Dear Parents We have reached the end of another remarkable term at Cranmore. Looking back, there have been so many successes across different aspects of school life: academic, sport, music, and drama. Together these represent the range and depth of our pupils’ talent as well as their determination to do well. Of course, this could not happen without the commitment from the staff, whether in the classroom or in a supporting role, who strive hard to create the optimum learning environment for the children in our care. I am especially grateful to everyone, colleagues and pupils, who made a contribution to our stunning Carol Service last night. I wish you all a most peaceful and joyous Christmas and a Happy New Year. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

Dear Parents It was lovely to see so many of you at our wonderful Carol Service last night. As always the children were the real stars, creating the most superb spiritual atmosphere and giving us the real message of Christmas. The children and the staff have been working hard for some time preparing for the event and I know you will join me in thanking them for making it such a special evening. I would like to wish you a very happy Christmas and hope that the peace and joy reflected in last night’s service carry right through the festive season. Wishing you every happiness for 2018, a very special 50th year for our School Community. Best Wishes, Susan Walker Deputy Head

Dear Parents Thank you for your support this term and in particular for making me so welcome at Cranmore. I have really enjoyed my first term and am looking forward to the new year and all that we have planned for the children. I am delighted to announce that Mrs Green (Middle Prep class teacher) has been appointed as Assistant to the Head of the Junior Department and will be taking up this role from January. As we bid farewell to Mr Hudson I know you will join me in thanking him for his contribution to Junior Sport during his time at Cranmore. We wish him every success for the future. From January Mr O’Brien, Director of Sport, will be Head of Junior Sport, assisted by Miss Wilkinson, Head of Girls’ Games. Our Cups and Awards Assembly yesterday enabled us to congratulate children for their achievements this term; details will be posted on the Parent Portal area of the school website. This was followed by the evening Carol Service where contributions from pupils and staff were all most enjoyable and the Junior Chamber Choir sang beautifully. On behalf of the Junior Department I wish you and your family a very happy Christmas. Mrs Fiona Nicholson Head of the Junior Department

On Friday 8th December, the School Council hosted a '50th Anniversary' themed cake sale. School Council representatives made delicious cakes, decorating them in the Cranmore colours. Thanks to their efforts, ÂŁ252 was raised and monies will be shared between Challengers and Cherry Trees. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. School Council

Visit to the Homeless Shelter Last Wednesday afternoon a van full of Fourth Form pupils left Cranmore to take food and toiletries to a homeless shelter called LeatherHEAD START. The food and toiletries had been collected after Mass for donation to the shelter. We had all sorts of foods with us. There were things like baked beans, tea and coffee, ketchup, bags of rice and curry and even Maltesers. The boys had also donated toiletries such as toothpaste and flannels. The hospice was a big terraced house in Leatherhead. When we arrived, we were greeted by a member of staff and she asked us to put the things in their dining room. The dining room was a small room with a kitchen and breakfast bar in the corner. After we'd sorted out the bags, we were shown around the house. There were ten bedrooms and people could stay there up to twelve weeks. We were shown one of the resident's bedrooms. It was small and had a desk, a single bed, a TV and en-suite bathroom. The person who was showing us around told us that the residents do activities such as art, baking and selling their food at market. We drove back to Cranmore feeling very fortunate that we have nice houses, loving families and somewhere safe to live and very lucky that we don't have to worry about having food to eat and a bed to sleep in.
