Message from Mrs Conrad It has been a very exciting week, with all of our Year 6 girls receiving their offers to the Senior School and a record breaking number of scholarships (18!) being awarded across a variety of disciplines. Congratulations to all our girls on their tremendous achievements, especially given that the Senior School is oversubscribed by 4 girls to every one place. We are extremely proud of each one of them! Huge thanks must go to the entire staff team for enabling our girls to make such tremendous academic progress throughout their journey in the Prep School and for helping them to realise their potential in all subject areas.

Finally, I would like to wish all our families celebrating Chinese New Year, “Gong xi fa cai”! May you be blessed with good luck, fortune, happiness and love in this Year of the Tiger.

Driving around the School Site We have had a couple of reports of parents driving fast at drop off and pick up. Please may you help us to keep everyone safe and take care when driving on the school site. We are looking to marking Children’s Mental Health Week and Safer Internet day next week with lot of activities and educational sessions. You can read all about it in next week’s bulletin.

Online Safety Given the increase of cybercrime in recent times, particularly from criminals targeting educational institutions across the UK, we are asking Parents, as a precaution, to be extra vigilant. Many of the scams currently being reported rely on cyber criminals convincing victims to redirect payments to bank accounts controlled by criminals – usually through a fake email informing the recipient of a change in bank account details. In response to this elevated risk, we wish to advise parents that the school would never inform of any change in important aspects of school administration, such as a change in account details, by email. We would encourage everyone to be vigilant in these times and should you receive anything suspicious purporting to be from the school, then please do let us know.

This Week In The Prep School Year 6—English Bella took this recipe home from an English comprehension text and made these amazing war time honey cakes. She discovered that it’s not quite so easy making cakes when you can’t use electrical gadgets!

Later, the girls set out to solve riddles and used a map to find their own treasure in a buried chest.

Year 3—Comic Strips As part of our topic Gods and Mortals, the girls in Year 3 have been writing and illustrating comic strips about some of the stories in Greek Mythology including Perseus and Medusa, Cronos versus Zeus, Icarus and Daedalus and many more. The girls used their imagination to create some fabulous illustrations with speech, thought bubbles and onomatopoeia. There were also some fabulous captions written about every picture.

This Week This week we continued our series of special Chapel Services where we focused on a ‘Hero of the Old Testament.’ This week we looked at Moses. Moses’ ancestor, Joseph, had brought his father Jacob and his eleven brothers to live in Egypt, where they and their families had become successful and numerous. Pharaoh became worried and, in a terrifying move, tried to kill all the Hebrew children. Moses’ sister, Miriam, hatched a plan. She placed baby Moses in a basked and floated him down the river where he was discovered by a royal princess. She longed to have a child of her own so she adopted Moses and brought him up as a royal prince. As a young man, Moses saw how badly treated the Hebrews were. On one occasion he saw an Egyptian master beating one of the Hebrew slaves. Moses was overcome with anger and pushed the master away. The master tripped, hit his head and died on the spot. Moses was terrified that he would be accused of murder so the fled into the wilderness. There had had an extraordinary experience. He saw a burning bush, but the flames were not eating up the leaves and branches. As he approached he heard the voice of God speak to him. ‘Let my people go!’ God told him. Moses was reluctant, but he did what God commanded. The Pharaoh was a stubborn man and refused to allow the people to pass. Moses explained that when we don’t follow God’s law of love things always go wrong. Indeed the whole land was afflicted with 10 terrible plagues.

Pharaoh eventually gave in and Moses led the people into freedom. But Pharaoh’s heart was hardened and he sent his army to kill Moses and the people. But God protected his people. Even when they reach the great sea, God parted the waters and the people walked through on dry land into freedom. As we remember the great hero Moses, we remember that we too are called to follow God’s law of love and to know that God walks at our side at all times.
