Explore Lectures

As you are aware, we are celebrating the value of Intellect this year. When we speak of ‘Intellect’, we strive to explore different spheres and topics beyond the curriculum – and just for the sheer joy of it.

Under this guise, we have organised a fabulous series of lectures on a vast and diverse range of topics to run throughout the rest of the academic year. Our eminent and exciting speakers will aim to stimulate curiosity and encourage us all (parents, friends, family and staff) to explore something new.

The lectures will take place on Monday or Tuesday evenings, starting in January. They will be held in the Sixth Form Lecture Theatre and are open to all, free of charge. Nibbles and drinks will be served from 5:30pm for a 6pm start and a 7pm finish.

Year 4—RoadTrip USA

In Year 4, the girls jetted across the seas into their new Road Trip USA topic. We kicked off the topic with a specific New York focus. The girls were given the task of creating a 'project' to represent New York in the most fun and creative way they could. We had all sorts of creations from informative PowerPoint presentations to 4ft Statues of Liberty, to home baked New York Cheesecake! As you can see, the results were absolutely phenomenal. What creative minds we have here in Year 4!

Eco & Gardening Club

In Eco and Gardening Club we have been busy planting! We planted broad bean seeds in the raised beds and in the classroom to see which ones would germinate first. We also planted cress seeds and lettuce seeds in pots to germinate in the classroom. Fingers crossed we will have some to plant out in the raised beds as soon as the weather is warmer.

6HI—Class Assembly

Year 6HI celebrated World Book Week with their class assembly this morning. Dressed in pyjamas, they gathered together for a bedtime story and helped to convey why reading is so important. The girls read examples of their own work and then ended with a Mastermind quiz!

This Week

The first of our Lenten themes is Pray. Sometimes we are not sure how to begin praying, particularly if we are not used to the idea. We can get bogged down in questions of what we should say. Learning prayers like the Our Father can be a helpful start, but we also need to remember that pray is just spending time in God’s presence, telling him what is on our mind. Pope Francis encourages us to use his simple Five Finger Prayer. It is really simple, and you can do it anywhere, at any time.

Begin with your thumb. Your thumb is the closest finder to you, so begin by thinking of those who are closest to you - your family and friends. Give thanks for each of them, naming them. And, if there is something they need, tell God about it.

Move on to your Index finger. This finger usually points us in the right direction. Remember all those

We hope that you are all well, but please remember to pack enough layers for riding. It has been very bitter t have too many spare coats on hand!

It was an incredible result of NSEA competitions last weekend, have a look on our Facebook page for a video of the events!

There was an NSEA competition at Merrist Wood last weekend and there were really good results from the riders!

At STE, the Chiropractor came round and gave some of the horses a really good treatment. And we are happy that the lessons are back on as normal from this week!

The horse of the week is… Mouse!

An incredibly busy weekend for the STE NSEA teams; two venues, two disciplines, heights from 40cm-1m, some riders at their first competitions and with new ponies, great riding, great team spirit and they all went back to school for a rest on Monday!

At Merrist Wood show jumping on Saturday, Claudia B went double clear in the 70cm for 8th and Harriet L jumped a brilliant double clear at her first ever competition.

In the 80cm we had two teams, the Blue team of Amber B (individual 4th), Lilly S and Saskia TvV all jumped double clear for 2nd place, and qualified for the Champs in October. Meanwhile the Green team of Claudia B, Antonia S (10th) and Pernille A finished 4th, qualifying for the Plate Champs in October.

The 90cm team of Amber B, Lilly S, Chloe B and Izzy L finished 2nd, also qualifying for the Champs in October with an individual 4th for Chloe and 7th for Amber.

Onto Sunday, and it was a very busy day at Coombelands with Arena Eventing and Show Jumping going on.

In the Arena Eventing Pernille had a great round in the 70cm to finish just outside the top 10. In the 80cm there were lots of great rounds jumped but highlights were an individual 4th for Lilly S and 9th for Amber B. The 90cm team of Lilly S, Chloe B and Lulu S finished 4th, with Lulu placing 4th and Chloe 5th individually. Lulu S also did the 1m as an individual to come 7th.

In the show jumping, Holly C and Jess R both had great rounds in the 50cm for a double clear finishing just outside the placings. In the 60cm Jess R finished 2nd, and Antonia S also finished 2nd in the 80cm.

In the 90cm Windsor Qualifier the team of Amber B, Chloe B, Antonia S and Izzy L put in a strong performance to finish on 4 faults and 5th out of 12 teams, with Chloe finishing 3rd individually out of 45 riders.

A mammoth weekend and a huge thank you to all the parents, supporters and riders for all their hard work and representing the school so well! We are very proud and look forward to continuing the great teamwork and camaraderie throughout the rest of the year and beyond!
