27 SEPTEMBER 2021 Message from the Headmaster On Saturday morning, we hosted over 120 families from other schools at our Cranmore U8 and U10 football events. Cranmore pupils in Year 3 and 5 showed exceptional talent and commitment reaching the final and semi-final respectively. It was a tremendous team effort by everyone involved. Thank you to all the pupils, parents and staff in attendance. I thoroughly enjoyed the assembly presentation by 3CS on Wednesday morning and the theatrical performance of the Emperor’s Story. The pupils acknowledged that sometimes it can be challenging to follow our Golden Rule of honesty, however, it is of the utmost importance in our Cranmore community. Music has a strong tradition at Cranmore and benefits include enhancing memory skills and boosting selfconfidence. The number of pupils across the school who have auditioned to join choirs has been impressive. Thank you to the music department for offering a range of choirs to support wide participation amongst our pupils.

Year 6 pupils met this week with leader of Guildford Borough Councillor, Mr Bigmore. After an insightful and informative presentation, the pupils were able to ask questions about their local area, government structures and council funding for future projects. They certainly understood the determination, drive and resilience needed to make changes in our community and appreciated that these aspects of our value of Character are vitally important as we make our way through life. We will be welcoming a record number of families to our Open Day on Saturday and the school will be looking its very best. I am very grateful to the pupils who have been asked to assist, giving up part of their weekend. I know they will be excellent ambassadors for our school. Mr Everitt

Learning about the church in Year 1

Year 1 pupils have been learning about churches and what we find inside them. We know the cross is important as it reminds us of Jesus.

Fun through Science and books in Nursery In our Science session this week the children learnt all about liquids and solids. They experimented with mixing cornflour and water.

They enjoyed their trip to the library where they listened to a story and chose books to take home.

STEM Club in action Year 7 and 8 pupils have been using the Microbits, prototyping plates, breadboards and edge connectors to build and code a series of experiments. They are using both Microsoft MakeCode and Python to code experiments to use a phototransistor as a sensor and using accelerometers to control motor speeds. Mr Hinds, Head of ICT

Politics talk for Year 6 On Tuesday, Mr Bigmore, Councillor and leader of Guildford Council, visited our Year 6 pupils to give a presentation about how local government works and what a career in politics entails. This topic is currently being studied in the pupils’ PSHE lessons, so they were able to put their knowledge to the test. Mr Bigmore spoke about resilience and the risks which he took on his journey into politics. This fits in well with our school value for this year: Character. The pupils found it a very informative and enjoyable talk. Mr O’Neill, Head of PSHE

Year 5 pupil rocks in Assembly!

Congratulations to this David L who gave a superb performance of ‘Uptown Funk’ during Monday’s Upper Prep and Senior Assembly.

Year 2 at Forest School Year 2 had a wonderful afternoon in Forest School this week making dens, exploring and finding signs of Autumn, creating their own tie-dye using blackberry juice, playing games, balancing on ropes and relaxing in the hammocks!

Sports Roundup Congratulations to our swim squad who were the winners over Parkside in our first gala of the year. We held our U8 and U10 football tournaments at Cranmore on Saturday in which our U8 team made the finals. Over 120 players with 150 parents were attendance which made for a fantastic morning of football. Congratulations also go to Jackson B who has qualified at Hickstead for the Supreme Championships. It is great to see our Year 7 & 8 progressing well on the water as part of our rowing programme. Thank you to Mr Everitt who made a guest appearance at our Scholarship and Performance session this week. Mr Hodgson Director of Sport
