Dear Parents I wish to thank the CPA for running another very successful Picnic in the Paddock which was blessed with good weather. I am sure you will join me in congratulating those members of the 6th Form who received their Common Entrance results last Friday. It was another excellent year with all candidates meeting the requirements for the school of their choice. Last weekend I attended a performance of Tosca and it was a real joy to see Cranmore pupils on stage performing at such a high standard with a professional cast. This edition of the Chronicle has lots of sports news and also information on the many pupils who have been participating in our very own Young Musician of the Year Competition. Thankfully, we are expecting cooler weather today which will be most welcome as we are holding our Sports Day for the senior department. This morning we are also celebrating a special Mass for the children who have recently received their First Holy Communion.

LJ Class Assembly Lower Prep J retold the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle for their class assembly. The children dressed up as caterpillars and enjoyed singing, dancing and reciting rhymes. They showed their wonderful paintings of beautiful butterflies. It was delightful to see the children perform so confidently in front of an audience. Well done, Lower Prep J! Miss Jefford

Middle Prep Visit To Painshill Park The MP children had a brilliant time on their trip to Painshill Park last Friday. They went on a Dragon Quest and had to solve the mystery of the missing eggs by using their thinking skills. They were also able to experience team building activities and got to build dens and test to see if they were waterproof!

"We were called piglets and the real piglets were funny and the chicks were cute and the ponies were small. We tried feeding the sheep but they wouldn't come because it was too hot." Jimmy Downing
"Then we looked at the garden and the crops that were growing. We touched a mint leaf then we gave the cows a drink then we went on a tractor ride" Kobey Mack

5th at National Finals On Saturday 17th June, our U11 relay team competed at the National English Schools’ Swimming Championship, at Ponds Forge International Pool, in Sheffield. A magnificent achievement just to qualify, the pupils did themselves, the school and their families proud by gaining two 5th place finishes in both the Freestyle and Medley Relay. The team of T Agar, T Knocker, O Hogben and N Seeback swam their hearts out for Cranmore, in both the opening heats and the finals. Our times in both finals were: 1:01.78 Freestyle Relay and 1:08.57 Medley Relay. On the day, racing such big and prestigious schools such as Dulwich College, Kent College, Dulwich Prep and many more, we were always in a fight for a bronze medal. Our best chance was in the freestyle relay, where we came close. Thanks to Mr Donald for a terrific year of coaching and mentoring the team and also to Mrs Calpin for taking the pupils on the day! Golf Success at the Oratory School On Tuesday 13 June a team of 6 travelled to the Oratory School to complete in an U10 & U12 Golf Competition. Cranmore pupils performed very well on the day and came away with 3rd place overall. Special mention must go to M Towers who shot a 43 and D Finlayson who shot 45. A Kang, J Maylen, O Broadbelt and G Christiansen also played their part in what was a very successful afternoon. Mr Jakubowski

Cricket News Last week, Cranmore sent a squad of 6 boys to the first ever U10 6 a-side cricket tournament at Danes Hill. After a tentative start against Cumnor House, the team carried on winning matches including a last ball win over Danes Hill. The final was against Rokeby and Cranmore scored 54 runs off their 5 overs, a tough challenge at 11 an over. After some fine bowling from the whole team, Cranmore kept the score down to win comfortably. Well done to all the players and to their parents who supported so enthusiastically all day. Mr Mellstrom

Form 3 Ramble Form 3 completed a hilly 9½ mile ramble across the North Downs in lovely weather on Tuesday 13 June. Accompanied by a number of parents, the children walked in dry, pleasant conditions from Blackheath via St Martha’s Hill to Newlands Corner, where we stopped for lunch. Ice creams were the order of the day before we put our best foot forward on the final leg to Cranmore. Not only was it a great day out together, but some of the pupils chose to be sponsored and raised money for Cherry Trees and the Princess Alice Hospice. Thank you to Mrs Castle, Mrs Stanley, Miss Fagan and Mr Heaver for accompanying us and a big thank you, too, to the parents who joined us for the trek.
