21st SEPTEMBER 2020

Message from the Headmaster This week, our pupils have been extremely busy. Our Nursery pupils at Forest School made flags using the resources from the natural environment and Year 2 creatively built wonderful 3D castle models. On Monday, in the glorious sunshine, the Year 4 pupils were actively involved in team-building activities, while our Year 7 and 8 rowers were once again back on the water at Walton Rowing Club. In the classroom, we are celebrating European Day of Languages which will include a virtual assembly. We are delighted to offer French, Spanish and Latin lessons here at Cranmore. As the weather begins to change and we make minor alterations to the provision at drop-off and pick-up, please continue to be vigilant and mindful when using the car park. Please only use the footpath and avoid crossing the road between cars. If you need to walk your child to an area on-site, I kindly ask that you park in a space in the half of the car park nearest the exit gate rather than parking in the drop-off zones. Our grounds staff are there to guide you if you need any assistance and to ensure that everyone remains safe at the beginning and end of the day. I appreciate all the help and assistance everyone has given over the initial few weeks of term; the Cranmore community has done extremely well in supporting each other.

Mr Everitt

Nursery’s adventures in nature Our youngest pupils have been busy creating flags and pictures using materials inspired by or found in our fabulous natural environment. They have been investigating the properties of wood in their Science sessions.

Year 2 make beautiful 3D castles Year 2 are working hard on their teamwork as they build 3D castles for their Castles topic. Castles are part of our history as well as our Art and DT curriculum. Year 2 will go on to paint their castles, so look out for the next update!

Year 4 team-building afternoon Our Year 4 pupils were blessed by glorious sunshine on Monday afternoon for their team-building session. They learnt to use their bodies to make the word TEAM and then worked as a year group to produce rhythms with their voices and body movements, led by the engaging Mr Harris.

Languages at Cranmore Our pupils have the opportunity to learn both modern and ancient languages at Cranmore. French is taught from Reception upwards, Spanish from Year 6 and Latin from Year 7. On Monday, we will be celebrating the European Day of Languages with a virtual Assembly.

Our new Latin Club is starting this week for Years 7 and 8. This will be an opportunity to learn more about the wider background of the Romans, including the emperors, Roman Britain and Roman mythology.

Year 7 learn about Greek theatre in their Drama lesson Year 7 took advantage of the stunning weather to go outside to learn about Greek theatre, focusing on the staging and the role of the chorus.

Sports Reminders Rain or shine, sports lessons for Year 4 upwards will always take place outside. Pupils must have a change of clothing in school on the days they participate in sport, particularly in periods of adverse weather.

PE rotations start next week for these age groups which include racquets, health-related fitness and hockey. Pupils who are participating in hockey for the next three weeks will need their mouth guards.

Pupils in Year 2 upwards should have their shin pads, boots and water bottles with them for their PE and Games lessons.

House Polo Shirts Larger sizes of House Polo shirts are now available, including for those pupils in Year 7 and above.

A message from our Chaplain A Reading from the Book of Genesis

The Lord had said to Abraham, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.  I will make you into a great nation,  and I will bless you;  I will make your name great,  and you will be a blessing.  I will bless those who bless you,  and whoever curses you I will curse;  and all peoples on earth  will be blessed through you.”  So Abraham went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abraham was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran.  The Word of the Lord Thanks be to God Reflection Monday was the Feast of St Matthew who was called by God to change from being a Tax Collector to being a disciple. We may sometimes feel that God will not use any of us. But even though we are not perfect, God can use us if we are open to His will.
