8th MARCH 2021

Message from the Headmaster Dear Parents, It was tremendous to have everyone back at school this week. The staff and the Monday morning sunshine combined to welcome families at the school gates and it proved to be a busy, active and rewarding week for the pupils. With the school’s facilities in full use, there was an array of activities for children to take part in. Outdoors the playing pitches, playgrounds and forest school were a hive of activity, while the music rooms, swimming pool and common room were also busy with pupils. Some highlights included the Year 1 children being imaginative while creating animal habitats, Year 2 displaying their musical talents and it was encouraging to see the Year 3 pupils honing their culinary skills.

A special mention to those involved in the superb effort to create costumes during Book Week. Pupils and staff dressed up in character in everything from pirates to witches and I think I may have even spotted a Gruffalo in there too! It has been a very productive and enjoyable week back at school and, for the pupils, the opportunity to spend time with each other in the playground, at lunchtime and in the classroom has been very much appreciated and was essential in reconnecting our community again at Cranmore. Enjoy a peaceful weekend and see you all again on Monday. Mr Everitt

Year 6 Marshmallow Modelling– Atoms, Compounds and Mixtures

Year 6 have been learning about Elements and The Periodic Table. What better way to practise making compounds than Marshmallow Modelling with Elements Pi and Wh (Pink and White)! It was rather sticky, but we enjoyed seeing what creative structures we could make and what a mixture could contain. We learned about mixtures- - two or more different types of particles (elements or compounds) which are not chemically joined together. Well done everyone. Dr Verny White, Teacher of Chemistry and Science

Science Week Puns: I am reading a great new book on anti-gravityI just can’t put it down!

You can never trust atoms–

I would tell you a good Chemistry joke– but all the good ones Argon!

How much room is needed for fungi to grow? As mushroom as possible!

Whole School World Book Day Fun! Many thanks to all the pupils and parents who participated to make this a lovely day. We had Superwomen, Harry Potters, Tigers who came to tea, Fantastic Mr Foxes, and many more. Teachers also dressed up and shared passages from their favourite books. Pupils created hats for cats, and even baked cakes for cats! There was a competition to identify which Upper Prep teacher was reading and Mr Peach showed off his technical wizardry, filtering the Lower Prep teachers’ faces as they talked about their favourite books! As one happy parent emailed, “Thank you for making Book Day so special for them; it worked perfectly– a great end to an impressive home -school run!“

Mrs Hopkins Head of English

World Book Day challenges! Here are some imaginative potato creations from Year 3 as part of their World Book Day Challenge! Mr Peach

These photographs include some of the highlights from our World Book Day in Year 2. The day began with a surprise envelope the children opened with my letter telling them all about the special day. The children read the story of 'the Cat in the Hat' which inspired them to create their own magical hats with tricks they could play.

They loved dressing up as their favourite book character and sharing unusual places they like to read. They also had great fun reading tongue twisters from different Doctor Seuss books and then writing their own. Mrs Carpenter and Miss Freeman

Reminder! - The Great Cranmore Bake Off!

I am very excited to tell you all about a forthcoming whole-school fundraising event... The Great Cranmore Bake Off! This suggestion came from our School Council and we are inviting all pupils and staff in our Cranmore community to take part. We would like everyone to get out their mixing bowls and create an Easter themed show-stopping bake. This could be a cake, cupcakes, traybake or biscuits - anything goes. We are asking all entrants to donate £2 to the Catholic Children's Society https://www.cathchild.org.uk/. A Message from our Chaplain A reading from the Gospel of John When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. The Gospel of the Lord Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ

Lent This week we hear how Jesus cleared the temple in Jerusalem. We see Jesus get angry at what the people have done. They have turned a sacred place into a market place. With all the buying and selling there is no place for God. Jesus displays a righteous anger because the people have done what is wrong. Let us ask ourselves the question this week– Do we make room for God in our life? Do we make time for prayer, for others and for reading His Word? Any time spent with Jesus is time well spent. This week aim to make time for God for He is close to each of us and is knocking at the door of our hearts. Also aim to make time for your family. God bless you all this week.

Lord, please show me what I should give up for Lent. Help me to draw close to You in this season. To repair any relationships that are damaged and to be a helping hand to those in need.

Mr Jakubowski’s Prayer for Lent Heavenly Father, Creator of all things, we pray for Your great mercy, that You will guide us towards You, for we cannot find our way without You.

Guide us to do what You require of us, for we cannot do it alone. Make our minds strong to serve You as You would wish. Strengthen us against the temptations of Satan, knowing that Your Son was tempted in the desert, and remove from us all that is evil, shielding us against our enemies. Teach us so that we may love You before all things with a pure heart and mind. For You are our Father, our help, and our hope. In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen
