Dear Parents We have come to the end of another very successful term with high achievements in academic matters as well as music, sport and art. In particular, our pupils have racked up 20 scholarships to senior schools and been given several Common Entrance exemptions. This is a remarkable achievement which demonstrates the breadth of talent here as well as reflecting the tremendous commitment from these pupils too. Our major car park project is on schedule and we hope that the new netball court will be operational next term. I wish you and your family a most enjoyable Easter break. I hope our Ski Party have a fabulous time in Italy, I shall be on the slopes in France. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

BBC Radio 4 Any Questions? to be broadcast live from Cranmore
Ticket Information As you will know from last week’s Chronicle, Cranmore School will be hosting the Any Questions? Radio 4 live broadcast on Friday 19 May. The broadcast is strictly entry by ticket only and you will be able to apply for your free tickets to this event from Wednesday 19 April via email to office@cranmoreprep.co.uk Please state how many tickets you would like. Tickets will be sent out on a first come, first served basis after the closing date, Friday 5 May. In line with BBC guidance we will be making an additional number of tickets available to the local community and to the local political parties. I very much hope that some of our 5th & 6th form, along with their parents, will be in the audience and may even get to put a question to the panel! However, given the nature of the programme other children under the age of 14 are not permitted. This is a first for Cranmore and we look forward to some lively topical debate!
Best wishes, Susan Walker Deputy Head

Please take care in the car park Your children’s safety is paramount to us. In recent weeks two near misses have been reported to us where parents have lost sight of younger children, who have then run across the car park and behind moving cars. Thankfully, the vigilance of a staff member prevented any injury. However, please could I remind parents that you are responsible for your children in the car park. Younger children are not permitted to cross the crossing or walk along the pathway through the car park unless an adult is by their side. Thank you for your support on this matter. I wish you all a very happy and safe Easter break. Best wishes, Susan Walker Deputy Head

Bright Stars News Something very exciting happened in Bright Stars last week. Our chicks began to hatch! The eggs cracked in the incubator and the chicks came out. Aren’t they lovely? We have 4 chicks now!

Last Friday the Lower Prep children had a zootastic time! They had the opportunity to get close to the wonders of the natural world at Chessington Zoo. They journeyed through the jungle and came faceto-face with gorillas, lions, ocelots and tigers. They saw zebras, meerkats, hornbills, buffalos, otters, humboldt penguins and squirrel monkeys. At the Sea Life Centre they walked through the ocean tunnel and spotted rays and hammerhead sharks. The children splashed down to Sea Lion Bay to watch Harley and Dante perform in a show. There was a wonderful buzz of excitement throughout the day. Miss Jefford Assistant Head of the Junior Department

Barnardo’s National Choral Competition Final at the Royal Festival Hall Just the following day, thirty nine excited members of the Senior Chamber Choir accompanied by Miss Fourie, Mr Harris, Mr Hinds and Mr Martin, travelled to London for the Final of the Barnardo’s National Choral Competition at the Royal Festival Hall. The choir gave a brilliant competition performance of their two pieces and then enjoyed a little downtime before the evening concert. They attended a lunchtime jazz concert in the foyer which featured singer songwriter, Melissa James, enjoyed some ice cream and took a little stroll along the Thames before returning to the stage in the evening for a final performance. At this performance, the choir performed in front of a capacity audience, some 2,500 people. It was a truly memorable experience for all involved. Even though they did not bring back any silverware on this occasion, we are incredibly proud of our pupils and all they have achieved in the last few weeks.
