7 MARCH 2022 Message from the Headmaster
We began this week celebrating International Women’s Day and focused our attention on commemorating the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women throughout the world. Our assembly by 4MP incorporated the importance of recycling and we will be announcing our new eco-council next week. The Rocking Romans drama presentation on Wednesday was one of the highlights of the week. Our Year 5 pupils were exceptional at giving an educational insight and hilarious overview of the history of the Romans in Britain. Having been at the IAPS conference last Friday, I thoroughly enjoyed reviewing the photographs from World Book Day in this week’s edition and was tremendously impressed with the array of costumes and characters. Many congratulations to the rugby teams which took part in the Surrey Competition. The U10 team were Surrey champions and the U11 team finished third out of the twenty teams involved. Well done to the U13 team who were runners-up at a local competition held at Feltonfleet. I have also been incredibly impressed with the pupils’ fund-raising for our local charity Cherry Trees. They took part in swimathons which have raised over £2,000. This weekend, I will be brushing off a thick layer of dust from my boots to play in a ‘Legends’ Ireland v England charity match to be held at the Twickenham Stoop. I know that several Cranmore families will be in attendance. Thank you for wishing me luck as it will undoubtedly be needed.
Mr Everitt
Rocking Romans Drama Production The Year 5 pupils performed a dramatisation of a whistle-stop tour of the history of Romans in Britain. They were brought together to tell the story through a montage of scenes, evoking laughter and celebration. They learnt that we have many things to thank the Romans for! Pupils’ spirits were lifted through the experience of a live performance to their wonderful, supportive families and we will see many of them excitedly treading the boards again! Well done for delivering an entertaining performance. Mrs Hanson, Head of Drama
World Book Day Activities in Upper Prep and Seniors During ‘World Book Day’ week, pupils participated in a ‘Guess the Teacher’ competition, in which teachers’ faces were obscured by a favourite (or clue-giving) book. The discussions about the books (as well as potential clues in the backgrounds of the photographs) prompted debate and amusement! The winner was Ben T in Year 5. Some enterprising pupils challenged themselves further by entering a ‘Guess Who's Coming To World Book Day Lunch’ competition, deducing book characters and titles from images of food and objects. Luka B, Toby F and Lucas O in Year 4 took first place. We had some beautiful entries in our ‘Decorate an Object competition’, which was won by Barnaby H in Year 6, with a creative coat hanger mobile representing 'Swarm Rising' by Tim Peake and Steve Cole. The winners received a certificate, book tokens and an edible treat. Very well done to all those who took part, and particularly our winners! Mr Lamport and Mrs Morgan
World Book Day Activities in Lower Prep and Nursery Lower Prep pupils had an amazing time celebrating World Book on Friday 4th March. We started with a Lower Prep assembly where the children (and teachers!) paraded their costumes for everyone to see. The Nursery and Reception children enjoyed a wonderful story, read by Mrs Prothero as Mary Poppins, and they also enjoyed showing each other their costumes as the EYFS. Across years 1 -3 there were numerous activities throughout the day, including a book swap, writing book reviews, designing a book cover and trying to find the hidden golden tickets. Finally, we enjoyed seeing pupils’ creative and imaginary skills in turning ordinary wooden spoons into their favourite book characters. Thank you for all your efforts in making the day such a special event. Miss Gallop, Head of Lower Prep School
World Book Day Activities in Lower Prep We were amazed at the creativity and imagination of the children in the Lower Prep, who created these wooden spoon characters for World Book Day. Can you guess who they all are?
International Women’s Day To mark International Women’s Day, pupils in Year 5 enjoyed conducting research on renowned female mathematicians in their maths lesson this week. They created short presentations which they presented to their classmates. They learnt about the ‘butterfly effect’ in which a small change, such as the flapping of a butterfly’s wings, can lead to dramatic changes on the other side of the world, such as a hurricane!
Mr Savvides, Head of Maths
This week’s House Cup winners Congratulations to Tylor House in the Lower Prep and Borelli House in the Upper Prep and Seniors for gaining the highest number of merits this week!

Nursery News The Nursery children have been very busy in the garden this week, planting courgettes, peas, beans and spinach in preparation for our Nursery vegetable patch. They have enjoyed learning how to form numerals 1 to 10 using the Purple Mash program on the interactive whiteboard. Our topic is ‘Growing’ and we have been looking closely at the human body and in particular the skeleton. They enjoyed piecing together the skeleton in Science, making a vegetable skeleton for their snack and, finally, learning all about the various bones in their outdoor Yoga session! Ms Luke, Head of Nursery
Music News Bravo to the Cranmore Brass Group who performed ‘The Flintstones’ with a real sense of style in assembly on Monday!
Sports Roundup Last Saturday, our Under 10 and Under 11 rugby teams did superbly well and went undefeated at the 2022 Surrey Age Group Rugby Festivals. The U8s and U9s also competed on Friday and performed admirably. The U13 1st XII lost only one match at the Feltonfleet Rugby 7s which also took place on Saturday morning. Hockey matches have been played across all year groups against schools including Danes Hill, Cranleigh, Hoe Bridge and Feltonfleet. Senior Scholarship and Performance early morning sessions continued this week with lower body conditioning and cricket nets being the focus. Pupils from Reception to Year 6 have been raising money for the charity Cherry Trees, by participating in swimathons during their swimming lessons. The latest total raised is over £2,000.
