Message from the Headmaster Dear Parents It has been another busy week at Cranmore. Our pupils continue to approach every day enthusiastically in academic lessons, sport, music, drama and participating in preparations for the festive season. The children will be involved in Nativities and our Carol Service which parents will be able to enjoy watching albeit via recordings rather than live this year. I am very grateful to the CPA for organising the Annual Pupil Christmas Raffle and I look forward to making the draw in the final assembly. We are committed to our pupils continuing to attend school safely. As the mornings and evenings are darker, I ask that everyone using the car park is more vigilant. In particular, please use the footpaths only to ensure that children do not instinctively follow parents onto the road and between cars. In addition, please can I ask everyone to observe the speed limit and follow directions given by our Facilities team. Finally, I would like to thank parents for their support of the Romanian Shoebox Appeal. Our Governor, Mr Agius, was once again overwhelmed by the immense generosity and kindness of Cranmore families during this period.
I wish everyone a restful weekend.
Mr Everitt
Focus on Drama Pupils in Year 5 have been exceptionally enthusiastic in Drama lessons, exploring the character Ebenezer Scrooge, our feelings around Christmas time and our need to be compassionate to others. They have used a range of rehearsal techniques, such as hot-seating, role on the wall, improvisation, still images and teacher in role.
Year 5 Drama Club has allowed pupils to be practically creative, developing ideas of how to perform texts and communicate characters convincingly. There has been such enthusiasm!

Sugar - Is it really just Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen? Learning how molecules are formed and named is much easier when you can see what they comprise of; so Year 8 Chemists have been using the wonderful Molymod models to construct compounds. They didn’t have these fantastic kits when Dr Verny White was at school! Igor, Zack and Monty proved Glucose is only a few more atoms than Methane - well 5 more carbon, 8 extra hydrogen and 6 additional oxygen atoms to be precise. Energising stuff!
Awe-inspiring assembly performances by aspiring young musicians
Year 5 pupils have created a board about this year’s value: compassion
Year 4 have enjoyed deciphering and writing hieroglyphic codes
Year 2 pupils created beautiful dancing dragons for their China topic Year 2 pupils have loved learning about the traditions and symbolism associated with dragons in China. They followed instructions to create the dancing dragons and then performed a Chinese dragon dance. They will be writing a recount of this experience as inspiration for their English writing.
Year 2 pupils have adopted a practical approach to learning about money We have just started a new topic on money and we set up a role play shop in the classroom. The children had to find different items hidden around the classroom and use their pots of money to pay for them. Some were challenged to pay with more than the amount and work out the change!
Year 2 pupils have celebrated St Andrew’s Day by creating their own crosses
Reception made alien puppets! Reception have had lots of fun sewing alien puppets this week. They have learnt to carefully sew a running stitch in order to join two pieces of fabric. Then they decorated their puppet by choosing their own design. They are very proud of their puppets!
Nursery All the Nursery children embraced their Pyjama day last week and enjoyed the tasty porridge they made. The children had fun using their gross motor skills to experiment with a sticky cornflour mixture. In Science this week they explored the effect of mixing vinegar and bicarbonate of soda with food colouring, which led to a large amount of bubbles!
Sports Reminders Rain or shine, sports lessons for Year 4 upwards will always take place outside. Pupils must have a change of clothing in school on the days they participate in sport, particularly in periods of adverse weather. Please ensure that the spare clothing is Cranmore sports kit where possible. Pupils in Year 2 upwards should have their shin pads, boots and water bottles with them for their PE and Games lessons. Mouth guards Please go to https://www.opromouthguards.com for information about buying mouth guards.

A message from our Chaplain A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. Glory to you, O Lord. “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” The Gospel of the Lord Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ
Reflection On Sunday we celebrated the Feast of Christ the King. This is the last Sunday of the Church's year. Pause and reflect on the type of King Jesus is. Jesus is the King who washes the disciples’ feet, the King who taught the parable of the Good Samaritan, the King who raised Lazarus to life, the King who walked on water. Jesus is the King who loves us so much he gives everything to us, even His very life.
