30th NOVEMBER 2020

Message from the Headmaster Dear Parents There is an unwavering abundance of energy and enthusiasm in the school this week as pupils prepare for the forthcoming festive traditions in the final week of term. Our Lower Prep pupils gave outstanding performances in three delightful Nativities, while our Upper Prep and Senior School pupils have been busy recording readings and music for the Carol Service. Our older pupils have also been taking part in a ‘Languages Advent Calendar of Compassion’ and have been learning a carol in French, Spanish and Latin. In assembly, our School Captain from 2016, Salvatore Nigrelli, demonstrated his dedication and focus to music during a recorded performance on the oboe. He highlighted the importance of starting instruments at a very young age and reminded pupils of the many musical opportunities that will be available to them as they get older. At the end of this term, we will be saying goodbye to Mrs Loader, who has worked as both a teacher and teaching assistant, and to retiring Nursery teacher Mrs Woods. I am hugely grateful for their contribution to Cranmore and for fostering an exceptional learning environment. Miss Sophie Yeates will join us in January as a teaching assistant and Mrs Ellie Kelly will lead the Forest School for Nursery. Miss Dew, one of our school nurses, will begin her maternity leave. Mrs Adele Smyth, an experienced school nurse, will be joining us in January. Looking ahead to next week, pupils and staff are very much looking forward to the many exciting events which will take place, such as our pupil Christmas raffle, festive lunch and Christmas Jumper Day. It promises to be a very exciting end to the term. Have a lovely weekend. Mr Everitt

School Council News This week, the new School Council Reps met for the first time. They were full of enthusiasm and had some great ideas about how the pupil body can work together to improve our school.

Year 5 made beautiful Christmas cards for the residents of Limegrove care home

Year 7 are learning ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’ in French, Spanish and Latin! Our versatile Year 7 pupils are becoming adept at switching between the three languages they are learning, recognising links between them. This is being reinforced by learning ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’ in all three languages!

Fabulous Nativity Performances by our Lower Prep Department Our pupils delighted us with the following outstanding performances: Reception and Year 1 – ‘The First Christmas’ Year 2 – ‘Jesus’ Christmas Party’ Year 3 – ‘The Amazing Advent Calendar’

Year 2’s Christingles As part of their R.E. Preparations topic, pupils in Year 2 loved learning about the importance of Advent and making their own Christingles. They learnt about what each part symbolises, and they said special prayers and sang songs.

Year 2’s festive outing to Forest School The children used Hazel, Willow and Ivy to make their own Christmas wreaths. It was their last session with Mrs Woods and she finished with a fantastic story, which she acted out.

Reception’s Advent Carousel On Tuesday morning, Reception children really enjoyed participating in an Advent Carousel. We were preparing for Christmas through various art and craft activities. We made many different decorations to take home for our tree and to help decorate our classrooms. We made Angels and stars in RFH, and stockings and Santas in RNS. We think they look beautiful. We have also enjoyed exploring our Christmas-themed role play corners!

Nursery The children in Nursery have been getting ready for the Christmas festivities. They acted out the story of the Nativity and enjoyed dressing up in all the Christmas costumes. They used the big blocks to see who could build the tallest tower and all participated in the ‘Show and Tell’ sessions recapping on the SATPIN letters and sounds we have covered.

A message from our Chaplain A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John. Glory to you, O Lord. Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

A prayer to St Andrew Dear Lord, We give thanks for St Andrew, the one You called first to be Your disciple. Leaving his old life behind, he heard You and was obedient to Your voice. Help us to listen to Your voice and to follow the call You have given us. Lord, we thank you for St Andrew and for the example of his life. Help us at Cranmore to be a community of love and hope ready to continue the work you have given us. St Andrew, please pray for us and watch over us in these challenging times.

Amen A note on Advent Pupils have been learning that Advent means ‘the coming’ of something. Advent is a period lasting FOUR Sundays (not weeks!) preparing for the celebration of Jesus’ birth. The first Sunday of Advent also marks the beginning of the Christian Church's year.

Medical Update

Dear All, We have now completed our second full week of mandatory face coverings for all staff and senior pupils in communal areas. We would like to thank you all for your co-operation with this - just a quick reminder that, A face covering should: Cover your nose and mouth while allowing you to breathe comfortably

Fit comfortably but securely against the side of the face Unless disposable, it should be able to be washed with other items of laundry according to fabric washing instructions

When wearing a face covering you should: Wash your hands thoroughly before putting it on and taking it off Avoid wearing on your neck or forehead Avoid touching the part of the face covering in contact with your mouth and nose When removing a face covering: Only handle the straps, ties or clips

Do not give it to someone else to use If single-use, dispose of it carefully If reusable, it should be kept in a clean plastic bag If your child needs to share a lift with someone outside of their support bubble or household, they should: Share with the same person each time Open the windows for ventilation Wear a face covering (if they are aged 11 or over)

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact the Nurses – nurse@cranmore.org Thank you, The Medical Room
