Bright Stars children listening intently to a story in Book Week
Dear Parents Congratulations to our ski squads on their outstanding performances in both the County and National Competitions. This is a tremendous tribute to the talent and commitment of the pupils involved as well as the support of the staff. Our U9 Football Team did very well in their tournament last week and enjoyed success against strong opposition. As ever, the Book Fair has been extremely popular this year and I am very grateful to Mrs Trumble for all her hard work in organising it so successfully. Next week we shall be celebrating our Harvest Mass on Wednesday and on Thursday we shall enjoy a festival of “in-house entertainment with Action Day. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

Dear Parents, We are very grateful to parents of children in Upper Prep and Form 1 who give their time each Thursday morning to listen to children read. We value your support and hope you enjoy this special time too. On Wednesday we held our first Music Assembly of the academic year and it was an absolute delight to listen to performances from Thomas and Lucia on the violin, Joe, Noah, George and Jackson on the piano and Sam on the French horn. For some children it was the first time they had performed in front of an audience and they all did exceptionally well. Special thanks to Miss Fourie for arranging the Music Assembly. With Autumn upon us the children throughout the Junior Department are really enjoying their Forest School Visits. Children in Middle Prep were learning about their sense of smell this week by creating potions using different herbs. By the look of it some smelt better than others! Each week we enjoy celebrating the children’s achievements, particularly with the presentation of Golden Awards, recognition of Marvellous Merits (children with the most merits in the class) and the presentation of the House Cup to the House with the highest merit total. Each Friday the award winners are posted on the Parent Portal on the school website. We are very much looking forward to welcoming grandparents to our Grandparents Assembly on Friday morning and those grandparents with grandchildren in Bright Stars are welcome there after the assembly. Next week we are celebrating Harvest and we look forward to receiving your gifts in the Auditorium at drop-off on Monday morning. Kind Regards Mrs Fiona Nicholson

This week Pre-Nursery children have enjoyed traditional stories. They made collages of the 3 bears’ bowls of porridge, and developed their fine motor skills spreading bread with chocolate spread and decorating with fruit pieces to represent a bear face. Outside they enjoyed the windy weather on the field. They flew a kite and ran with streamers catching the breeze! Nursery children have been hearing the story of ‘The Enormous Turnip’ and making toast, not only as a means of hearing the initial sound ‘t’ but also as part of our focus on Harvest. We are very much looking forward to welcoming grandparents into Bright Stars on Friday morning and to celebrating Harvest with the children next week.

The 50 Hour Cranmore Musicathon finishes in style! My congratulations to all the pupils from Form 1 and above who contributed to the 50 Hour Musicathon. I was very impressed by the pupils’ dedication and commitment throughout this event. These keen musicians kept the music going non-stop for eight and a quarter hours each day and it was a privilege to hear ex-Cranmore pupil, William Ball, play his oboe so brilliantly to round off the event. The money which was donated will be given to the charity Make Some Noise. This charity provides opportunities to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people through the use of music. Book Week and Book Fair
There was great excitement in the library corridor last week when the Book Fair arrived and children eagerly gathered around discussing their choices. We had an enjoyable week of activities and competitions throughout the school, ranging from speed-dating with books to inventing a new sweet for Charlie’s Chocolate Factory. The most popular competition was ‘Guess who’s coming to dinner’, which was set up in Reception with a table laden with picnic basket, honey and other favourite foods of book characters. The Book Fair was as busy as ever, taking over £2,300 which means more than £1,200 worth of books for the libraries and classrooms. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm for reading and my thanks go to all the families who support their children in their love of books.

Ski Teams at the Nationals
A huge well done to the U12 and U14 Ski teams who raced at the Nationals in Norwich and secured a silver at U12 and bronze at U14. A fantastic achievement! A Wilkinson

Surrey Ski Championships Cranmore took 6 teams to the Surrey Ski Championships, including for the first time a team in the mixed U9s. With the weather a little on the damp side, it made for a very fast course and there were a large number of ski outs, though to the credit of all the Cranmore skiers nobody missed a gate all day. After some exciting racing and some delays for lift breakdowns, Cranmore walked away with Gold at U14 and U9 boys, a great Gold for the first ever mixed team at U9 and Silver for U11. Huge thanks to all the parents who helped out all day and for their constant encouragement throughout. M Mellstrom
