Dear Parents We are enjoying a particularly good spell on the sporting front. In this edition you can read about rugby, hockey, cross-country and rowing. On Wednesday we had further triumphs in our very own Rugby VIIs Tournament. Tomorrow we shall be hosting the Surrey Rugby Festival for some 48 teams which is sure to be a magnificent programme of sport. We offer our best wishes to our ski squad which has travelled to Italy for the British Interschool Races. Of course, Cranmore is not simply about sport. We are having some remarkable successes in the Godalming Festival and we are immensely proud of the exceptional performances given by our choirs. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

BBC Radio 4 Any Questions? to be broadcast live from Cranmore

On the evening of Friday 19 May Cranmore School will be hosting the Any Questions? Radio 4 live broadcast. Any Questions? includes topical discussion and questions to a panel of political and media personalities. We are waiting to hear from the producer about who will be on the panel that evening! The broadcast is strictly entry by ticket only and you will receive details shortly of how to apply for (free) tickets. I very much hope that some of our 5th & 6th form along with their parents will be in the audience and may even get to put their question to the panel! This is a first for Cranmore and promises to be an exciting evening. Best wishes, Susan Walker

MIDDLE PREP TRIP TO THE DISCOVERY CENTRE On Friday we went to The Discovery Centre. We had a little bit of time in the classroom and then we went on the coach. It was a big coach and it was a long drive. When we got there I saw lots of very clever things. My favourite thing was the workshop. First we went to the water zone and I got very wet. Next we went up the tower and I didn’t know how high we were. Coming down I was even more scared. Then we went to the building zone and it was fun. Then we went to the adventure playground. Then we had lunch. When we went to the workshop I liked it because I was a helper. Then we went back to school and obviously I want to go back! By Rowan Groenewald (Form MC)

Form One trip to the Roald Dahl Museum We were blessed with glorious weather for our trip to Great Missenden, home of famous author, Roald Dahl. After an introductory talk where we learnt some fascinating facts, we explored the museum, starting with the ideas station. There were plenty of opportunities to dress up as one of the characters from his books, create our own characters and story ideas and even sit in a replica chair and pretend to write stories, as he did. Then we visited the Boy Gallery where we learnt all about Roald Dahl's exploits at school and then the Solo gallery which described his experiences as a pilot during the Second World War and allowed us a glimpse of his famous writing shed. We were fortunate to have an exciting workshop where we thought of our own ideas for new and amazing chocolate bars. We chose the ingredients, decided who could eat the bar, what it would do and what it would be called. The bubble crunching scrumdiddlyumptious fudge delight was one idea dreamt up by our pupils for Mother's Day. I particularly liked the idea of eating one and being able to float in a large bubble. After lunch we left the grounds of the museum and followed the village trail which took us to several points of interest in the village, many of which provided inspiration for Roald Dahl and appeared in his books. The day ended all too quickly but we left with our heads full of ideas for our own stories and a greater appreciation of one of the world's great authors. Mrs Sinclair

Rugby Festivals Update We have had another busy couple of weeks on the rugby fields. The Under 10 squad had a successful day at the Donhead Festival remaining unbeaten. The Under 11 sevens squad nearly equalled this six days later, losing just once at the same venue. It was the Under 13 sevens squad, however, who were team of the week. They are beginning to reach their potential just in time for the Nationals 7's and demonstrated this by winning the Aldro 7's on Wednesday and the Thomas's Day Schools 7's on Saturday. More on this including photos can be found in the match reports section on the sports portal.

Rowers find out what it takes to be an Olympic Champion Last weekend, Paul Bennett visited us at Walton Rowing Club and gave an inspirational talk on what it takes to win an Olympic Gold. The highlight of his visit was to hold the gold medal he won last year as part of the GB eight crew at the Rio Olympics. Once the presentation was over, we wasted no time in getting out on the river to begin our quest for gold! Mr Martin Head of Rowing
