Dear Parents We have enjoyed a very busy first week of term. You will have noticed the progress which has been made during the holiday on our car park project, particularly the Netball Court at the far end. As ever, there is a full calendar for this term and I know you will wish to attend key events such as the Future Schools’ Evening, the BBC Any Questions Broadcast and the CPA Picnic in the Paddock as well as various drama productions and Sports Days. Our car park development is not the only major project going on in Horsley. We are looking forward to the new Opera House which will be opened this Summer and is within walking distance of the school. We are delighted that several Cranmore pupils have been successful in their audition to perform in Tosca for the inaugural season of Grange Park Opera – what a thrilling prospect for our children. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

Lenten Challenge
It may seem a while ago now but during the season of Lent we encourage the children to try and do something to help those less fortunate. A Roberts, one of our third Year pupils, really took the message to heart and rose to the challenge! Alex decided that, rather than give something up, he would do something extra which was to walk a minimum of 10,000 steps a day for each day during Lent. Some days proved easier than others and there were times when Alex was on a treadmill in the late evening determined to make up the final steps! Alex never gave up, even on days when he found it very tough. As a result of his hard work and determination, he has raised ÂŁ316 for charity which Alex has decided to split equally between CAFOD and Cherry Trees. Very well done, Alex. Many congratulations on a wonderful achievement. Our Cranmore Community is very proud of you.

Music Department Open House Week Monday 8th May – Friday 12th May Parents of children who take individual instrumental music or singing lessons with the Visiting Music Staff are warmly invited to attend their child’s lesson during the above week. This will give parents a chance to talk to their child’s teacher and discuss progress and any concerns. Interested parents are asked to sign in at the office just before the start of the lesson and then make their way down to the Auditorium.

The children in Bright Stars really enjoyed Holiday Fun at Easter time. We went on trips to Hatchlands Park and Claremont Gardens. We also went to see the huge diggers working in the Cranmore car park. Look at us climbing in the driver’s seat!

British Interschools’ Ski Challenge This year, the Interschools' Ski Championship moved to the lovely ski resort of Pila, Italy, a resort that Cranmore knows well as we have skied there for the last three years on tour annual ski trip. The squad arrived a day early to give us a chance to train on the slopes and also for our trainer John Harris (ex GBR) to learn the resort. The weather was gorgeous which did lead to a lot of slush later in the day but with superb ski prep, lead by Trefor Williams and Graham Paton, the boys probably had the sharpest skis I have ever seen. The racing started early on the Monday morning with Giant Slalom for all. We had some great results but rounded off with 7th place for B Aldridge-Bate which was in fact 2nd place if you took out all the non-British School children. Day two was even hotter and the slalom, on a tight course, lead to a lot of competitors skiing out. It was a credit to the boys training, as well as the ski prep, that all of the Cranmore competitors finished their runs. I would like to say a big thank you to all the children and their parents for making this event so special. The Cranmore race squad continue to get great results. Mr Mellstrom Head of Skiing

Fun on the Slopes Just one day after the end of term, 52 pupils plus families and staff headed off to Pila in the Italian Alps for our annual ski trip. Once again we were fortunate in having superb snow conditions and excellent weather so we were able to make the most of every minute on the slopes. With small classes, rapid progress was possible and most of us could master nearly all the pistes by the end of the week. A ski holiday is not all about the skiing and we enjoyed tubing in the snow park, and ten pin bowling not to mention going out for real Italian ice cream and pizzas in Aosta. With the ski season now over, our thoughts are already turning to next year when we will once again be heading back to Italy. Mr Martin
