20 JUNE 2022 Message from the Headmaster We had a wonderful community event on Sunday with pupils, parents, grandparents and staff taking part in the Cranmore Canter. There were some impressive running times but more important was the enthusiasm with which everyone participated and the way in which both runners and spectators enjoyed the morning of fun and some bacon sandwiches. We are fortunate to be surrounded by beautiful countryside and this week, Years 5 to 8 were able to enjoy rambles through the Surrey Hills with some year groups being joined by pupils from St Teresa’s. Year 4 pupils were away from school at the start of the week and took part in many activities including abseiling and archery. Year 1 pupils also had a fantastic trip to Painshill Park to investigate the local wildlife. The activity continues for Year 7 when they spend the weekend at Plas Y Brenin in Wales where they will have the opportunity to walk in the mountains, kayak, canoe and abseil. Well done to all the pupils who recently sat their ABRSM practical music exams on their superb results. Congratulations to the winners of our annual Young Musician Competition heats; we look forward to hearing them play in the final before the end of term. Music can be so uplifting and I am looking forward to enjoying the musical extravaganza at the Lower Prep School Proms in the Paddock this afternoon. Have a lovely weekend. Mr Everitt

Year 5 Ramble in the Surrey Hills On Monday 20th June, Year 5 pupils from both Cranmore and St Teresa’s completed a beautiful 10-mile scenic walk in the Surrey Hills. The hike was completed with great stamina and enthusiasm by all, despite the warm weather, and it was wonderful to be able to get out and explore the local area. The children enjoyed spectacular views and cool, shady woodland, as well as showing our school value of ‘character’, which we are celebrating this week. A big thank you to all staff involved, and well done to Year 5!

Mr Lamport, Head of Year 5

Music News Congratulations to all the children pictured, who were awarded a place in their Year Group Final of the Upper Prep / Senior Young Musician Competition. Each final was fiercely competitive but following some fabulous performances, the following winners were selected:

Year 4 – Nino L (piano) Year 5 – Edward W (piano) Year 6 – Miles K (trumpet) Year 7 Henry C-B (piano) Year 8 Ronan M (voice)

These children will be performing in the Winners Concert on Wednesday 6th July at 9.30am in the Auditorium.

The Year 4 pupils enjoyed a fun demonstration by the music technology company, MTech. This company run an after-school club at Cranmore and these sessions will be open to Year 5 and above in September. During these sessions, the pupils learn how to create their own music to film trailers, video games and commercials etc. It is great fun and a really interesting insight into how electronic music for television and film is created.

Well done to all pupils who took music exams last week. Your hard work paid off and we are delighted with the results. Name

Celebrating our Theme of ‘Character’ Year 2 have been demonstrating collaboration as an important part of their character whilst learning this week. They worked together in mixed classes to create their own posters about extreme weather, finding out information and presenting it in different ways. They were demonstrating excellent listening skills and teamwork. They also have loved working together in English to act out a play script and demonstrated patience and understanding when working with others. In R.E they demonstrated the importance of reflection and peace in our school chapel. They came up with their own ways of spreading gratitude, peace and kindness with each other and some children offered to share their own prayers with their friends.

Barnaby H (6SJ) created this fantastic word cloud on ‘Character’ during an English lesson this week.

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team

Immaculate Heart

Thought for the week: How will you show love? We pray together... O Immaculate Heart of Mary, full of goodness, show your love towards us. Let the flame of your heart, O Mary, descend on all people. Amen. REFLECTION This Sunday marks the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Immaculate Heart's fire illustrates the burning love Mary has for Jesus and us. Mary's heart is pierced with a sword to remind us of the sorrows she endured. The roses represent her purity.

Let us Pray:

Our Father Hail Mary 1 minute silence

“Mother of God and our Mother, to your Immaculate Heart we solemnly entrust and consecrate ourselves, the Church and all humanity, especially Russia and Ukraine.” Pope Francis

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Notices Team Challenge Event ESTA is excited to be running the Team Challenge Event during group tennis lessons next week! Team Challenge is a fun competition designed for junior tennis players. Players compete in small teams for points over a short series of matches, with winners being awarded medals. Win, lose or draw, all players receive a sticker and certificate provided by the Lawn Tennis Association. This is a great way to incorporate some extra competitive match play in sessions. We hope everyone has fun taking part!
