The Cranmore Chronicle

Page 1

Cranmore’s new Captain of School and Vice-Captain with Headmaster, Mr Connolly Dear Parents Welcome to the first edition of the Chronicle for this new academic year. As ever, there is lots of news about music and sport, including the recent football tour to Amsterdam. We have now begun a new chapter in the history of Cranmore as part of the Effingham Schools Trust comprising 1,000 pupils. A programme of refurbishment took place during the summer break and we are delighted that we have launched our new website too. Looking ahead, we shall have a new prospectus available for our Open Morning on 21st September when we expect to host a record number of visitors. We know that ‘word of mouth’ is the strongest endorsement, so please do encourage friends, neighbours and colleagues who might be interested to come and see all that Cranmore has to offer. Yours sincerely, Michael Connolly

Sports News Pre-season Hockey Training We had an early start to the hockey season on Monday afternoon. Our year 3 and 4 girls took part in a pre-season training session at St Teresa’s. The girls had a great afternoon refreshing their hockey skills and making new friends. It was lovely to see them all working together and enjoying their hockey. Mrs Attree

Sports News Football Tour to Amsterdam

The Under 11 Football squad went to Amsterdam on a pre-season football tour. The squad visited the Dunkirk Museum to learn about the events in 1940 and saw the sights of Amsterdam by canal and open top bus. The tour also included a visit to Ajax FC stadium, a two-hour training session with Ajax coaches and an evening of bowling. They also played two very competitive matches against FC VVC and FC Lisse, where they performed admirably. The tour finished with a visit to the Duinrell Tikipool, where everyone enjoyed the water rides. The tour party stayed in a lovely hotel where we were treated to an incredible array of food at breakfast and dinner. It was a highly enjoyable trip, which will definitely help the players in the season ahead. My thanks go to Mr Hodgson and Mr Down for their help with the tour.

Mr O’Neill

YE-HAW GET YOUR DANCING BOOTS ON! Grab your cowgirls and cowboys and come along with the whole family to our Barn Dance this autumn. We have the incredible Kingsfolk joining us to provide the LIVE music to get everyone up and dancing together, whilst we provide a supper fit for any ranch; chilli, corn, slaw and hotdogs will mean families coming will not have to think about dinner that night. Our low cost cash bar will be very affordable, creating the perfect opportunity to have a good old-fashioned night out while raising money for Cherry Trees. There will also be a Bucking Broncho to test how long you can ride out the bareback bucking. Notorious for throwing riders off in often less than 30 seconds, the western prop will stir up competition in the room for people wanting to have a go at hanging on. Perfect to keep the kids entertained alongside some other themed games. The event is on Saturday 21st September starting at 7.30pm at The Old Barn Hall, Bookham. Tickets: https://www.cherrytrees.org.uk/Event/barn-dance

Early bird prices available until the end of July.
