Message from the Headmaster Dear Parents, There were some exceptional musical performances on Monday morning during assembly from our senior pupils. Firstly, on the Double Bass and later, our Head Chorister sang, ‘All things bright and Beautiful’. I had the pleasure of witnessing the Year 2 pupils freeing butterflies as part of their understanding of the insect lifecycle. After a number of weeks observing the metamorphosis from caterpillars, the girls and boys were delighted to release the butterflies into their natural habitat. In Friday’s assembly, we focused on the attribute perseverance which was timely as the everchanging weather

threatened to bring our cricket fixtures to a halt. However, in true Cranmore sprit, the staff and pupils endured and competed courageously ending in numerous successes on the cricket square against local schools. We are extremely proud to be able to show our wonderful school to prospective parents this weekend. Our first Open Morning of the Summer term is fully booked and of course, we have in place protocols to continue keeping everyone safe. Similarly, our second Open Morning, in June, is now oversubscribed so we have had to create a tour waiting list. I am delighted to be able to display our incredible facilities to so many new families before the start of the next academic year. Mr Everitt

Exceptional musical performances It was wonderful to hear our Head Chorister, Adrian G (Year 8) sing the beautiful ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’ by Rutter in assembly on Monday– photo below. It was also a delight to hear two double bass players perform during whole school assembly on Friday – William K and Austin B in 7MH– photo left. The fifteen visiting music staff at Cranmore teach a huge range of instruments, including double bass. Parents should contact Mrs Thornton (LP) or Mr Harris (UP and Seniors), if they would like their child to start singing or playing instrumental lessons in September. Mr Harris, Director of Music

Year 4 Science -pupils study habitats Year 4 have been studying Habitats and Animal Adaptations. They carried out an investigation into the preferred habitat of woodlice and looked closely at how woodlice have adapted to living where they do. Mrs Attree, Science Teacher

Year 2 study caterpillars emerging as butterflies from chrysalises Year 2 loved releasing their butterflies today! We have been watching the transformation of caterpillars to butterflies and this week we released the butterflies. We have loved looking after our baby caterpillars for the last 4 weeks. We named them, observed the changes and learnt a lot about their life cycle. We were so excited this week when the butterflies started emerging from their chrysalises; we fed them and, when they were strong enough, we decided to release them. We decided on the best place to let them free.

Reception build rafts and bridges We have had a very creative week building rafts and bridges for ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. It was lovely to get outside too! This week Reception have learned the story of 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. We thought about how the goats crossed over the river by bridge and asked them if they could think of a different way to cross a river. We had some amazing suggestions from helicopters and sea planes to stilts! The children were then challenged to design and build a raft that would carry the goats across the river. This task was greeted with great enthusiasm and all the children designed and made their rafts independently. Mrs Hobdell and Mrs Stefano, Reception Teachers

Reception test their creations outside! The Reception children really enjoyed the opportunity to test their rafts and bridges in the water trays outside. We were very impressed with their enthusiasm, creativity and originality in this task. Some children chose to continue their building skills by designing strong bridges for the goats to cross the river. We also thought of new characters that might be lurking underneath! Cranmore Nursery practise their colour matching and scissor skills and enjoy our Oxford Reading Tree books! In Nursery this week the children have been colour matching; at Forest School they had to search for a flower or a leaf to go in the correct colour boxes on their sheets. The children have also enjoyed looking at the Oxford Reading Tree books in small groups, discussing the characters and what they think is happening in the pictures. They have all been keen to practise their scissor skills to create collages. Ms Luke, Head of Nursery

A Message from our Chaplain A reading from the Gospel of John I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of Your name, the name You gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name You gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled. The Gospel of the Lord Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus remains with us In the reading this week we hear how Jesus reminds the disciples that He will be with them, walking by their side. We must never give up, even when life is difficult and uncertain. The disciples must have been a little unsure when Jesus ascended to Heaven and they were left alone. Yet it was not the end, God had new things in store.

Nick Vujicic was born without limbs. He often thought life was difficult and sometimes felt like giving up. But with God's help he learnt to see that God had a plan and a purpose for his life.
