22 NOVEMBER 2021 Message from the Headmaster On Monday morning the car park was invaded by Vikings as Year 3 took part in Viking Day. The children thoroughly enjoyed the historical re-enactment from the Middle Ages and had an opportunity to take part in spear wrestling, rowing, quizzes and workshops. Year 3 have also been busy in the classroom investigating the scientific principles of light while our Nursery children have been learning about habitats and how animals have adapted to live in extreme temperatures. Good luck to the budding artists involved in the Carol Service Programme Competition. I am looking forward to judging the artwork in the coming weeks. We held St Andrew’s Day Mass on Wednesday this week. Thank you to Fr. Stephen for coming to celebrate the mass at Cranmore and to all the parents and Governors who were able to join us online. I have been extremely
impressed with the level of support that our community has shown this term. Families donated generously during our Harvest festival with all gifts going to Leatherhead Start homeless charity. Action Day gave all the Upper Prep and Senior School pupils the opportunity to display their individual talents and raised a thousand pounds for Cherry Trees. Pupils also donated Christmas gifts as part of the Shoebox Appeal and Year 6 are taking time to write Christmas cards to residents at Dene Place Care Home in West Horsley. It has been a superb effort from our Cranmore community to care for others. I wrote to you last week with details of additional measures being adopted to keep our school safe. Today we received additional guidance form our local authority following increased case numbers in Surrey. They strongly recommend that, for the remainder of this term, face coverings are worn by staff and visitors in communal areas (excluding classrooms) in the Lower Prep, Upper Prep and Senior school. In addition, pupils in our Senior school are
also advised to wear face coverings in communal areas. Thank you for your continued help and support.

Year 3 Viking Day A hoard of vicious Vikings descended upon Cranmore on Monday. Although they honed their battle skills and learnt about weapons and armour, they did not spend all their time focusing on raiding. They also learnt about the Viking parliament, played a Viking board game, handled authentic Viking artefacts, competed in a spear wrestling match, participated in a thrilling Viking saga and found answers to a particularly tricky Viking quiz. A great time was had by all. Miss Freeman and Ms Sinclair, Year 3
Lower Prep School Council The Lower Prep School Councillors met with Miss Gallop last week and came up with some fantastic ideas of what they would like to see introduced for the Lower Prep School. They also gave feedback from their classes about Antibullying week and the overwhelming response was how positive it had been in raising awareness, and ensuring our school is a kind and happy place to be!
Our Lower Prep School Councillors for this half term are: Barnaby (RLP), Monty (RCG), Flynn (1SH), Valentina (1AB), Tom (2JC), Ted (2NS), Hugo (3CS) and Freddie (3RF).
Investigating Light and Dark in Year 3 In their Science topic of ‘Light and Dark’, 3RF have been looking at the properties of mirrors and how light is reflected.
Senior Pupils Developing Drawing Skills There has been some outstanding Art homework from our Senior students recently. Our pupils in Year 8 have been improving drawing and recording skills, looking at iconic breakfast products. In Year 7, Joe Baker went above and beyond the task set to apply a great tonal range to the study of a row of wooden pegs. He has truly set the bar in the Senior School! Mrs Sanders, Head of Art

Sports Roundup Another busy week of sport has seen our U13s and U11s participating in the Worth Rugby Tournament and our U9s playing a year group block rugby fixture against Danes Hill. The U13 Squash squad had a resounding win against Downsend last Friday, plus members of our Swim squad did extremely well in the National School Relays at the London Aquatic Centre on Saturday.
