7th JUNE 2021

Message from the Headmaster Dear Parents, We held the First Holy Communion Mass in the Chaplaincy on Thursday and it was a very special occasion for pupils, staff and Cranmore community. It was wonderful opportunity for the pupils to come together in celebration and my particular thanks to Ms Sinclair, Mr Jakubowski and Fr Stephen for their involvement on the day. The Summer Serenades gave our musically talented pupils in the Upper Prep School an opportunity to play live after school. I was extremely impressed with the high standards of instrumental performance and the array of musical genres played by the students. Well done to all those pupils who took part. The Lower Prep School were treated to

demonstrations by our visiting music teachers on the flute, oboe, cello, bassoon, violin, recorder, trumpet and trombone. We hope it will help inspire the next generation of musicians at Cranmore. The Year 2 pupils had fun making rain gauges as part of their weather topic this week. Like Mr Down, our Head of Cricket, I am hopeful that rainfall collected will be lower than expected for this time of year and the cricket can continue to be played. Our Year 4 and 5 pupils had great success in their fixtures against Downsend and Northcote Lodge and, with our U11 team progressing to the Surrey Cup semi-final, they continued their winning run with a number of excellent victories against Kings College Wimbledon. Mr Everitt

Congratulations to our First Holy Communion pupils Year 3 had a very special morning on Thursday 10th June celebrating eight children's forthcoming First Holy Communion in their local Parishes. Father Stephen celebrated Mass in the Cranmore Chapel and we all enjoyed joining in with the prayers and hymns. We were very proud of how confidently the children were able to recite the bidding prayers and lead us in the Responsorial Psalm.

After Mass, the eight children were invited to the Hospitality Suite for drinks and a special cake to commemorate this first important step of being welcomed into the Catholic Church. Miss Gallop, Head of Lower Prep

Year 2 make rain gauges linked to their topic on weather Year 2 enjoyed a beautiful afternoon exploring at Forest School. We made rain gauges and placed them around Forest School – we will be checking them when we next visit. This links to our topic on ‘Weather’.

Reception learn about farming and explore the bug hotel at Forest School! Reception launched our new farming topic this half term with a visit to the Cranmore 'Farm' to look at the tractor and machinery. 'Farmer Mellstrom' talked to us about all the jobs that the tractor does around school and explained how all the different pieces of equipment worked. We thought about how a tractor would perform these tasks on a farm. We were very inspired when we came back to class and had lots of fun building our own tractors and farm machinery. Reception also had a lovely time at Forest School helping to repair the bug hotel, ready for its new tenants! Mrs Hobdell and Mrs Stefano, Reception Teachers

Nursery pupils explore and investigate from bugs to weeding and transport to water play! The children were happy to return to Nursery after their break. They had a great time at Forest School - going on a hunt for bugs, playing in the hammock and weeding the carrot patch! In class, they have been continuing to practise their scissor skills. In Pre-Nursery the children have been looking at different forms of transport and had fun decorating hot air balloons and completing transport puzzles. The weather has been so lovely this week and the children have all had fun with water play and washing the cars at the car wash! Ms Luke, Head of Nursery

A Message from our Chaplain A reading from the Gospel of Mark While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to His disciples, saying, “Take it; this is My body.” Then He took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, and they all drank from it. “This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many,” He said to them. The Gospel of the Lord

Corpus Christi This week we are focusing on the Feast of Corpus Christi. This is the time when we begin to know more fully that Jesus is truly and fully present in the consecrated Bread and Wine, known as the Eucharist. What an amazing gift Jesus has given us. Every time we go to Mass, we go to meet with Jesus. Jesus loves us so much that He places Himself into each of our hands. Let us pray this week that we too may open the eyes of our hearts so we can see Him and love.
