4 JULY 2022 Message from the Headmaster
Last weekend our Year 8 pupils travelled to Calshot for their residential and enjoyed rock climbing, kayaking, indoor skiing, cycling in the velodrome and many other activities. At the same time, Cranmore families were pitching their tents on the Henderson Fields for the annual Crancamp. The weather was glorious and children had the opportunity to play in the grounds and forest school and enjoy a sumptuous barbecue cooked by the parents. It was another superb event organised by the CPA. I would like to thank all the parents involved in running such events throughout the year as they help to bring our community closer together. On Tuesday, we welcomed all the pupils joining Cranmore in September to the school for an induction day. We are delighted that so many families will be joining us next year. In particular, there is huge interest in our senior school with four classes in the Year 7 cohort. Congratulations to our Year 6 pupils on their terrific cricket performance in winning the Parkside 6s tournament this week. Some of our Year 7 tennis players were very fortunate to spend the day on Court One at Wimbledon and savoured the atmosphere at the world-famous event. It has been an exceptional time at Cranmore with so much to appreciate this year. We have received the top grading in our ISI inspection, had record attendance at Open Mornings, witnessed incredible musical performances during our visit from Nicola Benedetti, been privileged to watch the fabulous performances of Bugsy Malone and, from a sporting context, observed over 1000 fixtures with our pupils winning regional and national titles. What has impressed me most of all is the enthusiasm with which our pupils embrace challenge and the drive they demonstrate to do their best in every situation. My enormous gratitude to the pupils, parents and staff for their efforts in making this such a memorable year at Cranmore. I wish everyone a wonderful summer break.
Mr Everitt
Bugsy Malone Production On Thursday and Friday, over 100 pupils from across the Trust were involved in delivering two fun-packed evenings to sold out audiences. Bugsy Malone is a well-known favourite musical play that never fails to entertain. We were very fortunate to have our first combined performances of pupils from St Teresa’s and Cranmore. The breadth of talents and opportunities across the Trust were displayed, from the comedic acting, the soloists, the band, the choir, the dance ensembles to the backstage crew. It was an intensive rehearsal process which paid off and as a reward they were able to deliver a full-scale custard pie, splurge battle finale. All pupils played their part with such passion and commitment. It will a very memorable experience for all who took part.

Year 7 Residential Trip to Wales
Day 1 - Friday 24th June, 2022 The day began in the Cranmore parking lot, it was a chilly morning. The whole of Year 7 was waiting for the bus to arrive. Then it came and a horde of people rushed over to the other side of the car park to board the bus. People debated quietly with each other on who would sit with who. Then they opened the luggage compartment and people rushed to put them in. Afterwards it was a game of who could get the back seats first. The back row contained 4 seats joined together. Within a matter of seconds they were gone. The only seats left were near the front where I took my seat. The journey would take us six hours, which included two stops. The countdown had begun and at around midday today we would be in North Wales. At the first stop people hurried along in massive groups and it felt as if an army was invading Waitrose. Within moments the whole sweets isle felt as if it had just been purged. We stopped once more and then continued our journey. People stuffed themselves with sweets and doughnuts. The drive was a smooth ride with no significant issues. We arrived at Plas Y Brenin at about 12:30pm and left our bags in a central room before going into the canteen for lunch. We were all ravenous after our long journey, despite buying lots of sweets at the service stations on the way. Feeling refueled, we had a briefing about the Centre rules and then got changed for our afternoon activities. We were split into groups, and all went off to do climbing, abseiling and team building activities. My group went climbing first. The first wall was quite easy, but the second wall was far more difficult. Unofficially, Billy was the fastest climber. Next, we abseiled. This was a challenge because we all had to overcome our fear of heights and have the courage to lean back over the top of the tower and get going. Once I was on my way down, it was thrilling and fun. We were all proud that we had done it and wished that there had been time for a second go! Our final activity of the afternoon was team building activities, where we all had to work together to complete the tasks. One of these involved using all members of the team to balance an enormous seesaw. We had to work out who needed to be on each side and then whether they needed to be close to the middle or at the end of the seesaw. Henry Colborne Baber & Stephen Harjo
Year 7 Residential Trip to Wales
Day 2 - Saturday 25th June – Mountain Day The trip to Wales was fantastic but one of the key features of the trip was the climb up to the top of the bulky mountain of Moel Siabod. Before climbing up any mountain we need to be prepared by wearing a base layer, a thermal jumper (depending on the weather), waterproof top and trousers, a pair of walking boots and a backpack. In the backpack you need a spare pair of clothes, 1L water bottle, medication and food to give you energy when climbing. We headed in the direction of the mountain in a small group of about 10. We saw the mountain and saw a rocky trail which we had to climb up. The first hour was easy because we were walking along the perimeter of the mountain and there were no steep bits that would make us tired. The second hour was more challenging because there were some steep sections and it started to rain so we had to put our waterproofs on. After the rain we decided to have a snack break with a lovely view to soak up. Then we continued climbing and came across lots of sheep who once they had seen a human, freaked out and started running in the opposite direction. The third hour was the hardest because we were getting to a steep part which was rocky so if you lost your footing, you would go tumbling down the hill. Also, there was a challenging section which we had to climb where the rock was smooth due to the glacial effect caused from the Ice Age. Once our group got to the top, we could appreciate the proper mountain weather. One minute we had clear sky with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the Welsh countryside and the next we found ourselves engulfed in the mountain fog, and a little bit of rain only for it to clear soon after. Finally, we descended, which was the easier part and much quicker because it was not a challenge to walk downhill. All you had to do was walk on the grass because if you walked on the trail, you would slip and get hurt. We also did not use as much energy going down the mountain, but the only problem was that some people were faster than others, so we had to wait a bit.We also shared riddles and played a little game of hide and seek. Overall, the mountain climb in Wales was great fun and it was definitely worth the time. Eddie Birtchnell & Elliot Crosby

Day 3 - Sunday 26th June – Gorge Scrambling We rushed down to breakfast and we were welcomed by the sweet smell of bacon and eggs. Once our tummies were full, we were told what we were going to be doing – gorge scrambling. I was looking forward to this day very much because this was my first time doing something like this. Once we had packed up, we strolled down towards the stores to pick up our wetsuits, shorts and a buoyancy aid, which we all needed, since the water would be very deep in some areas. The staff were unbelievably kind to us and supplied us with all the necessary equipment. Once everyone had arrived they explained the unique geographical features of the gorge and how it formed. There were lots of rocks, objects and challenges to overcome, for example, we had to climb freely through a river pool. After crossing we blocked the stream and made someone sit in the line of the water. We then released the rapid and the person would get carried down the river for a short while by the rapid and fall into the lake. Our first real test was to traverse a boulder size rock to the other side. Other different challenges included making use of a climb rope because it might have been painful if you fell due to a large drop from the rocks. We left a bit early because some people were getting cold, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and this was my favourite activity of the whole weekend. James Crisp & William Rosenberg
Year 7 Trip to Wimbledon
On Monday 4th July, eight members of Year 7 were fortunate enough to visit Wimbledon and watch some exciting tennis matches on No.1 Court, which saw Elena Rybakina, Taylor Fritz and Amanda Anisimova come out as winners. It will be interesting to see if they make their respective finals over the weekend. The boys also had a tour of the grounds and managed to get the autograph of Christian Garin. Mr O’Neill
Year 2 Learning about Volcanoes Our Year 2 pupils have loved learning about volcanoes. The children formed groups to design and plan their volcanoes. Next, they created them from a range of materials. Then they took them outside and watched them erupt! It was a great afternoon of learning and a fantastic way to finish our wonderful topic on Extreme Weather and Earth. Mrs Carpenter and Mrs Stefano

Well done to all those who participated. We were thrilled to welcome back ex-School Captain and superb musician, Thomas Mclean, who has spent two weeks doing work experience in the Music Department. Thomas plays four instruments to a high level: trumpet (Grade 8 Distinction), saxophone (ARSM Diploma Distinction), piano (Grade 7 Distinction) and organ (for fun!). Thomas has just completed his GCSEs and will be studying Music, English, Latin and History at A Level. Mrs Thornton and I were very grateful of Thomas’ assistance this week and we wish him all the very best with his future studies.
The Upper Prep and Senior pupils and staff enjoyed a musical treat on Wednesday morning at the Young Musician Winners Concert. Ex-pupil and fine musician, Thomas McLean opened the proceedings with some wonderful playing on our beautiful Mander organ. This was followed by a fabulous performance of ‘Let It Be’ by the Year 8 band, comprising of Ronan M (vocals), Austin B (piano), Gene G (guitar), Arthur B (drums) and William K (bass).
We all then sat back in our seats and marvelled at the performances of the year group winners of this year’s competition:
•
Nino L (Year 4 Winner piano)
•
Edward W (Year 5 Winner piano)
•
Miles K (Year 6 Winner trumpet)
•
Henry C-B (Year 7 Winner piano)
•
Ronan M (Year 8 Winner voice)
My congratulations to all the boys who performed to me during the competition heats, those who made it to the year group finals and the ‘fab five’ above, who won their year group finals. Bravo! Mr Harris
Sports Roundup Congratulations to our U11s cricket side who won the Parkside 6s cricket tournament on Monday. This was after they beat Hoebridge in the Surrey Cup Final on Thursday which meant they played Kings College Wimbledon in the final on Saturday. Unfortunately, the side lost in the final, but this made the Parkside win even more special with the players showing great resilience and character. Our U13s cricket side, made up of mostly Year 7s due to the Year 8 residential, were finalists at the Rokeby 6s cricket tournament at the beginning of the week. Well done to Moby D who finished a respectable 9th in the long jump event at the National Athletics Competition held at the Pingle Stadium, Nuneaton.

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team
God bless We pray together... At the end of this school year we give thanks to God: For all the teaching and learning that has taken place in our school, both in and out of the classroom, For the talents and gifts that have been shared and the challenges that have been faced; For the burdens that have been lifted and the hurts that have been healed; For the respect and care that has been given. We give thanks for the friendships that have just begun and for those that have grown; For the faith that has been lived in our daily struggles, For the hope that has lifted our hearts on the dark days And for the love that has kept us going. We give thanks for the community that we are, and we ask you Lord Bless our students: May your Spirit inspire them with confidence and calmness; Bless our families as we take our holidays, May our time together leave us with memories to cherish. Pour out your love on us that we may return renewed and refreshed to continue our journey in faith together. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
