Message from Mrs Conrad

It was wonderful to see so many of you and your extended family and friends at our Spring Concert on Wednesday evening. The girls were absolutely superb and performed an eclectic programme of songs including Bob Chilcott's ‘Can you hear me?’ with sign language and the gospel finale ‘How can I keep from singing?’. Their tone and diction was beautiful and the two-part singing was extremely impressive. Our musical ensembles also delighted us with their instrumental pieces. There was a real sense of joy about the whole occasion with the girls really enjoying their music making and taking part so enthusiastically.

Thank you to all the staff for helping with the organisation behind the scenes and huge congratulations to Mrs Harris on such a successful concert.

World Book Week

This week, we have been celebrating Book Week with a range of exciting activities, visits and competitions.

The girls enjoyed swapping their £1 book tokens for their chosen World Book Day book and it has been great to see the girls reading these throughout the week.

We were incredibly excited to welcome our visiting author, M.G. Leonard, on Tuesday! She led an engaging whole-school assembly and read the girls an extract from her new book in the Twitchers series, “Feather”. This was followed by creative writing workshops for each year group as well as individual book signings for those who purchased one of her books.

On Thursday, West End in Schools delivered ‘Bringing Books to Life’ dance workshops for each class. These work shops were based on the book, ‘Butterfly Lion’ by Michael Morpurgo. The girls loved getting creative and enjoyed performing their dances.

To celebrate World Book Day, children around the world dressed up as their favourite book characters, and St Teresa’s was no exception. We had some fantastic costumes and were very pleased to see so many homemade costumes – what a great way to get involved at home!

Thank you to everyone who participated, including staff who went the extra mile with their costumes.

6RW Class Assembly

This morning, Year 6 kicked off dress-up day with their World Book Day themed assembly. They re-told various extracts from famous books, performed poetry and entertained us by singing their own World Book Day song!

International Women's Day

International Women's Day (IWD) celebrates women's achievements and calls for more equality. It's been happening for over 100 years and belongs to everyone around the world. It's not just for one country or group, but for everyone.

This week, in our celebration assembly, we reminded the girls about this important day and highlighted this year's theme of 'Inspire Inclusion'. When we inspire others to understand and value women's inclusion, we forge a better world. When women themselves are inspired to be included, there's a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment. The girls wore their purple ribbon stickers with pride as they left the hall, ready to follow up on some of these ideas in their classrooms.

Year 6, LifeLab, 15th March Final Pitch, Henderson Hall

Year 6 are busy putting the final touches in preparation for their LifeLab day on Friday. They can be seen practising their Perfect Pitch presentations and making their products. It has been impressive to see their teamwork skills and creativity come together.

String Fever

We were thrilled to welcome back the Broadbent family, aka Stringfever, to perform at this year’s Cranmore Live. Cousin Graham, brothers Neal and Ralph and sister Sophie, are all superb musicians in their own right but the magic really happens when they come together as Stringfever. Violinist Ralph, oversaw the afternoon workshops which saw 43 young string players from Cranmore, St Teresa's, Manor House and St Thomas of Canterbury work on their concert piece, 'Stand by Me'. After the workshops and a hearty dinner, the pupils, supported by Stringfever, put on a fabulous rendition of their piece at the start of the concert. This was followed by an immensely entertaining set by Stringfever, the highlights of which were the film medley, Tchaikovsky medley, The History of Music in 5 minutes and their ever popular and extremely amusing take on Ravel's Bolero. The 250 strong audience showed their appreciation with applause and laughter in equal measure. A special mention must go to Mr Chapman and Mr Heaver, who were somewhat surprised to be plucked from the audience and displayed their talent for violin playing during the Bolero. They may have played just a single note, but what a note it was! My thanks to Claire Harris (Director of Music, St Teresa’s Prep School) and Nevada Summerley (Head of Music, Manor House ) for bringing and supporting their pupils throughout the event. Also to Cranmore music staff, Piers Roberts and Lara Horn for their support on the day. Lastly, thank you to Caroline Yalden (Director of Music, St Teresa’s Senior School) who joined us for the concert. It was a truly wonderful and inspiring evening for us all and I am already looking forward to planning next year's Cranmore Live.

Senior School Music Festival

Year 4 and 5 had a wonderful time today listening to some of our Senior School pupils play in the Music Festival. We heard singers, string players, brass players and pianists. It was really interesting to listen to the adjudicator and hear his thoughts. The girls were really inspired to practice and maybe even to learn a new instrument!

This Week

This week we continued our exploration of three encounters found in Mark’s Gospel where Jesus reaches out, literally as well as metaphorically, to those on the margins of society. This week we reflected on the account of the healing of the woman with a haemorrhage (Mark 5:25-34).

The woman in questions would, at this time, have been totally isolated from both society and from the worship in the temple. There would have been a deep rooted suspicion that this ailment that had lasted for so many years would have been the result of immoral behaviour, with the illness being some form of punishment. As if to add insult to injury, she would have been prevented from taking any part in the worship of the community due to the consideration of blood being unclean, and such an illness meaning that she could not even set foot within the Temple, let alone worship.

What then becomes apparent is the woman’s courage. We see the seed of faith grow in her as she seizes the opportunity to approach Jesus as he walks through her town. Seemingly in secret she catches hold of the hem of his garment and, in that moment of tentative faith, her ailment is healed and she is made whole again. The disciples, in their typical way, are aghast at Jesus when he askes who touched him. Yet this provides an opportunity for the woman to confirm her faith. After her faltering first approach her experience of healing and inclusion enables her to declare her faith in Jesus her saviour- literally, her healer - as she bows down before him.

As we reflect on this account we can recall that we too are drawn into that relationship of love that is always on offer. The simplest action from us opens the floodgates of that grace that is on offer. And likewise, having received that grace so we too can be alert to those who we meet who feel excluded, disenfranchise and on the margins so that we can be the hand of welcome that invites them back into a community of love.

Sports News

U11 Interhouse NetballTournament

The U11 girls had a great time during games on Tuesday afternoon playing in the interhouse netball tournament. It was a fun afternoon where the girls were able to demonstrate all they had learnt during their games sessions.

The final scores were: 4th St Francis, 3rd St Benedict, 2nd St Ignatius and 1st St Dominic. Well done to all the girls who competed.

U11A Hockey

Another week, another hailstorm for the U11s to endure! This time the match was against Tormead and the team all played brilliantly, even through the challenging weather. The strong press from the team meant that Tormead found it difficult to pass through us, resulting in quick attacks when we forced the turnovers. Goals from Rachel, Liv and Tabby secured a 6-2 victory. Well played all!

Prep Swim Gala

On Thursday 29th March the U8-U11s hosted a swim gala v Rowan Prep. The girls had been working hard in their lessons and were determined to put their new skills to the test. It was particularly pleasing to see all squads perform so well in the Breast stroke races. The U8s and U9s were up against a tough opponent but showed great determination to never give up despite racing against girls swimming out of age group. The U10 and U11s A&B relay teams secured overall victory with some fantastic takeovers. Something they have all been working hard on during their lessons. Well done to all prep school swimmers on a fantastic gala and as always thank you to those that came to support and cheer the girls on. The spectator area was once again full!

IAPS

On Wednesday 28th March, the U10 and U11 swim squad attended the IAPS qualifiers. The girls were nervous but excited for the day and determined to do well, not only for the school but also for their fellow team mate Stef von Ey who agonisingly had to pull out on the day of the competition due to a sprained ankle. The competition got under way with the relays and after many weeks of practising takeovers the girls performed seamlessly well to get some fantastic times. During the individual events, every member of the squad came in the top 2 of each race, giving themselves every chance to qualify. When it comes to standout performances it would be difficult to highlight specific individuals as every swimmer gave their all and worked as a team to perform to the best of their ability. We await with baited breath to see if we have qualified for any events in the coming weeks. Well done U10 and U11 IAPS squad.

Surbiton

We were very proud of Rachel H from the Prep School who was asked to join Mrs Elliott to play with the ladies1's and 2's in a premier league hockey match vs Bowdon at Surbiton Hockey Club. We hope she enjoyed the match, feels inspired by the hockey and comes along to support again soon!

Tag Rugby Club

The girls had a great time at club this week where they were demonstrating their passing skills through a variety of engaging drills and game play.
