25 APRIL 2022 Message from the Headmaster
It was encouraging to see the smiling faces of our pupils as they returned to Cranmore refreshed after the Easter break. We start this term having welcomed two leaders in their field to Cranmore. On Monday, it was my privilege to welcome Floyd Steadman to Cranmore to share his remarkable personal story and raise awareness of unconscious bias with staff from across the Effingham Schools Trust. Floyd was a former top-class athlete and Surrey Headmaster who, since retirement, has devoted his time to speaking about societal challenges, diversity and inclusion in educational and business settings. We are planning for Floyd to return to Cranmore to speak with our pupils. On Thursday, I was thrilled to welcome the world-class violinist Nicola Benedetti and professional musicians from her foundation. Our pupils and those invited from five local state and independent schools, were immersed in musical workshops with the Benedetti Foundation throughout the morning before having the opportunity to play in a concert that afternoon. It was a wonderful opportunity for the pupils to be instructed and inspired by Nicola and the tutors. I would like to congratulate the Cranmore pupils involved in the English Schools Open Ski Championships at the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead this week. There were some exceptional individual performances ensuring our pupils collected several medals, which resulted in the Cranmore team winning the English Schools Junior Boys team event. Well done to everyone involved. As the Summer Term begins, our community can look forward to a busy and exciting time with many opportunities for our pupils in academic learning and extracurricular activities.

Nursery News It has been a lovely start to the new term in the Nursery. The children really enjoyed making rainbow cakes in their cooking session and having them as a tasty treat in the afternoon. They have also been making cakes with the play dough, building towers with the building blocks, and creating pictures with the tap-a-shape.

Sports Roundup This week there have been many cricket nets, skill drills and match play to launch our action-packed cricket season. Furthermore, there are many tennis fixtures ahead and a couple of athletics meets in addition to golf fixtures, skiing competitions and swimming events. Four of our Ski Squad members represented Cranmore on Monday at the National Schools Snowsports Indoor Championships on Monday. Freddie B, Henry B, Samuel B, and Rafferty C-D skied superbly well at the event held at Hemel Hempstead. In the U10s, Samuel came 2nd (missing 1st by 0.02 seconds), Henry came 4th and Rafferty 5th (all pupils are in Year 3). Freddie in Year 5 came 2nd in the U12 category. I am very pleased to share that as a team of four, the pupils won the overall Boys Team Race! Huge congratulations to the 4 pupils involved. We now look forward to the IAPS races in 2 weeks' time.
