5HC — Class Assembly
On Thursday, 5HC took us back in time to meet the infamous Tudor family during their class assembly. Singing songs and taking us on a tour through the portrait gallery of Hampton Court, we met flamboyant Henry VIII and his six sorry wives, learning all about the fascinating and terrifying history of the Tudor Dynasty.

Year 3 Computing
The girls have been creating a Rock Band using the coding program Scratch. They found a suitable background and included many musical sprites including a DJ or singer and coded each sprite using loops, repeating sounds, played more than one sound at a time to create a chord and played a series of notes. Well done girls, they looked and sounded wonderful!
Year 6 Breakfast from the world
Inspired by the various breakfasts you can find in the Spanish speaking world, the girls in Year 6 decided to explore the theme of breakfast around the world. So they organised their own version of an international breakfast and they sampled the delicious offerings:

Pains au Chocolat Welsh cakes
Brioches Cinnamon rolls
Palmiers Fairy bread

Flower Procession in honour of Our Lady
On Tuesday, we gathered for our annual procession honouring Mary. Our Chaplaincy Team reminded us of how important Mary is as a model of faith. When she was asked by God to be the mother of Jesus, she replied, ‘Let it be done to me according to your will!’ She is a model of how we can respond to God’s call in our lives.
One of the reasons Mary is so important is that she intercedes for us. In life, if we have a concern or a worry, we ask family and friends for help and support. We do the same with Mary, our Heavenly Mother. We ask for her help and support, particularly asking her to intercede – that is, to carry our prayers for us – to her Son, Jesus.
To show the honour in which we hold Mary, we traditionally present her with flowers, especially in this season of spring, and in the month of May, which is dedicated to Mary.
We would like to thank everyone for their generous donations of flowers that were placed beautifully at the feet of Mary in our service, and were then delivered to the Princess Alice Hospice in Esher.
Dance News!
Last week Jemima took part in the Surrey Hills Dance School event and was awarded her Stage 2 ISTD with a honours medal in Latin and Ballroom. It was a lovely night and some of the young dancers who demonstrated their skills were really sensational.
Equestrian News!
Last Saturday Electra competed with the St T’s teams at Coombelands. Riding Silver, they came 4th in the 60cms and 3rd in the 70cms
On Sunday she was riding Monty and came 3rd in 70cms and 2nd in 80cms out of 41 riders who were both adults and children. This was her first show on both these ponies!
One of our Prep parents would like us to share news about a new movement called Smartphone Free Childhood, spearheaded by two concerned mothers in the UK. This movement aims to spark a national conversation about the appropriate age for children to have smartphones.
Smartphone Free Childhood is a grassroots initiative striving to shift the current norm regarding when parents provide smartphones to their kids. Shockingly, 24% of 5-7 year olds in Britain now own smartphones, and by age 12, that number jumps to 97%. The impact of smartphones on children's mental health is now undeniable. Research indicates that the younger a child receives a smartphone, the more detrimental the effects on their well-being. They are urging parents, schools, government, and tech companies to collaborate and redefine the age criteria for smartphone ownership. Our stance is firm: smartphones with unrestricted internet access and social media are unsuitable for children under 16. A basic 'brick phone' suffices for their needs.

External Sporting Achievements
Over the weekend, Sophia N and her football team, where she plays up a year in the U12 Surrey league, have now won both the Surrey league and the cup! Well done, Sophia, you should be really proud of your achievement!
U11 Cricket
On Saturday the U11 team played in a tournament at Kempton Cricket Club where they played many local schools. The girls worked hard in their batting and fielding and were awarded first place based on the total number of wickets awarded over all the games. Great effort girls, well done!
U10 Cricket
On Tuesday the U10s travelled to St George’s for an afternoon of cricket in the glorious sunshine. In bat, they communicated well and on the field they displayed great teamwork and sportsmanship. There were some strong bowling performances, particularly by Jena and Emily who both bowled maiden overs. It would be great to see all the girls coming to bowling club on a Tuesday lunch time so we get a few more of these.

This Week
This week we completed our journey through the Resurrection appearance as we considered the experience of Thomas (John 20). Thomas famously was not there when the disciples first met Jesus in the Upper Room on that first Easter Sunday.
‘Unless I see the evidence, I wont believe!’ he tells the others. And so he has been known as ‘DoubtingThomas’ ever since - a title that he doesn’t really deserve!
Perhaps the first thing to notice are Jesus’ words to the disciples ‘Peace be with you!’ We are reminded that the first gift of the resurrection is peace, the peace that Jesus alone can give. In the resurrection the relationship with God, that had been irreparably damaged by the disobedience of Adam in the Garden (Genesis 2) has been restored. As we saw with Mary, that peace that was present at the very dawn of creation is now reestablished and available because Jesus has defeated sin and death forever.
Thomas comes across as amongst the most contemporary of characters, with his demand for empirical evidence of the resurrection. He reflects a very common view within society, known as scientism, that requires a scientific proof before anything can be believed. There are two big issues with this approach. Firstly, there is no scientific proof that the statement itself is true. This is all a bit philosophical, but the argument falls apart if it can’t be proven scientifically. Secondly, it just isn’t our experience. When we consider, for example, love, there is no scientific proof of it’s existence, yet we know, in both our hearts and minds, that it is true. The same is true of beauty and of what is good. There is a higher order of proof that goes beyond just the physical.
And finally we notice that Thomas lacks faith when he is apart from the community, yet comes to faith when he is within it. As John Donne reminds us ‘No man (or woman!) is an island.’ We born for community and only truly come alive within that context.
So ‘doubting’ seems an inappropriate appellation for Thomas who is the first to declare ‘my Lord and my God.’ Perhaps we should rather call him ‘Believing Thomas’ and then, more importantly, follow his example!
We hope that you all have had a good week, and we can’t believe that it is already May!
We are running lessons as normal on the Bank Holiday next Monday 6th. If you are booked in but cannot attend, then please can you cancel the lesson on the system, or inform the office so that we can cancel it for you.
