1 NOVEMBER 2021 Message from the Headmaster It was wonderful to welcome everyone back to Cranmore this week for the second half of term. There was tremendous excitement in the Upper Prep and Senior School in preparation for Action Day. The pupils proved immensely entertaining reciting poetry, singing, acting and performing throughout the day. A special thank you to Mr Harris for arranging the event. Thank you for the generous donations. The funds raised to support our local charity Cherry Trees will be greatly appreciated. In assembly this week we have highlighted the importance of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow. Throughout the coming weeks teachers will be discussing the importance of individuals, communities and governments playing their part in protecting the planet for future generations. On Saturday morning, a number of Cranmore teams will play in the annual Henkes Shield tournament against Rokeby School. The competition began in 1983 and over the years the results have been finely balanced with the Rokeby’s winning tally slightly ahead of Cranmore’s at 18 - 17. This year is an opportunity to balance the scales. Cranmore as holders will need to be outright winners by a half point to retain the trophy. The very best of luck to all those teams involved. I shall be enthusiastically supporting from the side-lines. That same evening, we are also looking forward to the Cranmore Fireworks display. The weather forecast looks favourable and it promises to be an entertaining evening with the eagerly anticipated event sold out. Thank you to the CPA for arranging the evening and I forward to see you there.

Mr Everitt

Action Day On Friday, Upper Prep and Senior pupils took part in Action Day to raise money for Cherry Trees, a local children’s charity. The pupils demonstrated a range of talents and entertained their teachers and friends with their acts.

News from our Nursery At Forest School this week, the children learnt all about animal tracks and enjoyed matching the correct animals with their paw prints. They also enjoyed making their own footprints in the mud! The children have been learning about Diwali and enjoyed sampling various Indian foods for their snack. They have also engaged in creating their Rangoli pictures. Ms Luke, Head of Nursery

Reminder from the Maths Department - Calculators required All students in the Senior School require a scientific calculator for their mathematics lessons. We recommend the CASIO CLASSWIZ series (FX-991EX, FX-83GTX or FX-85GTX). For more information on equipment needed for mathematics lessons, please visit the Mathematics VLE pages for Year 7 and Year 8.

Sports Roundup This Saturday, we look forward to hosting the Henkes Shield football competition. This is an annual event between Cranmore and Rokeby school, involving age groups U9s to U13s. Established in 1983, this will be the 36th year the event has taken place - with 2 years being cancelled due to poor weather and Covid. Rokeby have won the competition 18 times, to Cranmore's 17. Eight matches will take place throughout the morning with one point being awarded for each win, 0.5 for a draw. Cranmore need to achieve 4.5 points to retain the prestigious shield. Good luck to everyone who is taking part! Mr Hodgson, Director of Sport

This week, a Year 6 block fixture took place against Shrewsbury House on our superb Henderson Fields.

The Year 7 & 8 rowers enjoyed perfect rowing conditions during the week before half term.

Farewell, Jack! After 7 years with us at ESTA, Jack Lane is moving on to continue his coaching career at The All England Lawn Tennis Club (Wimbledon) from January 2022. We have no doubt you will be as sad to see Jack go as are we, so we would like to arrange a time when we can all get together to give him a fitting farewell at the ESTA Clubhouse before the end of term. Further details to follow! We are pleased to announce we have an amazing new coach taking over Jack’s lessons in the new year. ESTA
