Cranmore Chronicle 8 March 2019 Editor: Mrs S Connolly

Dear Parents We had a very successful Open Morning last Saturday and I am very grateful to everyone involved but especially our senior pupils who were excellent guides and ambassadors. The Form 2 production of Matilda was first class and the audience was thoroughly entertained not only by superb acting but wonderful singing too. Today we are celebrating World Book Day and, as ever, we have a myriad of characters with striking costumes. We are also celebrating International Women’s Day which is the theme for this morning’s assembly. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

Sports Focus Hockey fixtures have continued over the last week, with our U13 teams leading from the front.

The unbeaten run remains with impressive displays over Danes Hill and Shrewsbury House (see SOCS for results). Equally as impressive was our U9s performance in the whole year group block fixture against Hoe Bridge School last Thursday. On the same day, 12 members of our crosscountry squad participated in a race held at Danes Hill. There was fantastic running on display which produced some great results including our intermediate team (U11s) picking up bronze on the day. Saturday was a packed day of sport for Cranmore including our U7s football team competing at the Hawthorns School, U11s 7s rugby team at Thomas's Clapham, and our rowers participating at the Avon County Spring Head, Bath. The U10s rugby team played at the Donhead festival which resulted in two Cranmore children being awarded medals. Ben Fortescue was presented with best tackler and Charlie Guest picked up his medal for being a great example and showing the values of the game (teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and teamwork). Another impressive individual performance came from Max McIntyre who swam for his club on Saturday at the National Arena Finals, Cardiff. Max was Junior Captain on the day which meant he picked up the awarded relay trophy. He also swam an impressive PB for his 50m FC. Three Cranmore swimming teams entered the Guildford and District Swimming Gala at the Guildford Spectrum on Saturday evening. The U10 and U13 teams came an impressive second, whilst our U11s won their overall event. Well done to all! Also on Saturday, plenty of fun was had at the Cranmore Open Day morning where the U8 netball girls were showcasing their talents. The competitiveness of the occasion was raised when the parents and staff played a 'friendly' match. It was great to see so much effort and skill on show, thank you to all those parents and children who attended. Tuesday of this week saw three different sports taking place for Cranmore at various schools. The U11s competed at the Rokeby rugby 7s Festival, the rest of the 4th Form played hockey at Danes Hill and the cross-country squad competed at Worth School. Finally, sponsored swims have been taking place throughout the Junior School over the last two weeks. The effort shown by every pupil has been truly outstanding and there seems to have been plenty of fun had whilst raising generous funds for Cherry Trees, thank you.
