Dear Parents This week’s edition has an eclectic mix of news. It was wonderful that the brother of Canon Freed, who founded Cranmore School, paid a visit with his family last Friday. Naturally, he was thrilled to see that a wonderful legacy exists in the form of Cranmore today. I was delighted to see that a group of parents had a first-aid course here which was a great success. You are aware that all our staff have a regular update on first-aid as it is such an important life skill. On Wednesday we shall be running our e-safety programme for the children and I look forward to seeing many of you at the evening presentation on this vital topic. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

Pastoral Talk – E safety: Keeping Children safe in the real and the virtual world Dear Parents
We are having the next in our programme of pastoral talks next Wednesday, 1st February. Parents with children in the Form One and the Senior Department have been invited to attend. Should space allow, we hope to be able to open up the talk to parents with children in the lower years. This is part of a rolling programme so we will certainly be returning to the subject as we recognise how keen parents are to keep their children safe online. We will be welcoming Paul James from Barabarani Education Services. Paul will be working with all the children from Lower Prep through to the Sixth Form during the course of the day using age appropriate materials. If you have not yet replied and would like to come please could I ask you to contact the office@cranmoreprep.co.uk by Monday morning at the latest as we have parents with children in the lower part of the Junior Department who are keen to attend. Thank you and I look forward to welcoming many of you next Wednesday. Best wishes, Susan Walker Deputy Head

Canon Freed’s Brother Visits Cranmore
Last Friday, Mrs Walker and I were so pleased to welcome our founder’s brother, Mr David Freed, to Cranmore. It was his 89th birthday! He was accompanied by his son and two grandchildren. This is the first time he has visited the School and he was overwhelmed by the legacy that his brother (Canon Peter Freed) has left. We took Mr Freed on a short tour of the Senior Department. We were very proud of the way the children engaged with our visitors. One class even sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him in French, he was clearly delighted. Thank you to all those children who made David Freed’s day so special. Margaret Kieran Head of Junior Department

Last Friday a group of twenty-five Middle Prep parents attended a first aid course at school. I have had very positive feedback and thanks regarding the value of this course. It is really important that we all know what to do in a medical emergency. Cranmore covered the costs of this course and the parents all made a charitable donation amounting to £220. Thank you all for your generosity. This money will be given to the Children’s Trust. Thank you to Susie Brod for helping with the organisation of this course. An Exciting Row at Weybridge The Cranmore J13 crew entered the first race of our season, a 3000m Head race from Weybridge to Walton. Although it was a brilliant sunny day, it was bitterly cold and the stream was running faster than normal. Arjun Kang steered the crew superbly and encouraged them to keep the power on. Jamie Harrison stroked the boat supported by Joshua Brookes, Bruce Behn and William Cattermoul. The time of 13.52 was fast and put us 3 seconds ahead of the St George’s College J14 crew. The real excitement came in the last 500m when Cranmore held off a challenge by a much bigger Kingston Grammar School crew.
