Message from the Headmaster Dear Parents, Pupils in Year 5 made the most of the sunshine this week by taking the opportunity to adapt two famous pieces of literature and rehearse outdoors during their drama lessons. Year 2 were working diligently rehearsing and perfecting their assemblies and they very much look forward to sharing their performances with parents through the VLE. Pupils were excited to demonstrate their artistic creativity as they took part in the Flip Art competition throughout the week. A selection of the most recent entries shows the interest from different year groups across the school as they continued to embrace the latest Samsung technology. Year 1 were inspired by the artist Henri Rousseau and proudly produced imaginative creations to put on display in their classrooms.

Congratulations to the U11 cricket team who won their Surrey Cup match. It was a nervous finish to the match but with a renewed focus on the accuracy of bowling and some courageous fielding, they progressed through to the next round of the competition. Year 3 and Year 4 pupils were equally determined to fine-tune their athletic skills in track and field events while the U9, U10 and U13 tennis teams hosted local schools at Cranmore with great success. During assembly, we highlighted to pupils the importance of appreciating their talents and importantly, the talents of others in our community. We recognise that we can reap greater rewards as a school if we open minds and hearts to collaborating to achieve our common goals. Have a lovely weekend. Mr Everitt

FLIP ART– The Digital Art Competition! -in association with Samsung and The Digital Line Technology, Programming and Engineering are very important at Cranmore and pupils learn an exceptional array of skills from robotics, 3D printing, programming and web design to visiting new worlds and creating resources in virtual reality. Cranmore is also planning a major new STEM building as part of this drive for 21st Century learning. Pupils and staff are all excited to be working with The Digital Line in collaboration with Samsung on the ‘Flip Art’ competition and find many synergies, especially with regards to pushing the boundaries of what technology is capable of and how it can positively impact education. This page shows the gallery of Cranmore’s artwork, submitted in the competition! See more on the link: https://www.thedigitalline.co.uk/cranmore-school-leatherhead/

Year 5 Drama skills Here are some photos of Year 5 drama lessons this week. They are rehearsing a play that merges together two very well-known pieces of literature, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. It follows Harry Ring’s and Mojo’s quests to return the Goblet of Youth to the Rock of Ages and be granted ultimate power and everlasting youth. We seized the opportunity of the beautiful weather to rehearse outside.

We named the different parts of the computer and practised using a mouse to control the screen. We enjoyed making different aliens using the drag and drop skill with the mouse. We are also learning how to use the paint program and to write a few words using the keyboard. Mrs Hobdell and Mrs Stefano, Reception Teachers

Cranmore Nursery study minibeasts and enjoy camp fire In Nursery this week, the children have been continuing to enjoy the topic on minibeasts. They went on a lovely walk using magnifying glasses and tally charts to record which minibeasts they found. They enjoyed a fire at Forest School, where they toasted crumpets and nettle crisps. They made bubble wands from wood. In Pre-Nursery they had a lovely walk over the bridge and had fun rolling down the hill! Ms Luke, Head of Nursery

A Message from our Chaplain A reading from the Gospel of Matthew Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw Him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in Heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” The Gospel of the Lord

Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ

The Ascension and the great commission In the reading this week we hear how Jesus ascended to heaven and gave the great commission. He told the disciples that they must go out, be brave, enter the world and take His Love to others. We are reminded that we are all called to be missionaries- or light carriers.

We can carry God's light to others by doing small acts of kindness. Each one of us has a role to play in God's Kingdom. Let us go out, share the talents we have and know that God's love Is with us.
