Cranmore Chronicle 22 March 2019 Editor: Mrs S Connolly
Dear Parents This edition has a real feast of articles on sport, music and drama which includes accounts of several remarkable individual achievements. Two particular highlights for this week took place yesterday. Our youngest pupils entertained us in the Nursery Mothers’ Day Celebration. Last night we had another marvellous Spring SoirÊe in which we enjoyed an outstanding number of musical performances. Looking ahead, we shall be hoping for good weather on Thursday when we shall be hosting the Junior Dept. Sports Exhibition.
Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

Sports Focus Wow! We have had the most amazing response to our open invite to attend the London Irish match on Saturday 27th April. 180 Cranmore children will be forming the 'Guard of Honour' on the pitch before the match and in total, including Cranmore families, over 400 will be attending on the day! Due to the demand, the school are providing two more coaches for those who have requested seats. An email will be sent out by the end of the week to confirm ticket allocation and, if applicable, coach seat requests. Match tickets/coach passes will be available to collect from reception after the Easter Holidays. It has been decided that Cranmore children will wear full Cranmore sports tracksuits on the day. Thank you once again for the support in what I believe will be a fantastic day. Last Wednesday our U13 hockey sides played against Hall Grove with the 1st team winning once more to continue a very impressive hockey season (see SOCS for results). The same year group were also competing at the Aldro rugby festival in preparation for the Nationals next Friday. The four U10 hockey sides were very convincing against Danes Hill on Thursday, the same day 11 of our cross-country runners were representing Cranmore at Claremont Fan Court School. Friday, six U8 hockey sides played against Danes Hill whilst our U11 rugby side competed at the Donhead 7s in their last rugby commitment of the season (See SOCS for the report). The girls netball teams have been gaining some great experience and valuable match time against Downsend and St. George’s Junior School. On Saturday, the U8s and U9s combined teams played superbly well scoring 11 goals throughout the morning. On Monday, our U7s had their first opportunity to represent Cranmore. The effort and determination on show was fantastic, as was the support from the Cranmore parents on the sideline. The U11s swimming squad had a successful evening at the Guildford Spectrum on Saturday winning silver in the freestyle at the Surrey Schools Relay Gala. Over in Italy, Ben AldridgeBate as part of our ski squad performed superbly well again and won bronze at the British InterSchools. Hockey has continued this week with our U13s playing The Ashcombe and Thomas's Clapham, plus four U11 sides against Parkside. As we get ready for the Summer sports, two boys in Form One attended the 'Welcome to Surrey Tennis' event held at St George's College. Happy Phillips and James Black were chosen by the external tennis coaches from last year to attend the day which involved expert tennis coaching . Finally, we heard this week that former Cranmore pupil Will Barnicoat has been progressing very well with his cross-country. He recently ran for Surrey at the English Schools Cross Country Championships in Leeds where he finished 2nd in the U15s boys race. This means he gained his 'England Vest' and will compete in the Home Counties Schools International Match this Saturday. Well done, Will. Events
