27 JUNE 2022 Message from the Headmaster

It has been an action-packed final few weeks at Cranmore. Last Friday we had the Proms in the Paddock. It was a wonderful performance by the pupils and it was lovely to welcome so many parents and grandparents to our school. Over the weekend, Year 7 pupils enjoyed the opportunity to stay at the National Outdoor Centre in Snowdonia where they pushed themselves on the mountain climbs and thrived in the gorge scrambles. After all the activity of the trip, they returned to school at 9.30pm on Sunday night, with many of them showing the embedded resilience they had developed by being back at school for an 8.00am start the following morning.

On Wednesday, we celebrated Founder’s Day with Mass in the morning. I was delighted to welcome parents, governors and friends of Cranmore to the service. A barbecue meal was in store for the pupils at lunchtime and in the afternoon the Henderson Fields were busy with fun games and activities.

Two fantastic performances of Bugsy Malone concluded the week with pupils displaying their musical and dramatic talents to packed audiences. By Friday night, it is certainly time to take a rest before the annual Crancamp tents are pitched on Saturday evening. I hope the weather is on our side!

Mr Everitt

Year 6 Trip to Rugged Earth Adventures Year 6 enjoyed their day out at Rugged Earth Adventures on Friday 17th June. They had great fun taking part in nerf gun battles, roasting marshmallows over a campfire and building traps. Mr Chapman

Year 6 Ramble Year 6 tackled an 11-mile ramble from Coldharbour to Cranmore via Leith Hill on Wednesday 22nd June, climbing over 1000 feet in the process. There were some beautiful views as they traversed the North Downs. Here they are, pictured towards the end of the walk. Mr Chapman

Year 4 Residential in Liddington Last week, Year 4 spent three sun-soaked and fun-filled days at the PGL Centre in Liddington. This was our first experience of a residential and it was very exciting for us all to be away from home, trying new experiences and making memories together. We enjoyed a wide range of activities including abseiling, climbing, archery and the giant swing. I was particularly impressed by the teamwork involved in climbing 'Jacob's Ladder', which required a willingness to put the team's success above individual achievement. Both our evenings were also filled with activities, including songs and stories around a campfire. At the end of the three days, we arrived back at school tired, but with lots of stories to tell. Thank you, Year 4, for being such a lovely year group to take away. Ms Hart, Head of Year 4

Values Week: Character As part of Values Week, students from both the Upper Prep and Senior School had the opportunity to embark on an exciting Art project that encompassed this year’s central value of ‘character’. Working onto a variety of wooden disks, labels and letters, as well as considering key terms that can define one’s character, all students approached this project with great enthusiasm. This collaborative installation will soon form a central feature within the Main Reception area. Well done to all students involved. The overall artwork is fantastic! Here is a display from our library on ‘Character’. Which fictional or real-life character is the best example of good character in your opinion?

Finally, here are some photos of Year 4 and their posters to describe their characters, which they produced in their French lessons last week.

This Week’s House Cup Winners

Congratulations to Bowen House in the Lower Prep and Tylor House in the Upper Prep and Seniors for gaining the highest number of merits this week!

Year 3’s Final Visit to Forest School Year 3 visited Forest School for the last time on Thursday. They made the most of it and had a marvellous time exploring and having fun. They used a fire steel to make sparks to start a fire. We also celebrated by toasting marshmallows on the fire and having s’mores – what a treat! Mrs Sinclair

Year 1 Trip to Forest School Year 1 had their last Forest School visit of the school year today. They roasted marshmallows on an open fire, played with slime, fired water guns at a target, made cupcakes in the mud kitchen and played on the ropes. It was a fabulous morning! Mrs Bowen

Music News Well done to the members of the orchestra, who played the 'Match of the Day' theme brilliantly during assembly. Pupils are invited to join this group once they have achieved Grade 3 on their instrument.

Mr Harris, Director of Music

It was a delight to be able to finally have an ‘in person’ concert for my pupils this year. Held in the lovely Evelyn Hall in Abinger Common, Max, Samuel, Henry, Thomas, Elizabeth and Nick were among those who performed solos to an enthusiastic audience of parents and families. Nancy Daly, Recorder Teacher

Nursery News In Pre-Nursery the children really enjoyed exploring different instruments and sounds. They had great fun making mud pies and cakes in the Mud Kitchen. The Nursery children enjoyed sensory play in the tuff tray which was set up to reflect our topic ‘Under The Sea.’ The children said a final farewell to our butterflies and watched them being released in the garden. Ms Luke, Head of Nursery

Sports Roundup In the past week, cricket has been played against Downsend, KCS Wimbledon, Rokeby, Feltonfleet, Northcote Lodge and Donhead. In tennis, our opponents have been RGS Prep and Donhead. Athletics, tennis and PE has continued, as well as water survival and rescue in swimming lessons.

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team

St Peter & St Paul

Thought for the week: How will you live out your faith? We pray together... Saints Peter and Paul, Please pray for us and help us obtain the strength to stand up for what is right and good. Amen. REFLECTION On 29th June, the Church celebrates the feast day of two great saints, Saint Peter and Saint Paul. On this day, we celebrate their memory. At the heart of their story is not their own gifts and abilities; at the centre is the encounter with Christ that changed their lives. Let us Pray:

Our Father Hail Mary 1 minute silence

“Peter and Paul bequeath to us the image of a Church entrusted to our hands, yet guided by the Lord with fidelity and tender love, for it is He who guides the Church.”

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
