We had a fantastic 11+ Sports Scholarship Assessment day on Wednesday, with many internal and external candidates attending. It was a busy morning of sport, giving a taster of what the Sports Scholarship Programme will be like. The standard across the various sports was very high and all pupils should be proud of their efforts. Plenty of rugby matches have taken place over the last week across various age groups, including against Downsend, Danes Hill, Worth, Shrewsbury House and Feltonfleet. I would like to give a special mention to our U13 1st XIII, who are playing superb rugby at present and have been in superb form since returning from the Christmas break. Pupils have really enjoyed the return of co-curricular clubs this week which involves many sports. The list includes, but is not limited to: Chelsea Football; Harlequins Rugby; Skiing; Table Tennis and Badminton; Judo; Ballet; Gymnastics; Netball; Hockey; Fencing; Smart-Sport; Cross-Country; Swimming Improvers; Tennis; and Squash. As proudly mentioned before in the Chronicle, Cranmore has been selected as one of the 'Top 50 Cricket Schools' in the country by The Cricketer magazine. Library News Forthcoming Author Visit and World Book Day News On Tuesday 25th February, we are planning an exciting event for children in Reception to Year 2. Chloe Inkpen, author and illustrator of a wonderfully wide range of picture books, will be visiting Cranmore to talk to the children about her books.
Chloe is a hugely talented author/illustrator and we are delighted to have secured a visit by her. She will be talking to the children about finding inspiration for their own writing and also enthusing them about the joy of reading. This will support the literacy work that we do in school and we hope it will prove to be a stimulating experience for the children.
Parents of children in Reception to Year 2 have received a letter about the visit, with the opportunity to pre-order one of Chloe’s books for her to sign on the day. Please email your orders to sian.watkinson@cranmore.org by Friday 31st January.
Dressing up for World Book Day
On Thursday 5th March, we will be celebrating World Book Day in school with several activities, including dressing up as a book character for the day. More information will follow on this over the coming weeks, but you may like to start thinking about costumes!
