Form 3 visited the School Chapel recently for a service of reflection.

Dear Parents Those senior pupils who have been doing their Common Entrance exams this week will be delighted that they can now look forward to an exciting programme of activities for the remainder of the term. There is a busy weekend of sport ahead including a Cricket Tour and two special events as part of our 50th Anniversary celebrations: a Golf Tournament at the Drift Golf Club and a cruise on the Gloriana, the Royal Barge. We are delighted that many former pupils and their families who have had a strong association with our Rowing Club will be joining us for what is certainly a unique occasion. Let us hope that the recent good weather continues. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

Junior Department Summer Productions – June 2018 Dear Parents I have great pleasure in inviting you to the Junior Department Summer Productions. There are three performances this term. On Tuesday 12th June, at 9.15am and again at 2pm in the Auditorium, the Lower, Middle and Upper Prep classes will perform ‘The Bee Musical’. This will last approximately 45 minutes. All parents of children in the Lower, Middle and Upper Prep classes are invited to attend one of these performances. On Monday 18th June at 2.00pm there is the ‘Form One Final Assembly’. This is a very special assembly as the children look back on their time in the Junior Department before they move onto the Senior Department. This will last approximately one hour and all parents of children in Form 1 are invited. I look forward to seeing you at these forthcoming events. Kindest regards Fiona Nicholson

Whole School Picnic On the Friday before half term, as part of the anniversary celebrations, the whole school enjoyed a wonderful picnic prepared by our Catering Team. There were pizza slices, mini sausages, chicken bites, vegetable sticks, cheese cubes, crisps, fruit, mini muffins and juice. As the storm clouds that had threatened moved away, the excitement mounted. The weather was kind to us and the children enjoyed a variety of games. The older children played soft ball and mini golf as well as some more traditional picnic games like egg and spoon races, tug of war and limbo! There were ice lollies to conclude an afternoon of fun. Thank you to our wonderful Catering Team and all the staff who organised a variety of activities for the children to enjoy. Best wishes, Susan Walker

We had lots of fun over the Cranmore School holidays during our Holiday Fun sessions. We enjoyed activities based around discovering more about Holland, including baking Dutch Apple Cake, making windmills and going for a bike ride. Our French day included constructing the Eiffel Tower from large wooden blocks, baking a sweet treat for our patisserie and having a go at painting like French Impressionists. We of course enjoyed our weekly visit to Forest School too. We are looking forward to Steve from Animazing coming soon with his ‘animazing animals’ and are busy preparing some special surprises for our Daddies!

Class LB gave a delightful performance in assembly before half term. The theme was looking back over their memories of this school year.

3rd Form Ramble 2018 On Tuesday 5th June, the 3rd Form embarked on a ramble through the beautiful Surrey Hills. We set off from Bocketts Farm and made our way through the glorious countryside. Having skirted Polesden Lacey, we trekked up to Ranmore Common and followed the North Downs Way for a short time before stopping for lunch and basking in the heavenly views across to Leith Hill Tower. After enjoying our refreshments and one another’s company, we wended our merry way back to school, pausing briefly to stand in silence and savour the peace and tranquillity that surrounded us. The Third Form would like to thank Mr Chapman for leading us and all of the staff and parent helpers involved with guiding us on our trip.

My Favourite Mathematician Form 4F/4S have enjoyed producing a model or presenting a powerpoint of their favourite mathematician to the class. All the students researched the life and contribution of their mathematician towards the study of mathematical concepts. The models ranged from Alan Turing’s Enigma and Bombe machines, an Archimedes sculpture made from clay, a projector and cardboard structure of Pythagoras, and Johannes Kepler’s hexagonal close packing of spheres. The powerpoint presentations were on Isaac Newton, Ada Lovelace, John Nash, Leonhard Euler, Ptolemy and Euclid. A huge effort was made by all the students in the creation of these presentationsand the class learned a lot of new information. Well done to everyone taking part! Miss E Fagan

Solve That! During the month of May, four students in form 2 travelled to St. George’s College Junior School in Weybridge to participate in a mathematics challenge. There were 33 teams of two students competing in the event, from a large number of schools. The young mathematicians participated in various mathematical tasks which included working with dice, pentominoes, playing cards, dominoes, tangrams and counters. Each round was timed and points were awarded when the time was up. The final round of the day was the coming together to work through multiple choice mathematical problems. The scores were totalled along with final placings, and prizes given to the winning teams. Each student received a certificate of participation. It was a very enjoyable afternoon for all the enthusiastic students and parents.
