Dear Parents This week we have news of our Skiing success at Sandown, the magnificent performances of our cricketers to win the PhillipsTravers Trophy, the Sixth Form community service at Cherry Trees and the presentation of the cheque to CAFOD following the fundraising from Action Day. I was delighted to see so many of you in the audience for our Choral Concert on Wednesday. It was a fabulous programme with a wide range of musical styles which demonstrated the enormous vocal talent which our pupils have developed at Cranmore. The excitement is building this morning as we prepare to host the live BBC broadcast this evening for Any Questions? We shall welcome a distinguished panel whose members are sure to engage in some lively debates. If you are not attending in person (by prebooked ticket only), then please do tune in on Radio 4 at 8 pm. Michael Connolly

Dear Parents I had great pleasure in welcoming the new Head of the Junior Department, Mrs Fiona Nicholson, this week. We spent a day together in the first part of the ‘handover’ of the Junior Department. I am so delighted that everyone warmly welcomed Mrs Nicholson, especially the children. We spent a very productive day together. I feel completely reassured that I am handing over the huge responsibility of the care and education of your children to the perfect person for the job. If you were unable to meet Mrs Nicholson there will be plenty of opportunities at the beginning of the new academic year. This week we have also been trying to walk more in recognition of national ‘Walk to School Week’. Form 1 even measured the perimeter of the Paddock during their walk! MP, UP and Form 1 had a wonderful treat on Monday when the orchestra performed and informed us about their love of Music. If you were able to attend this event on Monday I am sure you will agree that the Senior pupils who addressed us were so impressive. LP, MP and UP are now preparing for the performances next week of ‘There’s a Sunflower in my Supper’. I really look forward to welcoming you to either or both shows on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th at 9.15am. Have a good weekend. Kindest regards Margaret Kieran Head of Junior Department

Congratulations to Kobey in Upper Prep who raised an amazing amount of £160 for Challengers last weekend by completing a 7 mile road ride in 50 minutes. Kobey said, "I want to raise money for Challengers so they can look after disabled children and help them have fun!". We are very proud of Kobey and warm heartedly congratulate him on his achievement particularly as this is his 6th charity sports event! Community Service Well done to our 6th Form, some of whom spent time at Cherry Trees last week, undertaking some community service work. They proved to be very competent at a variety of tasks from weeding and sweeping to washing minibuses and soft play equipment. Although the weather wasn’t particularly kind to them, their enthusiasm wasn’t dampened! Thank you 6th Form. Many thanks to Mr Hall and Mr Jakubowski for accompanying them.

2017 Phillips - Travers Trophy Our annual cricket fixtures against Rokeby in which we compete for the Phillips-Travers Trophy took place in the first week of May. Thirty teams and over three hundred pupils participated in the matches. The week started well for Cranmore with wins for the U11 A and C teams. The Seniors continued the success with a fantastic bowling performance from the 2nd XI and a well-timed run chase by the 4th XI ensuring that Cranmore led ten points to eight by the midway point. On the Thursday, the U8 matches at Rokeby were convincingly won and the U9 matches took place at Cranmore. Both the A and B teams played well but were unable to prevent a strong Rokeby year group levelling the scores going into the last day. A win and a draw by the U.10’s on the Friday would be enough to regain the trophy. This was achieved with the B team winning commendably and the A team securing a hard fought draw. The final total of 15 points to 14 meant that Cranmore have now been successful five times which equals the overall score between the schools. We now hold the Henkes Shield, Dunckley Shield and the Phillips-Travers Trophy. This is truly a whole school achievement. Well done to everyone involved and let’s try to keep the winning records coming for the rest of the season. Mr Down Head of Cricket

Showdown At Sandown Cranmore race team returned to Sandown last Sunday to defend the dual slalom title. The day was packed with lots of activities for all those attending including the new Skywalk. The U10 were first up and after some competitive racing the final was between Cranmore and Danes Hill. On a best of 3 runs, the Cranmore team won the first two to secure gold. In the U12 category, Cranmore had two teams entered, one on either side of the draw. With eleven teams entered it came down to Cranmore A and SPRC. With each team winning one race it came down to a final run. Cranmore were trailing by half a gate B Aldridge-Bate put in the ski of his life and overtook on the line. So that left the U14. Our Ski Captain C Barnes had pulled out with a broken finger, so a late substitution of J Mellstrom (an ex-Cranmore pupil) helped the team to pull off the triple and enable the Cranmore Ski Squad to remain unbeaten at the event. A big thank you to all the parents for supporting the club and helping out and Miss Wilkinson for managing the team so well on the day. Mr Mellstrom Head of Skiing
