Dear Parents This edition has plenty of news on recent sporting activities including swimming, skiing, tennis and, of course, a first for Cranmore which is NETBALL. The photos show the children having great fun playing on our brand new Multi-Use Games Area. There are also some splendid photos of our Bright Stars children having a wonderful time during the recent visit of the Fire Brigade. I know many parents have enjoyed the Music Department’s Open House this week in which there was an opportunity to observe the various peripatetic staff giving lessons across a wide range of instruments. On Wednesday at 5 pm we shall be hosting SING! This is an opportunity to hear our choirs in action We are also looking ahead to next Friday when we shall be hosting a live broadcast of the BBC radio programme: Any Questions? We are expecting some notable politicians on the panel which is sure to create some lively debate as we head towards a general election. Michael Connolly

Dear Parents We are always delighted to hear news of events and activities the children are participating in outside of school. This week we heard of three great achievements, some closer to home, others with a European flavour! Thomas and his team from Guildford Fireflies travelled to Paris and were the winners in their UII Ice Hockey tournament. Michael, Noah and Joshua, who is in our Junior Department, were also members of the winning team. They were undefeated throughout the whole championship, a magnificent achievement! James didn’t have to travel quite so far! He was competing in the English Primary Schools’ Chess Championship in Oldham. James played for the Surrey (Wey Valley) team, winning all three of his matches, again another great success. The team finished third in the overall competition. Finally we heard news of Freddie’s wonderful success in a triathlon event, held here in Guildford. He was in 6 th place after the water section and moved up to 2 nd place in the bike race, finally overtaking the boy in front of him to come in first in the boy’s race. Very well done and our warmest congratulations to all the children for all their fantastic efforts. It is always great to hear news of events and activities they are involved in away from school.

Bright Stars News This week we had some very special visitors in Bright Stars. The Cobham Blue Watch fire brigade came to see us – it was very exciting! We all sat in the fire engine and learnt about the special clothes the Fire-fighters wear. We had a go with the hose as well – it was very powerful!

SATIPS Ski Championships Monday Morning saw the Cranmore Ski team return to the Hemel Snow Centre to take part in the Satips Ski races. This was a chance for the racers to get off the plastic and compete on real snow, albeit artificially made! The U11 were defending their title and after some very close racing, including B Aldridge-Bate setting the two fastest times of the day, they retained their title. We entered two U14 teams. It was a chance for all to show their talents on the snow. Again, there was some very close racing and the Cranmore Ski Captain (C Barnes) set the fastest time of the day. However, in the end it wasn’t quite enough and they took silver. A big thank you to all the parents who always support the club and team, and especially Mr Williams who was responsible for most of the ski sharpening and waxing. Finally, thanks to Miss Wilkinson who was team manager for the day and ensured all the racers were ready to go at the right time. Mr Mellstrom Head of Skiing
