Issue 3
Spring Term
8th February 2021 28th January 2022
Message from Mrs Conrad It has been another action packed week here at St Teresa’s. Year 3 enjoyed an afternoon of games and crafts with the Year 3 boys from Cranmore and Years 5 and 6 were immersed in the world of Shakespeare with the help of inspirational actors from the Young Shakespeare Company. Several of our girls participated in scenes from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and I think RADA may well be receiving some future applications! Huge thanks to FOST, as always, for organising the Popcorn and Pyjama Party for Years 2-4. The Henderson Hall was transformed into an atmospheric cinema with fairy lights and soft lighting and everyone enjoyed the wonderful new Disney film ‘Encanto’ with a perfect message for our girls, “If she wasn’t strong enough to believe in herself, then maybe she’d never be the person who could save us all.”

Congratulations! Please join us in congratulating Mr and Mrs Yeend (formerly Miss Hilder) on their marriage over the Christmas break! With a couple of false starts due to the ever changing covid rules, we are so happy that they were finally able to have their special day. Miss Hilder will now be known as Mrs Hilder at school!
On Monday 31st January, St Teresa’s Prep School will be taking part in the RSPB Big Schools bird watch. This will take place from 12.15-1.15pm. There will be two options for the girls to take part. The first option is to count the birds through a scope and binoculars from 12.1512.45pm and have lunch afterwards. The second option is to go on a leisurely walk around the school looking for the birds from 12.45-1.15pm accompanied by Miss Rippington. If your daughter would like to bring in her own binoculars, that would be great!
This Week In The Prep School Year 2—Art After looking closely at Monet's 'Boats at Rest' painting, the girls created their own interpretations using collage techniques.
Year 2—Science Last week, the girls were presented with frozen blocks of ice and the question 'Can you find the treasure?'. The girls brainstormed ways of melting the ice - using tools, salt, heat and hot water - and then got to work!
Year 3—English This week in English, Year 3 have pretended to be Icarus and have written diary entries on the day before Icarus and his father jump off the tower, where they are imprisoned on the island of Crete. The girls included an introduction and the main event in chronological order. Also, they included Icarus' feelings, time conjunctions and rhetorical questions. Afterwards, they wrote their diaries up on papyrus paper using a pen!
5HC—Class Assembly 5HC presented their Stargazers assembly on Thursday morning, blasting off into space and taking us on a tour through our solar system. Whizzing around the planets, they taught us lots of fascinating facts and entertained us with their wonderful singing. A highlight of the performance was the superb drama about the 1969 Moon landings, well done girls!
Eco & Gardening Club In Eco and Gardening Club, the girls planted a variety of basil seeds in their pots they had decorated last week. The girls learnt what happens when the seeds germinate and researched other plants that could go in our raised beds. Watch this space!
Years 5 & 6—Young Shakespeare Company Today, Years 5 and 6 were treated to a visit from the Young Shakespeare Company, who performed an interactive version of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', enlisting the help of many of the girls. It was an energetic and fun-packed morning which left the girls with an understanding of one of Shakespeare's most famous comedies.
Forest School Club The Prep girls have been making the most of the Forest School area; designing bird feeders, toasting marshmallows, building dens and even making 'food' in the mud kitchen!

This Week This week, we thought about angels. We all imagine angels in different ways. Perhaps we have seen familiar pictures of winged cherubs. Or perhaps we remember a time when we were dressed as one of those cherubs in a Nativity Play. It is interesting to hear how often people mention angels. Of course, they appear regularly in the Bible. We were reminded that it was angels that announced to Mary that she was to have a child. And it was the angels to announced to the shepherds in the fields that that baby, Jesus, had been born. It was an angel that guided and warned Joseph in a dream. And another angel who protected Jesus from Herod’s soldiers by warning the Magi to return home by another way and Joseph to take his young family into Egypt. We also hear about angels in Jesus’ own life. We will soon begin the Church’s season of Lent when we remember the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the desert. At the end of that time, it was angels who supported him. On the day before Jesus died, and we prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, it was angels to strengthened him. And, on that great day when he rose from the dead, it was the angels at the tomb who announced the resurrection. But what of angels today. Most of us haven’t seen angels in the way that we see them in pictures. But most of us know times when people have unexpectedly helped us, guided us, supported and strengthened us. It would be true to say that these are the people that God has sent to be his angels in our lives. And perhaps there have even been times when we are told that we are ‘a little angel.’ Perhaps we should take this a little bit more seriously. Perhaps these are the times when God is calling us to help him in his work!
