Dear Parents We were delighted to retain the Dunckley Shield last Saturday after another magnificent performance from our rugby squads. There is great anticipation for the House Music Competition this afternoon. All the songs are from 1968, the year of our foundation. Alas, some of us are old enough to remember hearing the original version when they were hits in the pop charts. The Cranmorian is always a delight to read and we have decided that an annual fix will simply not do. Therefore, we are now publishing a termly version instead and I am sure you will love our Easter Term 2018 edition. I wish you and your family a restful half-term break. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly
Second Form pupils took part in an art workshop last week after their trip to see ‘The Snow Queen’ at the Polka Theatre.

Dear Parents, SAVE the DATE –Wednesday 21 March 2018 @7.00pm On Wednesday 21 March we will be welcoming Marilyn Hawes to speak to the children in Forms 3—6, during the school day, about internet safety and their awareness of these issues. This is part of our ongoing pastoral programme. Marilyn Hawes set up the charity Enough Abuse and is passionate about informing children and their parents about the dangers of the internet. Marilyn came to deliver a staff inset in September and her poignant account of her own experience was both moving and alarming, one of the best insets staff say they have ever attended. She is a most engaging and passionate speaker and I would urge you to try and attend her presentation. Please do make a note of the date. The evening presentation at 7pm is open to all parents but will not be suitable for pupils. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Kind regards Susan Walker Deputy Head
Have a little less Give a little more On Friday 23rd February we will be having a Lenten Fast Day Lunch. Pupils will have a soup and sandwich lunch so that we can support those who go without. The money raised from this event will go to CAFOD.

Democracy in Action On Thursday 1st February, the School Council was lucky enough to visit the Houses of Parliament and the Churchill War Rooms. I really enjoyed the day as we were able to learn about how Parliament is run and what life was really like in Churchill’s War Rooms. For me, the best part of our day at Parliament was watching a live Commons debate. It was interesting to see that when the Members of Parliament want to speak, they need to stand up and the Chair then chooses who is to speak. After our tour, we had the opportunity to participate in a workshop where we had to decide on a subject which interested us and choose which campaign we would adopt. Towards the end of the day, we met our local MP, Sir Paul Beresford; not something we do every day! The day ended with a visit to the Churchill War Rooms, which is a must if you are interested in World War II. I am certain the other School Council reps will agree, we had a great day out! We are enjoying our weekly Bible stories in Bright Stars. The children always engage really well and have lots of comments to offer afterwards. This week we were very pleased to welcome visitors to our Bright Stars Open Morning. The playrooms looked lovely and the children enjoyed meeting new friends and showing them lots of different activities. Our Friday Toddler Group continues to be very popular. It meets each Friday in termtime between 2 and 3.15pm. If you have children between 0 and 4 years old you are most welcome to attend. Holiday Fun sessions will run during the half-term break. We have a few places available so if you are interested do get in touch with us as soon as possible.

Using the Imagination On Friday the 2nd form went to see The Snow Queen at the Polka Theatre and enjoyed a thrilling and inventive production of this classic story. The whole play was set in an attic, where four children used the objects found there as costumes and props to tell the tale. In the afternoon we had some related activities: an art workshop where the pupils used paper-cutting techniques to begin making a story box scene, a break for a snowflake cookie, and a drama workshop based on the production, led by a member of the Polka team. The children had to work in pairs and in groups, using movement and facial expression to recreate scenes from the play and predict what might have happened next. It was a fascinating day and helped all of us to see how powerful and creative the imagination can be.

Budding Musicians Last week we had a marvellous Junior Department Music Assembly and were entertained by five pianists: Michael, Max, Lucia, Rowan and James. For some of the children it was the first time they had performed in front of an audience. The children played confidently and were magnificent role models, inspiring others with their music.
