We are seeing a very high volume of lost property at the moment. The teachers will speak to the girls about taking good care of their possessions. Please may parents ensure that all items that come into school (including water bottles) are clearly named (or renamed, if they were purchased from the second hand shop) so that we can ensure that they are returned to their owner.

Year 5—Art
Year 5 have begun to explore different surface patterns. They began by looking at the surface patterns of Chinese vases and, "deconstructed" the surface patterns. They exploded the marks across their page and then drew an outline on top of their studies at the end. The aim of this exercise was to focus on the patterns, and to take away the need to represent the container and confine elements within it.
Year 5 then looked at the work by the artist, Gillian Adair, who created surface patterns on paper by making holes . The girls were challenged to create their own simple pattern and to name what they think theirs resembled.
‘Sparkle’ ‘Ripple’
Year 4 Science
This week, Year 4 have continued their work on Vertebrates and Invertebrates by exploring classification keys and creating their own keys to sort Haribo. They asked yes or no questions using differences between the sweets, to end up with individual or groups of Haribo that were the same. All girls resisted temptation and worked hard to separate the different types of sweet!
Sports News
Well done to all the U8s who played in the football match against Danes Hill on Friday. Everyone played with determination and had a fun afternoon showing off their football skills! Well done to those who scored goals for their team. We look forward to more football fixtures in the future. The U8C were tenacious, tough and determined. They went 2 goals down in the first half but some excellent passing and teamwork later in the game meant it finished 2-2. Well done to Olivia H and Emilia C for scoring the goals and to Florence D for being nominated as player of the match.
Netball On Friday 29th September, the U11A&B netball teams played Sutton High School. The girls came out with fight and determination. The A team won 8-1 and the player of the match was Olivia. The B team won 12-2 and the player of the match was Imogen. Well done girls!
Cross Country It was an absolute pleasure to take this group of girls to such a fun and enjoyable cross-country team event on the afternoon of Tuesday 3rd October. Rikkyo School hosted a Japenese inspired relay event which involved passing the sash between teammates. Alongside this, we had Elliot Giles, an English middle-distance runner from Birmingham, specialising in the 800 metres, join the event. He is best known for winning the bronze at the 2016 European Championships and the girls were lucky enough to be led in a warm-up by him, have him start their races, get his signature, as well as attempting to run one lap of the track (400m) at his normal 800m pace! This most certainly provided the girls with the exposure of just how impressive these athletes are!
The U11 team consisted of three teams of three runners from Year 6. Within their team, each girl ran 0.75 miles across a thrilling cross-country course around Rikkyo School. The highlight from the U11 race was Sophia Nugent's impressive first lap for her team, which saw her challenging everyone including some of the under U11 boys. All the girls worked incredibly hard and showed determination and resilience throughout the races.
Biathlon On Sunday 1 October, a number of St Teresa's girls competed in the National Biathlon Qualifiers, where they swam at Downsend School in the morning and ran at the Guildford Spectrum Athletics Track in the afternoon. The girls competed with sheer determination and we were very impressed with the standard on display. They all gave 100% effort and pushed themselves outside their comfort zone in a challenging event. We look forward to seeing how the girls got on once all the qualifying results are in. The national finals are due to take place in Bath in March.
If this is something that you or your daughter is keen to do, there is still an opportunity to enter a qualifiers for this years National Biathlon. This Week
No sooner than we finish celebrating the feast of St Thérèse, we immediately celebrate the feast of not only one of the most popular saints but also one of our House patrons, St Francis of Assisi (4th October). The life of St Francis is rich with significance for today. He lived a life of extreme poverty, forsaking all other earthly possessions, despite coming from a wealthy family. He is a model for choosing a life of simplicity, in solidarity with the poor. In his lifetime, one of his greatest achievements was his dialogue with Islam. At a time of conflict and tension, he went out of his way to communicate and build friendships with the Muslim nations of his time. He is a model of reaching out in genuine care to those who hold opinions and beliefs different to ourselves. Following his personal call to living a life of sanctity, he drew huge numbers of followers. This is still the case with Franciscan communities all over the world. He is a model to us of how none of us do what we do alone and that we are always drawn into communities. His sanctity was borne out when he received the stigmata, the wounds of Christ on his own body. He is a model for us of a saintly life, one dedicated to becoming the person God calls us to be. He is perhaps best remembered by us today because of his great Canticle of Creation, where he recognises our closeness to the beauty of creation, God’s most abundant gift to us all. On his feast day this year, his influence was seen once again by his namesake, Pope Francis, who named himself after St Francis to show his solidarity with the poor. Pope Francis has published his second great letter to people of goodwill across the world reminding us of the climate crisis that we all face. We pray that as we reflect on the life of St Francis we will learn from his example.
St Francis, pray for us!
