Dear Parents This is the penultimate issue of the Chronicle for this academic year. Everyone enjoyed last Friday which was a key part of our 50th Anniversary celebrations. However, there is still a busy programme to complete. On Wednesday our rowers had a marvellous visit to Henley. Yesterday we had a wonderful Mass for those pupils who have recently received their First Holy Communion. Last night we had the Annual Ski Club Prize Giving which recognises all those who have worked hard throughout the year and especially for their strong performances in competitive races. Tonight we shall be hosting a dinner for our 6th Form leavers in recognition for all they have contributed to Cranmore during their time with us. We are very much looking to next week when we shall have the Young Musicians Grand Final, two performances of Joseph and the traditional Rounders and Cricket matches on Tuesday evening. As ever, our pupils have demonstrated their skills in so many ways this year, not only in the academic sphere but in music, sport, drama and other pursuits too. We were delighted with how well our children performed in 11+, CE and Scholarship exams. It is worth noting that 31 scholarships were awarded to Cranmore pupils – a remarkable achievement in a very competitive market. This reflects the pupils’ talents and commitment but also confirms the high quality of teaching that we provide at Cranmore. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

50th Anniversary Founder’s Day Mass Last Friday Bishop Richard Moth joined us and celebrated our 50th Anniversary Founder’s Day Mass. It was a very special occasion, an opportunity to reflect on Cranmore’s development and to give thanks for our wonderful school. The Mass was led by our 6th Form leavers. Over sixty former staff members including two former Headmasters were also with us for the day. Following Mass, afternoon tea was served for 6th Form parents and provided an opportunity for the former staff to become reacquainted. Thank you to everyone in our school community who worked so hard to ensure it was a memorable day as we come towards the end of our anniversary celebrations. Susan Walker

Form One to the Rescue! Surrey Lowland rescue came last week to visit the Ones. Josh Turnbull's dad volunteers for them! The children had an amazing experience sitting in the vehicles, using walkie talkies, seeing a drone, trying on special suits and they heard all about the types of situations where Surrey Lowland rescue come to the aid of people and the other emergency services. Many thanks to the team for giving up their time to show us what they do.

The Junior Language Challenge 2018 The first round of the JLC 2018 is now finished. There were lots of high scores this year again. Really well done to all of the children in Form 1, 2 and 3 who played with the Spanish language, it was not easy! The two students with the highest number of points have qualified to go through to the second round: G Ladds (pictured) and A Hayward in Form 2. They have to learn a new language over the summer and memorise it for the semi-final: the KHMER language!
Form 1 enjoyed their last session of Spanish Club last week in Forest School, popping their home-made pinatas with the help of some Sixth Formers.

As always we have been very busy in Nursery. The end of term has been full of colourful activities such as our Singalong and our Sports events. We also said ‘Goodbye’ to our Painted Lady butterflies, releasing them into the warm sunshine last Friday. The children were keen to see if any had arrived in their gardens. This week we have enjoyed the paddling-pool in our garden and lots of children have had fun splashing each other as they cooled down! We will have our final visit to Forest School as Nursery children on Monday, and then on Wednesday all the children in both Nursery and Pre-Nursery will have an end of term party together, before the summer holidays begin. Holiday Fun sessions start on Thursday July 12th and run throughout the school holidays. There are still spaces available most days if you are interested.

Under 11 Cricket News The Under 11 cricket side has had a busy couple of weeks. They managed to win the prestigious Tonbridge 6’s Festival for the first time in our school’s history, came runners-up in the South of England 8 a-side Regional Festival, and won the Surrey Cup in a tense and thrilling match against King’s Wimbledon. Last Saturday, their victory against Thomas’s Clapham gave them their thirteenth win of the term. This sets a new School Record for the most wins in a season. Mr Phillips

Skip it! On Tuesday, all the children from Lower Prep to Form 1 were taught a variety of skipping skills and the day finished with a display of some of our most talented skippers. We now have some brand new ‘speed ropes’ for use at playtime and the children are having fun improving their skipping.
