4th JANUARY 2021
Message from the Headmaster Dear Parents A warm welcome back to everyone for the Spring term. Staff, parents and pupils have adapted incredibly quickly to the Prime Minister’s announcement late on Monday evening and whilst it was not the anticipated start to term we were hoping for, pupils have made a smooth transition to the excellent online provision, with our youngest pupils in Nursery returning onsite. Over the Christmas period, I was particularly proud to hear our Bel Canto (previously C#) Choir’s recording of Silent Night played on BBC Surrey and Sussex radio on Christmas Eve. I was equally delighted with the outstanding results of our pupils in the music examinations held last term; we undoubtedly have some wonderfully talented musicians at our school.
This week, it was encouraging to see the Nursery pupils busy studying the topic of winter, creating colourful collages and being active with music and movement games. The Sports Staff created engaging remote learning exercises and a class distance running challenge which will undoubtedly keep pupils active throughout this period. Over the coming weeks, the focus in lessons will be to deliver content-rich, challenging experiences for all our pupils. We are equally conscious of the importance of well-being at this time and the need to balance outdoor activity and screen time. Pupils will not be receiving homework unless they are in Year 8 with pending external examinations in the Summer Term. I would like to thank teachers, parents and pupils for their tremendous efforts this week as we begin the new term.
Mr Everitt
A great start to the new term for our Nursery children Our Nursery children have been looking at the topic of Winter this week. The Pre-Nursery children have been using mixed media to create winter collages for our display. The Nursery children have enjoyed participating in Joe Wicks’ PE sessions. In the Sports Hall they have enjoyed circle games and Movement to Music. We have been recapping our letters and sounds in the phonics session, using the interactive whiteboard and playing in the home corner.
Thank you to all the teachers, support staff and parents for getting all the learning resources to our pupils so that they can use them from home.
Fantastic Music Exam Results Congratulations to all pupils who took music exams during the Christmas term. This is a fantastic set of results and we are very proud of you all. Mr Harris and Mrs Thornton Grade 1

A message from our Chaplain A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. Glory to you, O Lord After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route. The Gospel of the Lord Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ The Epiphany On Wednesday we celebrated the Feast of the Epiphany, the wonderful event when the Wise Men or Magi visited the Christ Child, guided by the star. We are presented with the aweinspiring image of God’s light guiding them through the darkness, through the unknown. In the same way that the Wise Men needed the star, in many ways we are in need of the same guidance today. As we return to another lockdown, it is easy to feel disheartened and to ask when it will all end. It is easy for us to feel alone and in need of a star to help us through the difficulties we face. Yet God has not abandoned us. We must become like the Wise Men and begin to see the world through the eyes of faith. We too must journey on, through the night and make our way to the stable, to Christ. God has entered our world and placed Himself into our hands. Let us pray to see with the eyes of faith so that we can see the star that is still shining and may our hearts be filled with His peace. Mr Jakubowski
