Junior Maths Week

Science Week

Temperature Extremes Science Week in the seniors involved experiments with extreme temperatures. The Sixth Form bravely investigated combustion, using methane bubbles which burn at just under 2000oC. Meanwhile things were a bit cooler in Form 3 Science lessons, where we had fun investigating dry ice sublimation. Dry ice is -78oC, so putting it in boiling water produces fantastic effects!

Seniors Max M in F4 had an exciting time competing for his swimming club, Guildford City, in the National Arena league finals in Cardiff. Max was selected as junior captain before the event with his team finishing third overall. They also won the relay challenge and Max set a personal best time for 50 metres (long course) of 31.33 seconds. Well done, Max!

Cranmore has swept the board with first and second places in the first round of this year’s Rotary Young Writer competition. In the Junior Category, Form 4 pupils Hugo and Cameron were first and runner up respectively while Adrian’s entry was Highly Commended. My thanks go to all those Cranmore pupils who entered. The results of the District Round are due to be announced at the end of March.

Sports Focus The fantastic hockey season has continued over the last week with matches taking place across all year groups. The pick of the bunch was the whole year group U9 matches against Danes Hill and the four U10 sides versus Parkside. The outstanding hockey on display produced fantastic results across both year groups (see SOCS for scores). The Surrey Junior Rugby Festivals took place last Thursday (U8/U9) and Friday (U10/U11) at KCS Wimbledon. The U8 and the U10 sides had very successful afternoons only losing one game each out of six. The U13 rugby sevens side competed at the Feltonfleet Festival. The team improved throughout the day and gained valuable experience leading into the Nationals in a couple of weeks time. The squash squad represented the school on Friday evening whilst hosting CLFS. With two age group draws and the U11s winning, Cranmore took the overall victory in a fantastic series of matches. On Monday our netball club had a great joint training session with The Raleigh School. There was plenty of skill development on show with lots of smiles on faces. Finally, we wish our skiing squad all the best as they head to Pila (taly), for British Inter-Schools Ski Championships. Good luck! *A reminder: The whole school event: London Irish vs Ealing Trailfinders, Saturday 27th April. For any questions: londonirish@cranmoreprep.co.uk *

A super performance from this young musician during assembly of ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King’ by Grieg. Bravo, Josh!

Drama On Wednesday 6th March, Form 2 performed a spectacular ‘Matilda, the musical’ to a very supportive audience of parents and pupils. They sang "Revolting Children", "Bruce" and "Naughty", whilst confidently narrating and performing the story of a girl who just wanted to learn.

World Book Day 2019 The whole school celebrated World Book Day on Friday 8 th by dressing up as a book character. An enormous amount of fun was had and the costumes were exceptionally creative.

Lower and Middle Prep classes were treated to a visit by a local author, Nicola Rowley. My favourite quote of the day was from one of the children, who said, “At home I write my own stories, so I can be an author!” I think many of the children felt inspired to become either authors or illustrators following Nicola’s talk. She discussed the inspiration behind her books and encouraged the children to never give up saying, “If you dream it, you can achieve it!” Other activities took place throughout the school including competitions in the Senior Library, bookmark-making and sharing a book with other year groups in the Junior department.

Overall, our celebrations of World Book Day demonstrated the children’s incredible love of reading throughout the school!
