Dear Parents This week we have photos and text on how we joined with others throughout the land in paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the First World War and other conflicts. On Saturday the Henkes Shield lived up to expectations with several remarkable team and individual performances. I am very grateful to all the Sports Staff and other colleagues who supported this marvellous competition. We also enjoyed a real treat in the evening with the fabulous CPA Fireworks Party which went ahead as planned despite some rain. As ever, the CPA team and their helpers did a first class job. We must congratulate our pupils who displayed their wonderful musical talents at the Woking Festival this week. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

We Will Remember Them We held a special assembly on Friday 9th November, to mark and remember those who lost their lives during the First World War and subsequent wars. It was led by pupils from 5AM and 6D who created a very meaningful ceremony for us. The whole school actively supported the event through researching family members who had lost their life in conflict. Each child wrote on a cross the name of someone who had lost his or her life in war. These crosses were then placed in a poppy shape near the school entrance. The poppy with all the crosses makes a moving spectacle and reminds us all of what we owe to those who kept us safe.

Pyjama Day will be on Thursday November 22nd!
News from the Nursery The children in both Nursery and Pre-Nursery have been finding out about India and Diwali, the Festival of Light, using all their senses! They enjoyed preparing Indian snacks and then tasting raita, poppadoms, naan bread and mango chutney. They smelled different spices before deciding which was their favourite. They listened to the story of Princess Sita and Prince Rama, using smallworld toys to re-enact the story. They shaped clay into little diwa lamps which we then lit together. Pre-Nursery children also enjoyed finding out about Indian wildlife, such as tigers and peacocks.
The children also found out about Remembrance Day and learnt about the significance of the poppy. They even managed to be quiet for 2 minutes! This week we have been enjoying night-time stories and will be having our annual ‘Pyjama Day’ next Thursday November 22nd. We would love it if all the children could come in wearing pyjamas, but please ensure your child also has uniform to change into to play outside. We look forward to seeing any of you who have younger children at our Friday afternoon Toddler Group, which will take place again from 2-3.15pm in our PreNursery playroom.

Thank you! Thank you to all the parents, children and staff who supported the many CPA events and efforts at Cranmore last year. From the invaluable second-hand shop to the 50th anniversary ball, the exciting Christmas raffle to the regular family events of Picnic in the Paddock and the Fireworks, our fundraising raised just over £10,000 and has enabled us to provide some fantastic additional equipment for the school for this year. The focus of the CPA investment was on items that would add value to the children's school lives, optional extras that weren’t in the school’s investment plans but things they would love to have. Following discussions with Mr Connolly, the decision was made to focus the investment in two areas, the playground and ICT. We were fortunate enough to have raised enough funds to buy everything on the school’s wish list! As result of all the CPA fundraising, the playground now has 2 fantastic outdoor table tennis tables, which are proving hugely popular at playtime. There are two outdoor beanbags for children who would prefer a quieter playtime and two picnic benches for friends to sit and chat. Arriving soon are two further picnic tables which will have a chess board and a road play-mat embedded in the table top for more playtime games. The CPA has also purchased some new bikes for the playground, suitable for slightly older children than the current equipment.
The second area of investment was a whole class set of Virtual Reality headsets. Mr Hinds has all sorts of amazing things planned for the children, linked to their classroom learning. So thank you again, none of this would be possible without your support. And here’s to another great year! The CPA committee

Last week was the end of our formal Football season which included fixtures across the school against Shrewsbury House, Danes Hill, and Northcote Lodge. The U8s in the Cumnor House Tournament performed superbly well in reaching the final. Cranmore pupil Harry Phillips was awarded the ‘Player of the Tournament’, voted by all school coaches and referees. The grand finale to the season was the Henkes Shield, hosted at Cranmore on Saturday. The glorious morning was attended by over 150 children and parents and it turned into a tightly-fought contest. With the final score of the matches being 4 – 4 overall, the ‘challenger’ was awarded the overall win (Cranmore having won the Shield for the last 6 years ). This meant that the winners of the Henkes Shield 2018 were Rokeby. Last week also saw the final round of House Football matches, as well as a continuation of PE rotations for some year groups involving Hockey, Rackets and Gymnasium activities. Finally, our Swimming squad came a very close second in the Downsend Gala on Friday. This week saw the start of the Rugby season. Each year group has been introduced to RFU laws and safety guidelines for each age group and the children have shown their enthusiasm and excitement for the sport. Fixtures started on Tuesday against CLFS where the U11s were fantastic across all teams, A to D. The rest of the week involves the U13s/U11s participating in the Worth Festival, U9s against SGJS and U10s hosting a triangular on Saturday involving Danes Hill and SGJS. This Thursday our Cross-Country team is competing in the Guildford District Trials at Charterhouse and on Friday Cranmore is hosting a Squash match against CLFS. On Monday our Swimming squad, including 6 year groups, swam in the Parkside Gala involving Danes Hill, Parkside and Hawthorns. The result of the event between the four schools was still close until the final relays and when all the points were tallied up, it was very pleasing to hear that the overall winners were, indeed, Cranmore. Well done to all!

Safeguarding and Child Protection at Cranmore
As part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring that appropriate child safety procedures are applied at Cranmore, parents are kindly asked to sign in at Reception when entering the school (including assemblies in the auditorium). Parents are also kindly asked to not enter the sports hall or the main building whilst their child is involved in an after school extra-curricular activity. This will not only assist staff members conducting the session to focus on the children, but it will also minimise any potential risks.
Ms Schembri
All pupils in the Senior School took part in an Anti-Bullying Workshop this Wednesday, as part of our Anti-Bullying Week.
