Drama Stars of the Week Amelia H for her articulating her ideas with clarity and confidence. Elsie W for her impressive winning streak in the warm-up game. Nicci W for her enthusiastic approach to her group task.

Years 5 & 6—Photograph Competition Rotary Young Photographer is a well-established and successful annual competition promoted by Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RGBI). It is a three-stage competition designed to support and encourage the development of photographic skills starting with a local heat in February, with the best entries going forward to a District competition and on to a National Final at the end of March. Entries are submitted in age groups for fairness. The initial task is submit one photograph based upon the theme, “The Beauty of Architecture” with a sentence to explain the relationship to the theme. This competition aims to encourage young people to experiment and express their ideas and interpretation of the subject through the medium of digital photography. Judges will consider technical merit, content and composition, and imagination and style. Competitors will receive a certificate of participation with appropriate awards for the winners at all stages of the competition. Entries for the local heat, closing date Saturday 4th February 2023, are invited on behalf of the Mole Valley Rotary Clubs and should be submitted to Miss Shear - s.shear@st-teresas.com no later than Wednesday 1st February ‘23. In half term, Paris visited the Tate Modern and also found David Hockney at the Tate Britain!

In half term the Hall family travelled around France. On one of their day trips they went to the local market village of Mirepoix. They visited the stunning Cathedrale St-Maurice de Mirepoix, c.1298 and came across a statue of St Therese de Lisieux, which the girls were thrilled to find. They all lit a candle and offered up their own prayers.

Year 3—Art Club The girls in Year 3 Art Club, enjoyed experimenting with oil pastels to create an eerie night-time backdrop, before drawing and cutting out back silhouettes to make a spooky festive picture.

Year 4—Viking Workshop On Thursday, the Year 4s were transported back in time to Anglo-Saxon Britain! With a day full of swords, axes, chainmail, spices, gold, and some very strange clothing, we were taught so many new and interesting facts about the Vikings! We battled against each other, using Old English and Latin commands and we even had the chance to try on some battle armour. We also acted out Beowulf which was awesome! Performing the Viking burial was a little scarier. Did you know, warriors were buried alongside their armour AND their horses!? It was a brilliant day, and we most certainly all learnt a great deal of new things about the Vikings.

Eco & Gardening Club During Eco and Gardening Club, the children made ephemeral art in the style of Andy Goldsworthy. They collected various items for the school grounds such as leaves, pine cones, stones and pine needles. Afterwards, they made their own pictures using what they had found on a vibrant background. We talked about the autumn colours too.

Monument Mayhem Projects The girls in Year 3 were amazing at presenting their Monument Mayhem projects to the class. There were a variety of PowerPoints and tremendous booklets which the girls shared confidently, especially the letters to the other tribe! Some of the girls even visited the actual monuments like Stonehenge and created their monuments on the beach! A lot of work and effort has gone into each monument, with the girls having so many creative ideas. Well done! A super successful project and a wonderful end to your first topic in Year 3.

In Year 3, Thea placed 3rd in the run, fighting off the competition with a strong finish. Isabella in Year 5 gained another PB in her run, with a sub 3 minute time and at least a 50m lead ahead of her competitors. Our final race was from the Year 6, where India stormed through on the swim and Natalia kept the competitors at bay in the run. A great start to the biathlon season. We look forward to seeing how many girls qualified for the finals.

The E team won 3-1, showing superb teamwork and passes up the pitch. The D team had some beautiful attacking play, scoring a goal in the second half. Players of the matches were Pascale and Izzy. This Week On Tuesday both our schools joined together to celebrate the Feast of All Saints. On this day, we remember the example of the countless number of those who have lived heroic lives of virtue and who, we believe, already enjoy the eternal life of heaven. Many of these are saints we know by name and we recalled those most familiar in our own school environment - our house saints, St Benedict, St Francis, St Dominic and St Ignatius; but also those who have buildings in our school named after them - St John Bosco (the English and Mathematics departments), St Thomas More (the Science and Geography departments) and St Edmund Campion (the Art and Modern Foreign Languages departments). And of course, we have very recently recalled our own school patron, St. Thérèse of Lisieux. We recalled that we are all called to be saints, that is, to recognise that God has called each and everyone of us to a very particular mission. May we enable the seed of that calling to grow and flourish in our lives.

REMINDER—Shoebox Appeal Everyone is reminded that the final date to send your shoebox in for our ’Children in Distress’ appeal is Friday, 11th November. Please bring your completed box and add it to the display in the School Chapel. Thank you!

Thanks to everybody that entered the Front Cover Competition for the Christmas Fair programme. We had so many lovely entries, we are still deciding which one was the overall winner. We will make the final announcement in next week’s newsletter. Follow us @fost_st_teresas_effingham

We hope that you have all had a lovely half term. We have sent out a questionnaire to all of our riders so that we can run more of a variety of activities during the holiday period. We will be collecting these responses on Thursday 17th November and will have the Christmas Holiday activities published the following week ready to book. As the weather is so variable at the moment, please make sure that you come with a jumper (no hoodies!) and/or a coat to wear when it’s chilly out. As we are on top of a hill, we get a bit of a cold wind when riding in the arena! A reminder that if you wish to cancel a lesson, we do require 48hrs notice or more in order to offer credit. Any later and we are unable to fill the slot with a rider for a catch up lesson or off the waitlist.

In the half term holiday, STE ran Pony Mornings and Afternoons which are fun for both riders and ponies! There were also NSEA training sessions in preparation for the team who competed at the NSEA Championships! And on the 25th, STE also hosted a biting clinic which was a big success! The horse of the week is… Sidan!

Finally, while the weather is showing on and off rain, we’d like to remind our riders that we still run lessons in the wind and rain provided there is not a risk to anyone’s safety. As an alternative for those who don’t want to ride, then we do offer stable management lessons in the warm barn.
