Dear Parents I know you will have enjoyed reading The Cranmorian which was issued before the holiday. I am grateful to the Editor, Mrs Wort, for producing another stunning edition which is a window on life at Cranmore. We are looking forward to our traditional block fixture against Rokeby for the Henkes Shield tomorrow, one of the most long-standing competitions between two prep schools. In the evening there will be further excitement as the CPA host our Firework Party. As ever, we want all visitors to have a wonderful time but please be mindful of guidelines which have been issued to ensure everyone’s safety. In recent years, several Surrey Prep Schools have decided to abandon their provision for 11-13+ education. You may be aware that another local school has announced this week that it will be following this trend. For the avoidance of doubt, at Cranmore we believe there is immense value in the 11-13+ experience and we have no plans to withdraw this provision. I look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow at Rokeby or at the Fireworks. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

Keeping your children safe Dear Parents Now that the evenings are getting much darker please could I remind you that children finishing clubs or coming out of senior Late Class at 5.00pm should be collected from the area outside the Lower Prep classrooms. Parents are respectfully asked not to wait in the car park, but to come and meet your children from the designated area. Many thanks for your understanding. Best wishes Susan Walker Deputy Head

Action Day 2017 From pianists to comedians and actors to singers, Senior Action Day had it all. There was an impressive variety in the acts which were produced by the senior pupils and I was very impressed by the level of thought and preparation which had gone into many of the performances. The sponsorship money is now rolling in to the Form teachers and I hope that we will be in a position to send a generous donation to both CAFOD and MISSIO. Thank you for your support. Richard Harris

Owls in the Art Room! A Parliament of Owls is beginning to form in the Art Room. We aim to make 50 owls by the end of the year to represent 50 years of wisdom and knowledge being imparted by Cranmore education. Although initially conceived as a group project for the 2nd Form, the 5th and 6th Form have been vital in untangling wool and have welcomed the repetitive nature of woolly ball-making as a wonderful stress buster. We hope to sell the final 50 owls for charity during the Summer Term. Any wool donations would be most welcome. Susie Darnton

We had lots of fun in our Bright Stars Holiday Fun weeks, enjoying lots of different Autumn activities. The children took part in pumpkin races, using wheelbarrows to transport them around the garden. They also had a selection of pumpkins to roll down the mound and enjoyed anticipating which would go furthest. We had an Autumn leaf day too! The children collected different leaves to make a ‘Leafman collage’ after reading the story together. We are looking forward to seeing the fireworks at Cranmore on Saturday and coming to Bright Stars dressed in our pyjamas next Wednesday!

Lower Preps’ Trip to Nower Wood On Friday 10th October, Lower Prep enjoyed a wonderful trip to Nower Wood on a ‘Badger’s Day Out’. We learnt all about badgers and their habitats and went searching for minibeasts in the Forest. We experienced what it would be like to be a nocturnal animal and did a blindfolded trail through the trees. We had great fun pond dipping and identifying which creatures we had found. Back at the cabin, we were able to look at all the pond life in fantastic detail under the video microscope. We had a fantastic day!
