the girls had differing approaches to how they would create their daisies. From colour, to size, to abstract or realism, they are all so different, and so beautiful!

Year 4—Art

Year 4 were given the challenge of using only 3 marks to represent a fruit or vegetable, using black ink. They had to look carefully at the shape, the shadow and where the shadow within the object lay, which helps to build a 3D effect.

Year 3—Art

Year 3 had fun representing a volcano! They looked at the work of Frank Bowling and some girls chose to represent an abstract image which invoked the feelings of an eruption. They all aimed to incorporate expressive marks - in particular using flicking and dribbling.

Sports News

Cricket On Saturday morning, the U11A cricket team played in a cricket festival, 10 schools attended the event. The girls had a fun morning playing in lots of cricket matches. Some great bowling and batting was displayed within all of their games. Well done girls!

The U10As cricket team travelled to CLFS on Tuesday afternoon. The girls batted and bowled really well and displayed some amazing teamwork throughout. It was a close game, St T’s won by 25 runs! Well done to all of the girls who took part. Bowler of the game was Rachel H and Batter was Izzy C! The U10Bs cricket team took on CLFS in a wonderful friendly home fixture. Both teams were excited to play as CLFS went out to bat. The St Teresa's girls' game awareness was brilliant and their positivity and encouragement was contagious! The game was very competitive. It all came down to the last over to decide who would take the win. Despite the girl's -efforts CLFS managed to get a wicket in the last over meaning CLFS won by 9 runs, but all the girls had a terrific time participating. Players of the match went to Olivia P for her batting and Syna for her bowling. The U10C cricket team, played a very close game against CLFS at St T’s, unfortunately we didn't get the win this time, but the girls bowled and batted fantastically and worked hard as a team. Player of the match was Maysie. Well done to all of the girls who played!

Athletics On Wednesday afternoon, the U8-10 athletic teams travelled to the Guildford Spectrum to take part in the GHS athletic event. The girls had a great afternoon filled with lots of different athletics events including a throw, jump and run. The girls enjoyed the sunshine and the events. Well done to all of the girls who took part and congratulations to Poppy E in Y4 who won gold for her age category!

This Week

In our scripture reading this week (Matthew 13:45 46), Jesus uses the metaphor of treasure and pearls. Those who find the treasure set aside everything else in their lives to pursue the greatest treasure. Often in our lives we can become obsessed with false treasure, those things that occupy us and eat up our time and our energy to the exclusion of everything else. Only later, as we look back, do we come to realise that what we esteemed so highly is actually of little or no worth at all.

Our world prizes these types of treasure - wealth, status, reputation, possessions. While it is true that none of these things are inherently wrong in themselves, they do lead us down a deceptive backwater that ultimately leads us to placing ourselves at the centre of our universe to the exclusion of all others.

Jesus vision for us and for all humanity is to pursue that which has real, abiding treasure.

The metaphor of a pearl is a beautiful one. Of course, in the first instance, we recognise the natural beauty of a pearl. Yet we have done nothing to produce this beauty. Instead, it is a free gift, much like the grace that, if we choose to recognise it, God pours out on each and every one of us.

But there is more. The production of a pearl is a slow process, gently building up over time, totally hidden from sight, often in the deepest, darkest places, down among the mud. What, we might ask, can come of such a place? Yet, as we know, that pearl is there, ready for each of us to discover and recognise its true value.

As we reflect on those things in life that are true treasures, help us to turn our full attention to these things so that, as Jesus reminds us, we can build up that real treasure in our heavenly home.

We hope that you have had a good week, and are looking forward to the half term.

As the weather has become unpredictable, please make sure your child brings a raincoat for riding if the forecast is showing thick clouds or rain, and if it’s due to be hot then make sure they are wearing a shirt that covers their shoulders. It has been so variable lately that the staff are still bringing all their coats, just in case!

If there are any school trips or events that your daughter will be doing instead of riding, then please let the office know by phone or by email. As if you wish to cancel a lesson, we do require 48hrs notice or more in order to offer credit. Any later and we are unable to fill the slot with a rider for a catch up lesson or off the waitlist.

May Half Term

The half term dates are available to book! Have a look on our online site to book your spaces now!

Bobby and Sid have new saddles which are very nice and fit them well, so they will be more comfortable in their lessons. The riding lessons have gone very well recently with the riders and horses enjoying the warmer weather.

The horse of the week is Bobby!

We wish you luck in the next competition!
