The Cranmore Chronicle
Dear Parents This term is very much up and running now and I sense that our new pupils, and indeed new colleagues, already feel part of our Cranmore community. I have been delighted to see so many of you at our series of reception evenings which have been a helpful forum and an opportunity for you to speak to colleagues. Please note that I shall be away on Wednesday and Thursday next week to carry out an ISI inspection. The CPA is now advertising the Fireworks Party for 11th November. If you have never been before, please do come along as your family will most certainly have great fun. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

CRANMORE’S 50th YEAR Dear Parents, Last Friday saw the first of our 50th year events with the whole school community participating in a Mufti Day. Friday morning assembly saw children arriving in an array of yellow, gold and orange outfits with the staff joining in the fun too. Thank you for your support. Your children looked fantastic and certainly helped to get our 50 th year off to a very colourful and exciting start. During Mass on Wednesday we prayed for a happy and successful year in the history of Cranmore. Our 6th Form took responsibility for the readings, prayers and offertory, proving to be wonderful role models for the younger children. Our next 50th Year event involving children from the Ones and Senior Department will be the Musicathon. As well as playing their music the children will also be raising money for charity. It is going to be a marathon event stretching over 50 hours. Thank you to Mr Harris for another Cranmore first! Best wishes, Susan Walker

Dear Parents, The children in the Junior Department have had a busy week, with this week being the first full week of the term. Children in Bright Stars and Lower Prep have settled in and are making new friends. Swimming lessons have started and children have been to Forest School. On Wednesday we joined the whole school for the first Mass of the academic year and I am proud of the children’s excellent behaviour, as well as their enthusiastic singing. Thank you to parents who attended the Parent Reader Briefing Session for Upper Prep and Form 1; we look forward to you working together with us to enable the children to become confident and enthusiastic readers. Kind regards Mrs Fiona Nicholson

Thank you from Miss Kieran 14 September 2017 Dear Parents I cannot believe the summer has passed and your children have already completed their first week of the academic year! I have heard that they are all well settled and enjoying the new term at Cranmore. I want to thank you all so much for your most generous presents, cards, flowers and such kind words. You and your dear children made my final working days at Cranmore so very memorable. I will treasure forever the memory of my ‘Flashmob’, The Celebration Tea-Party and my Farewell Assembly. I was also very touched to receive your very kind presents of a stunning birdbath for my garden together with a beautiful piece of artwork depicting the entrance gates to Cranmore. Of course it goes without saying that I miss you all! However, I have a bright future and I will really look forward to visiting Cranmore in the months to come. I wish you all a great year. With very best wishes

We had a lovely Summer in Bright Stars, enjoying trips on the minibus to Guildford Castle, fruit-picking at Milford, a boat-trip on the River Wey and dinosaur– hunting at Wisley, as well as lots of other fun activities here. We will have more Holiday Fun sessions in October.

Football Tour to Barcelona
On 27th Aug, the U11 football squad travelled to Barcelona for the annual football tour. As well as playing 2 matches against local opposition, the team had the opportunity to see the sights of the city. These included a trip to the fantastic aquarium, a training session with Espanyol, and a visit to the highly impressive Nou Camp, where we even saw the unveiling of Ousmane Dembele, Barcelona’s new 135-million-euro signing. To finish the tour the squad went to Portaventura, Spain’s leading theme park. A great time was had by all! Mr O’Neill

Music Department Musicathon As you may be aware, Cranmore will be fifty years young this academic year and so the Music Department will be celebrating this with a 50 hour Musicathon, starting on Thursday 28 September. This event will take place over six days and culminate in a performance on Friday 6 October by one of our most accomplished past pupils, William Ball. He will play his oboe in our whole school assembly to complete the fifty hours of music. Current pupils in Form 1 and upwards are invited to contribute to this event by signing up and playing for thirty five minutes non-stop in the Auditorium. Each child participating will be asked to practise their instrument for 35 minutes. They will be supervised, but will not be playing to an audience. Once they have finished, the next child will take over, so that the music is non-stop throughout the entire day. Those willing to participate are asked to make a donation of £5 to charity and ensure that they have some music to practise on the time and day they choose to play. The sign-up sheet will be placed outside Mr Harris’ room. Let the music commence!

The Rowing Season Gets Off To A Flying Start!
The first Saturday of term was a fine day and over 20 pupils came down to the river at Walton to go rowing. Many had already been on the summer rowing course and others, although less experienced, made up for it with their enthusiasm! We had 2 octuples, 2 quadruple scull and double out. The crews not only had our normal coaching team following them but also ex-Cranmore squad members Thomas Jenkinson and Luke Swaine rowing with them, making for some exciting rowing. Rowing is open to all Cranmore pupils in the 3rd form and above and takes place at Walton Rowing Club every Saturday morning: the 4th, 5th and 6th forms can also opt to row on their games afternoon. For more information or to come and try rowing, please contact Mr Martin.
