10th January 2020 Dear Parents Welcome to the first edition of the Chronicle for the new decade. As ever, it is packed with really interesting news and photos. We have enjoyed a very productive first week of term and I know that everyone is back into the rhythm of school life. However, we did receive some sad news on Monday. Gerry O’Connor, who served as a teacher at Cranmore for some 34 years until his retirement in 2012, passed away suddenly on Boxing Day. He was a real polymath, teaching subjects as diverse as Latin, RE, ICT and Art. He will be remembered with great affection by generations of former Cranmore pupils. I am sure you will pray for Gerry and his family. The calendar has all the information on forthcoming events but I would like to highlight the fact that the CPA will be hosting a Quiz Night on Friday 13th March. Do save the date! Yours sincerely,
Michael Connolly
Whole School News New Caterers at Cranmore
Pupils have been sampling some exciting new meals this week with the arrival of our new caterers, Harrisons. They have recruited Gary Nicks as the senior chef for Cranmore and he will be supported by Harrisons’ executive chef manager, Gary Harvey from St Teresa’s. Both individuals are highly-trained craft chefs with a passion for healthy, homemade food, using locally-sourced products where possible. Harrisons have also been very lucky to inherit a great kitchen team who are highly enthusiastic about the progressive changes.
Since its foundation in 1994, Harrisons’ priority has always been to provide quality fresh food prepared onsite and served by people who love what they do. Their goal is to instil a love and understanding of fresh, healthy food at a young age that will positively influence them throughout life.
The Harrisons team will be working closely with our school to tailor menus to the tastes and preferences of our students. They will be introducing further interest and excitement to menus through themed lunches and dinners ranging from holidays like Easter and Christmas to cuisines from around the world, tying these into the school curriculum whenever possible in a fun and stimulating way.

Sports News Sports Report I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and an enjoyable break. Of course, for many of you, the holidays finished with an exciting sporting event watching the Guildford Flames ice hockey team on Sunday evening. Over 100 Cranmore children with families attended the clash against Dundee Stars at the Guildford Spectrum, with many pupils having photos with the players. Thank you for supporting this event; details about a Harlequins rugby match against London Irish on the 15th February will be communicated soon.
This time of year brings change within the children's PE lessons. In the Senior Department, a second rotating block of four weeks has started, involving gymnastics, wall climbing, health-related fitness, hockey and racquets. Children have enjoyed the variety this week and seem very energised for the new term. Also, we have continued with our 'Movement Prep' at the beginning of lessons. Please encourage your child to watch the video on the VLE to become more familiar with the exercises. Many know the four-minute programme now and are seeing the benefits with their movement patterns.
It was fantastic to return to the school after the break to our fully floodlit astro and tennis courts. The multi-use surface was fully utilised on Tuesday with Year 4 after-school training. The floodlit area is another addition to our fantastic sports facilities at Cranmore.
The rugby season continued this week with several fixtures across the school, including very good U11 performances against Danes Hill on Tuesday.

Important Information
A very warm welcome back from the Nursing Team at Cranmore! As there are still a fair amount of winter illnesses around this time of year, please can we ask that children are only brought into school if they are fit and well. Just a gentle reminder that if your child has had any diarrhoea or vomiting, they must not return to school until 48 hours after the last episode. Your help and support with this matter is much appreciated so that we may minimise the spread of illnesses. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions.
